PostWed Dec 08, 2004 2:26 am    What does Christmas mean today? Is it too commercial?

Christmas is not just the day to celebrate the birth of Chirst, it is the day to celebrate love, giving, kindness and compassion. It's a day for families to come together, and enjoy eachother. It's a day for kids to get the toy they want, and parents to get the gift of watching their kid's eyes light up, when they see that new doll, action figure, or video game come out from under the wrapper. It's a months worth of anticipation, preparation, shopping, and fun all boiled down into one grand moment of merth.

Christmas may have changed throughout time, and some say it's lost its focus, but what it all comes down to is God's gift to all of us, happiness. Chirstmas is simply a time of joy and happiness, loving and giving, fun and play.

Being grown up now, I still like the stores that dress themselves up for big sales, they put out the adds, put up the lights, and live for the attention, and sales, they get. The commercialization of Chirstmas is a gift to us all. Without the commercials, the jingles, the lights, and the fun, it really would be kind of dull. And if just one kid is awed by the lights on a store at Christmas, and if just one parent is awed by their kids reaction to the lights, and if just one family has a good memory to cherish, it makes it all a bit better, and it makes it all worth while.

That is what Chirstmas is about. God's gift of joy to us all, even if it's changed its way of coming to us.

I celebrate it cause birth of Jesus. That what I am teaching my kids. They should not have to believe in santa clause that is not real. Well they do believe in SAnta but I am telling them the truth when they can understand the true meaning of christmas.
But some people will say it is too commercialize. And the world does get too carried away. I just want to visit family and dread of bringing too much toys that my kids does not need cause they got a room full.
Grandparents take Christmas to the extreme though.

Christmas still has the same meaning as it did last year, and the year before that. REMEMBER! This year is no different than any other, believe me.

Christmas is fun, but it has been way to commercialized. Anyway, I celebrate it because I think it's fun, not for Jesus. I could just name it something else than CHRISTmas, if that makes you all happier.

^I don't celebrate chrstmas cause jesus was born eihter.
I do it cause it's a tradition and fun... sometimes. And I do like to buy stuff for others... I don't really mind that it's been commercialized... buying stuff is what christmas is all about really
Oh and beeing with the ones you love...

... but mostly because it's tradition...

I agree with the commie. Xmas is way too commercial. It ruins the spirit of the season. You are told you are a bad person if you dont buy expensive gifts from classy shops. Its exploitation at its worst.

Yeahyeahyeah... christmas has been commercialized... And that's bad and stuff... and I don't like commercialim and all that... it's evil and everything...
But christmas and buying stuff... it's like... just the way it's supposed to be. I loooove giving gifts to those I love! and wrapping them up really beautiful and lay them under the tree...
...and then shake all that are for me!

I would really miss all that. And I think most of you would to, so stop nagging and either do something about it or... you know. :|

I hate it when they say you have to spend money in order to bring joy.

Geez, where the hell do ya'll live, Pottersville? Just because society is saying that everyone needs to buy expemsive gifts doesn't mean you have to. Just because society says that Christmas is only about bringing joy by buying people presents doesn't mean it is. Christmas is only too commercialized if you give in to it, and you really don't have to. If you have the joy of the spirit in your heart, then it will be oobvious enough to others and your joy will spread.

And I do believe telling your children something they have based their childhood on is fales is one of the worst mistakes a parent can make. Kids find out on their own their own interpretations of Santa. Do you really want to force them out of childhood that quilcky by telling something they've believed in for their whole, short lives is a lie?

I believe in St Nicolas, whom Santa Claus is based on.

*Pics coming soon of Sammie's first visit to see Father Christmas*

I celebrate Christmas mainly because of tradition, although I also like to remember it's true meaning. I'm going to tell Sammie about the birth of Jesus, but allow her to make her own mind up about both that and Santa when she's old enough.

Triam Paris, I don't think you understood what I said. What I really meant to say was and should have said, I think Children should not believe in Santa Clause cause he is not the real reason to celebrate Christmas. Yes, do believe in Santa Clause thanks to Charlie and grandparents. THey went against my wishes to teach them about Santa Clause. I am trying to convince them the truth. I told my oldest son the truth. He understands of course he is 11 now.

That what Ishould have said. Santa aint the reason. Its a lie. Jesus is the truth. But those who dont believe thats ok. Give cause you care anyway.
Now did I put that in a right way now?

He's way cooler than silly Santa, with his golden staff.
