What do y'all think about genetic engineering in humans to make "Perfect humans"?
There's is something called the "Transhumanist movement", where basically, people want to move beyond being human, i.e make themselves immortal, make themselves have super high IQs, change the way they look ect...
I am interested in increasing my IQ through artificial means, but I don't want any genetic engineering, and maybe make my life a little bit longer, and I would like to remove my scaring acne.
Anyway, the best way to stop a movement you think is unholy, or that you just don't like, is to crush while it's small, and build public hatred for it before it has a chance to get it's roots.
Kind of like telling someone you know that someone else is really, really, bad before they meet them, and then they despise that person before they get a chance to know them.

true, it has risks. But we could make them have a weakness that only the creators know about. and they tell the heir to the weakness what happens if they die.

Well Im 100% against the idea. Many people who are very religious and believe in God would feel the same. God made Human in the vision of himself. If we were to Edit our genetic code by any means you would be destroying Gods master piece. If you start to work on Humans like that you would break almost every moral law, same goes for abortion but thats another story.

I agree but that will never happen no matter what we do. Humanity has a nature to want more than what they can have. Its in out nature to improve ourselves but when is too far? Genetic engineering is where I cross the line, God made up one way, and we should not try to argue with that. Scientists want to try to better the life standards of humans but making Super Humans? What happens if some goes wrong and A person dies because of it? Even if someone commits there life to such a thing its just wrong on my standards. The world will never change, it 50 some years if Genetic Engineering hasnt taken place yet there will still be talks of it After all we did mange to make it into outer space.

I can't say I see anything wrong with genetic engineering to a certain degree. If you can change things like getting rid of hereditary diseases, why not, or adding something that might prevent certain diseases.

And that Aaron is why genetic engineering is still being worked on as we speak. The very same thing could be said about Abortion (Killing others to cures diseases) or cloning (Making spare humans just for parts). Genetic engineering is no different, what would be the repercussions of this? No one knows!

But if you're making super humans for you own greed seems to be entirely different than helping people IMHO

You cant argue with that. I see Aarons point of view very clearly, If I had cancer I would do anything to get rid of it Everything other than going against my own beliefs.

I'm not argueing. I'm just saying that I think that using it to helppeople is ok. I don't think its right to make them for defense purposes or whatever.

I dont see anything wrong with it. If it can get rid of diseases go for it. Of course this would only be available to the rich for a long time, so natures way of controlling our growing population (Cancer, AIDS) wont be very much affected.
Make people smarter, make them stronger. Imagine what we could accomplish with a population of Einsteins. We would accomplish things far beyond what you could imagine.
