PostThu Apr 24, 2003 3:24 pm    How old is guinan?

I saw Star Trek: Generations again (thats like the 50th time ive seen it ) and I noticed something. How old is Guinan? I dont quite remember the date on the bottle, it was something like, 2263. So, lets assume that I happen to be right, and that 2263 is the time period. That means the Borg destroyed their homeworld at this date (which doesn't quite end all of the doubts I've read about, like, Captain Picard created the Borg race through a time parradox, but still).

And we know that Guinan had visited Earth even before that (Episode Reference: TNG/Time's Arrow, Pts 1 & 2). And TNG takes place in the 24th century, so wouldn't that make her, at the least, 600 years old?

The sick man in Time's Arrow said "Help out a 49'er. Which makes it any time beyond 1849. Lets just go with 1850. What is the date through which TNG takes place, i know its in the 24th century, but thats a wide margin.

Not Whoopi Goldberg, Guinan. The El Aurian, the loveable bartender, the counselor's counselor.

Well I have heard that she is between 300 - 400 years old, and lives for 800 years. TNG takes place from 2363-2370.

the only thing we know is she is at least 500, though i imagine not too much older. If you remember in the episode "Time's Arrow", Guinan greets Data with, "did my parents send you". This making an implication that perhaps Guinan is somewhat young to be worrying about her parents sending someone to see her.

I'm not sure if I said this before, but the character Guinan was a big mistake for the Star Trek franchise.

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (always have that handy), Guinan was probably born sometime in the 19th century. That would make her somewhere around/over 500 years old.

Why do you say that? I really liked her. I thought she added a nice touch to the ship and the show. She reminded the audience that you didn't have to be an action hero to really influence the course of history.

I liked Guinan, too and I was sad that she only appeared for a short time in Nemesis...

Yep^^^Or possibly older. Because she was alive when Mark Twain was, but she could also have already have been REALLY old then as well, so we really don't know. But we do know that she is about that old.
