The basic idea, is that all nation states give up their sovreignity to a world power. One world government controls the affairs of every state, and then presidents and prime ministers become representitives in the world government system. Sort of like the UN.

Problem is, each country would have to give up sovreignity, and listen to someone else. No one is entirely willing to do that. And also, this world government would have to have an army to enforce its decisions. Otherwise, people wouldnt care. The UN only relies on the donations of men from countries...

I like the idea of a world government, however I don't think that any country is ready for it. Especially with the turmoil of the Middle East and Asia right now, but indeed you'd be hard-pressed to find the people of a nation, or its leaders, want to give up their carefully hoarded power.

I think we're increasingly headed to a world government-like setting because the concept of small nations is starting to get silly (at least from my viewpoint). Nations are just these lines on a map, a bunch of people in the same location who, because they call themselves a 'nation', can distance themselves economically and politically from the people next door.

However, a world government might be difficult for us to fathom at this point: we're used to having governments that are closer to us. The instigators of a pan-democracy would need to ensure that the people feel as if the government is still very close to them and that it is ready to meet their needs, when they need it.

Perhaps the first step would to have a world government that oversees international affairs, but allow nations to continue managing their domestic affairs. I have no clue if this would work, however.

We'll need to build in steps, and have lots of patience if we ever want a world government. Keep in mind that the Trek world government was formed because the governments of today were all destroyed or badly hurt by World War III, so after the Vulcans came around, whatever people were left decided to form one government to deal with all those aliens out there.

I believe that Iraq and Afghanistan would be willing to do a world government, considering theyve given up their sovreignity now anyways.

I think a World government now would start a Civil war everywhere on the globe... Like a CWW (civil world war).

Its the currency that keeps us from having 1 single government. It wouldn't work.

It would be the very besterest of besterests, but it wouldn't work. See other people's posts for elaboration on 'why'.

One World Order, end times...heh. Going to be heck when it happens, but if I didn't know that already, I might agree if and when the world was ready. Which it isn't, and won't be... ::shrugs::

Everyone would indeed still conflict, disagree, threaten, etc. A world government simply isnt possible at this time. But I have hope for the future.

That's not true, and you know it.
Either way, a one world government, although it would be cool, would be HORRIBLE. I would not support it.

No it wouldn't. It would fail miserably and has way too many problems with it.

I don't understand how though. Who would be its leader? Would it be a council of World Leaders/Representatives? One man/woman elected every few years?

That was my intention with posting this topic. To discuss possibilities.

I think a ruling body would be best, but someone would have to be elected. Maybe an electoral college system, throught the world. With countries voting in precincts. That would be crazy.

There are many problems. But it wouldnt be a world government, without the entire world. If other people disbanded from it, it would be them versus the world in a war or something. I imagine the US would go invade them or something.

i would give up my queen and new King in an instant. Only bad things can come from a Royal family once they have lost all power and purpose and in Holland they have certainly shown they have lost all power and purpose.

I don't want us to have to give up our sovereignty, pay high taxes, and bow to the will of countries like France.

In other words, you want to keep the right to invade other countries, even when others object? Is that what you mean?
