You see you cant just blame the south because the north had slaves too... YES its true.. dont bs ur way out of it ya yankees.. the fact is almost every country has gone through a time when slavery was allowed. And most countries have slavery outlawed.

And I beleive the Emancipation Proclamation only freed the southern slaves, not the northern ones. I will have to double check that though...

With this post I was referring to the entire nation, not just the South.

And it makes no sense calling em a yankee, if thats what you did, as I'm not even American.

Just end this debate. The Confederacy was wrong and bad, and lost the war. The Union was good and rightous and won the war. There is no point in continuing this.

That's pretty silly. Why even bother coming to WN with that attitude?

You know that technically the Confederacy was being occupied by a foreign force, they had the right to attack the Union. They seceded and after asking for the Union to abondon it's forts in the south, they refused, so technically they were only fighting to defend their land, which the Union army, a "foreign nation's army" refused to leave.

Thank you. Thats what I've been saying all along the South was fighting for States rights... They had the right to fight just as England did when Nazi Germany was invading.

And please don't post here saying that the north was right the south was wrong and tell us to end our debate.
Thanks

it was not a foreign force cause the states were a part of the US.

No, technically they weren't. The Confederate States of America was independent completely from the Union, and thus, not part of the United States of America.

I think that's what I read, at least.

It doesnt matter if the union recognized it or not. There are many nations now that are "independnt" that the USA doesnt recognize.

And the SOUTH had no problem.

OK if you think the world would have been a better place with the South having been brooken up from the USA then so be it. But you are living in a dream world.

Do you think the US after having been broken up -would have come to the aid of Europe in WW1 & WW2?

What if the US had not come to the aid of Europe in either time?

Don't you think we all would be speaking german now? Do you think we would all be spending currency with Hitler's face on it? Sieg Heil? Sperchen zie Deutch?

hah. Just, hah.

Do you really think that Europe would've accepted being conquered by Hitler and the Germans? If so, then I'm sorry to burst your bubble; I don't think we would.

And what's more, the Americans weren't the only ones that fought Hitler back. The Soviet Red Army was on the Eastern side, the British on the West, and in Africa. And then there was the French resistance, and the resistance groups in the Former Yugoslavia, inspired and aided by the Red Army, and more factors.

I don't think it would've been possible for Hitler to conquer the world, as was his plan, with or without American help.

But that's besides the point.

If the Confederacy had won, or remained to be independent, sure, slavery would've been used for a longer time, and America would not be as powerful and influential as it is, possibly.

Still, I stand my ground; neither side of the American Civil War was "right".

OK I am aware of the Red army but had it not been for America and her 16 Million soldiers and sailors who fought in the big one, Hitler would have conquered all. You cant deny that. If you really think Britain would have held back the Germans from 1940 without ANY help from the US you are living in a dreamworld.

Who's the one living in a dream world anyway?

That the Brits could not have held the Germans back, that might true, considering the loans they took from the U.S. But the British are not people who'd just accept being German. There would be such a HUGE resistance.

The Norweigians resisted.

The Yugoslavians resisted, and broke free, on their own.

The Red Army was taking ground even before the invasion of Normandie.

Besides, it wasn't the U.S' intention to fight anyway. They joined the war, because they were attacked at Pearl Harbour.

I will not deny that American troops brought Hitler to an end much faster, and for that I am grateful. But Europe would never accept being Nazi. The Soviet Union wouldn't accept fascists at their doorstep, and none of the conquered nations, like Poland and Czechoslovakia, for instance, would give up without a fight.

World Domination is impossible, my friend. Hitler could never have conquered the World.

Oh, I wouldn't say it's impossible. But the only way to do it is to seize control without letting anyone realize what you're doing.

I think it is more likely that we would be talking Russian than German had the US not assisted in WW2.

They took over East Germany, didnt they? They didnt speak Russian in the D.D.R, so, no. I don't think we'd be speaking Russian.

Besides, once again, people wouldn't accept being Russian, either. It's all the same. Russians, Germans, and even before that, French...People wouldn't accept it.

Hitchhiker: That's actually a very interesting thought, that might very well be in progress right now. You never know.

thanks IIM I been gone a bit but back now...Ok first of all you guys dont know the south very well. There are plenty of people with 6 or more guns in there house so if Hitler tried to take over the CSA we would stand a better chance than the USA. i refer you to http://www.damnedsquirrel.org/texas

and thats just about TEXAS as the Republic of Texas. The rest of the south would just add to the CSA's economy.

I also direct your attention to http://www.damnedsquirrel.org/rebel

My brother is an expert on the American Civil War. I'll let him know and maybe he'll get on here and discuss it. You should see all the books he has on the subject! He's a machine!
