PostThu May 05, 2005 7:30 pm    Abortion: Right or Wrong?

So, what gives a woman the right to murder a life? Is an abortion right? Is it justified? Under what circumstances is it justified?
Share your opinions here!

I say NO, except under CERTAIN RARE circumstances.

Have we not been over this before?

Sidenote: Your polls are very biased in their wording, RM.

If you don't want to have a baby, the simple matter is not to have sex. If you get pregnant, I think that it is not your choice to let it live or let it die; it is your right to make sure that it has a chance. Weather you place it up for adoption or not is your decision and only that.

Doesnt matter, It is still a live form and it deserves a right to live. It would be Murder to do anything other than letting it develop to the best of your abilities. What if you were that child? Woudl you want to live or die?

Why did you put both these options? They're like the same thing.

I choose those two.

Hell No!!!!! I am against abortions. Even if a woman got raped shouldn't get an abortion. Use common sense and give the baby up for adoption instead of killing. NO alot pf people who can not have a baby and wants them.

I allow for more choices.

Well, the latter's like, other than right to choose. The former's like rape, incest, or chance of death. I shouldn't have put etc.

Because it's a LIFE. Although I DO believe in exceptions for rape or chance of death.

It is not the baby's fault. The baby should not pay the price of the sins of the baby's father.

^ If the woman got an abortion before 3 weeks... then it is not considered a baby, now is it?

edit: And the woman should pay the price for the babies father either.

Actually, I see those two options as different. I chose occasionally, under certain circumstances.

I had an abortion for medical reasons mainly (although social issues and my mental health came into my decision, the medical issues were the main ones). I was not raped, and it wasn't incest. However, continuing the pregnancy would have put both myself and the baby at risk, and would also mean I would be unable to parent the daughter I already had (I did think about abortion then, but decided I couldn't do it).

Since I have been pregnant twice, I have changed my opinions on abortion. I do not agree with abortion after around 8 weeks unless it is going to harm the health of the mother or the baby, or in cases of rape (it can take longer than 8 weeks to realise you're pregnant). Before 8 weeks, I feel it should be basically the mothers decision, but it is no way an easy option. The family situation should also be taken into account, but it shouldn't be the overriding factor. As for abortions after 12 weeks, unless there is something very seriously wrong with the baby or the mothers life is at stake, I feel abortion shouldn't be used at all.

In real life, I am in a way glad I had an abortion. This does not mean that I do not have feelings about it, and I wish that I hadn't had to. People who I speak to about it tend to point out to me that it wouldn't have been fair to Samantha for me to have continued the pregnancy, for although I wish her to have siblings, depriving a child, especially at her age, of a mother for at least a year, and probably longer (for that is how long I wouldn't have been able to take care of her, and probably have spent in hospital) just wasn't right. I love Samantha completely, and it's killing me now that I can't just pick her up and hug her, but at least I can get on my knees and cuddle her, I can talk to her, comfort her when she falls over (which is often), sing to her and give her kisses. I had to have emergency surgery a week ago. Luckily, I'll be fully recovered in 3 months time, and I can do some things already. If I'd had been pregnant it would have been a completely different story.

I believe it's a woman's body and she has every right to have an abortion. Women have the right to use contraception (Though certain pharmacists are making even THAT a problem) and condoms as well.

In the case of Rape, incest or Medical probelms the mother should have an abortion no matter how many weeks.

Why should the woman have to deal with something concieved through Violence or disgusting practices?

Because it is murder. Simple as that. She can give the baby up to parents that want the baby. Labor pains big deal I had them. That's life. women shouldn't be big babies not to face it.

^ are you really being serious right now?? Labor pains? Big deal? You WANTED your kid. You WANTED to put up going into labor. Did these women who are raped WANT it? Did they WANT to get pregnant?
Thank you.

I want a baby when I get married. If I get pregnant from being raped there is no way in hell I'm going to want to have a baby and have part of that man inside me.

And it's not always a case of wanting the baby. I did want mine really, but the cost would have been too great to keep it. If it had made it to full term without killing either of us, then I would have kept it, no questions there. Labour pains aren't what I'm worried about- compared to the pain I've been in recently, they're nothing. It was more a question of would we survive? If someone has been raped, should they have to live with the reminder of what happened everyday just because it made them pregnant? It wouldn't be fair on either the mother or the child.

You feel this strongly and are a...CATHOLIC? Wow. So, yeah, killing a life because it's the woman's choice. Oh, yeah, that's a good idea! Wow, so who gives a person the right to MURDER? Ridiculous.
