Now that is below the line! Lies! I saw it with my own eyes. The way Spidey acted meant that the Green Goblin was bound to die. We all know Spidey wanted to kill him. Spidey sould be punished.

"Your Honour, this is preposterous. The way Spidey acted was the way a hero should. He only sought to defend himself. He could have finished Osborn off when Osborn fell on the ground. He could have punched his head in, he could have shoved his fist right into his face. But he didn't. Like a true hero, he stood there and listened to Osborn's pleas. Spidey did not want to kill him, he has never wanted to kill anyone. There really should be no question, Your Honour, this case should be thrown out of court and taxpayers money should be saved. I urge you, Your Honour, to send the jury home."

Spidey let his own Uncle die. I thought a hero should save people.

"Your Honour, I tire of this twaddle. We are not here to prosecute Spidey for the death of his Uncle Ben. However, I shall talk about it. Quite simply, Spidey did not INTENTIONALLY let his Uncle Ben die. If he could change it, he would. Spidey was angry when that wrestling promoter tried to cheat him out of money, he was so angry he let that burglar pass. He could not foresee that the robber would kill his Uncle Ben. He can't change the past, he must live with it for the rest of his life.

By the way, Your Honour, 1/1's last statement has revealed Spider-Man's identity. She should be found in contempt of court and fined, even imprisoned."

Hey, I don't even know who Spidey man really is so how can I tell other people who he is?

Cheers mate!

I can't really remember other bits of the film, partly because the evil Spidey man scared me so I had to look away. Anyhoo, I am now gonna press charges of psychological damage Spidey man caused me yrs ago when he landed on my uncles head at Universal Studios. Would a hero really permanently harm a 11 yr old intentially? No but Spiderman did!

"Your Honour, please explain to this woman that she cannot create new charges out of thin air, during this case. Just how many crimes is Spider-Man going to be charged with? Should we set up a permanent bed here in the court for him? Your Honour, this woman, whilst very charming and nice to me, is a disgrace to the legal industry She should be stripped of every bit of power she has.

I rest my case, Your Honour."

Evil? Explain that, my dear.

Did you see the second movie, where he literally risked his life to stop that train? He expended every bit of energy and power to stop that train. Are those the actions of an evil man?

Somehow I have a feeling that Harry will actually become The Hobgoblin, rather than Green Goblin 2, it would be a nice twist. And dear god I want to see Venom in a Spider-Man film!

Harry becoming the Hobgoblin would be a nice twist. But would hardcore fans, who've read almost every issue, accept it?

By the way, Avi Arad is a fan of Venom. As Arad is the head of Marvel Studios, he has some clout. Obviously, the Spider-Man franchise is Raimi's to play with but Arad being a fan of Venom could mean we'll see him on screen one day. And a lot of fans are asking for it.

Venom and Carnage simply belong in a Spider-Man movie. Their origins are intertwined, so not too much screen time would need to be devoted.

Venom's origin would probably require a slight change. As you know, Venom's origin is pretty complicated, tracing it's roots all the way back to the Secret Wars saga where Spidey and the rest of the heroes battled with the villains on some distant planet. There was the whole "alien costume" drama and then Eddie Brock becoming Venom. Too much backstory for a movie but an origin change could get round all that, perhaps giving Venom a more Earthly origin.

Well I was a hardcore reader for several years, and I think it would be great. Honestly I just don't want Harry to become Green Goblin 2 in the film because it would just feel like a villan rehash, I mean we've seen Green Goblin in a Spider-Man film already, let that be that. Potential villans I would like to see in Spider-Man 3 however would be:
Venom
Shocker
Mysterio
Carnage
Kraven (I never liked him much, but it would be interesting)
Hydro-Man
Sandman
And of course, Harry as Hobgoblin. Any of these villans in my opinion could make for an interesting film, paticularly Venom, Shocker, and Sandman (okay, so he's not that interesting of a character, but the special effects would look awesome, same with Hydro-Man).

EDIT: I'd also like to see Black Cat appear.

Good post, Siege.

I too don't want to see a rehash of the first movie. I definitely think Harry should modify his own Goblin suit, a superior version to his fathers. Hobgoblin would be the best option.

Venom & Carnage

Yes, already said how they simply MUST be in a Spider-Man movie.

Quote:
Shocker

Oh yes, he would be good. A costume change would probably be required but Shocker is definitely one of the underrated foes in Spidey's world. Electro would be good too.

Quote:
Mysterio

He could be very interesting. If we don't see him a Spidey movie, I'd at least like to see him in a Daredevil movie as he and DD have clashed over the years.

Quote:
Kraven

One of my favourites. I have a 70's issue where Kraven hunted The Vulture and Spider-Man was caught in the middle. Kraven would be a good choice, it'd be like a Predator-style movie.

Quote:
Hydro-Man

Never a big fan of him but that's just me.

Quote:
Sandman

Oh yes, a CGI Sandman would look excellent. They could really work some CGI wonders with him.

Yes, the gorgeous Black Cat. Spidey has so many great females in his world like Felicia Hardy, Gwen Stacey, Betty Brant and Mary Jane. Sadly, I think they'll only use Mary Jane in the movies.

My choice for a villain would be The Scorpion. I think he'd look good and give Spidey a run for his money. Spidey also clashed with Dr. Doom on many occasions but maybe a Spidey/Dr. Doom encounter wouldn't work in a Sam Raimi movie. Besides, Doom is going to be in the Fantastic Four movie and that makes 20th Century Fox the owners of the character, as far as movie rights go.

Yeah I forgot all about The Scorpion, he's a bit generic, but he'd be a decent character in a film. And if they did his tail with CGI him and Spidey could have some awesome battle scenes. Oh what you said about Mary Jane only being used in the movies... Kirsten Dunst has said that she will only appear in Spider-Man 3, and not any subsequent Spidey films. This can be great, because even though Raimi has said he would like to wrap the films up as a trilogy, Avi Arad has stated that both Marvel and Sony Pictures will go as high as five films, don't ask me for a link because I read it on comics2film like a year ago lol. Anyway, Her departure will leave room for a lead female in the film, and I couldn't think of a better replacement than Felicia Hardy/Black Cat.

Agreed, he is pretty generic. I just think his suit would look good.

Wasn't aware of that. Thank you for the info. As much as I like Dunst, her leaving would open up opportunities for a new love interest.

Again, thanks for the info. I must have missed that because I check http://www.superherohype.com every day.

Raimi may only want a trilogy but Avi Arad is the guy who will have final say. I guess Raimi probably would only do three films because I'm sure they are tiring to direct. There's no reason another director couldn't carry on the great work.

My only concern is Tobey Maguire. Spider-Man 3 is set for a 2007 release, Tobey will be 32 when he appears in that. I'm not being ageist (he's only two years older than me) but the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man is eternally youthful (in the comic books at least). No actor, no person can beat Father Time. If they're going to make five films, they need to do them before Maguire hits the big 40.

I'm partial to Gwen Stacey and Betty Brant but if I had to choose, I would go with Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Her character would fit right in with the tone of the movies. And I can think of some good actresses to play her.

I agree with you about Toby's age, I mean I don't really want these movies to become like the Batman franchise, with a different actor every film, because as with Batman, people will always compare the subsequent actors to Toby Maguire, and nobody will be completely satisfied. The movies have done a good job so far staying fairly accurate to the comic books, but since Kirsten Dunst is leaving, we can't really have Peter and MJ married, as they have been in the comics for years. Either that, or they'll marry in the third film, or get together, whatever, and she'll die. Her death could actually set up Venom for the fourth film, because the anger he'll feel over it (if she met her end by the hands of a super villan, anyway) could be a good explanation in Spider-Man 4 as to why the symbiote will be drawn to Peter. I'm kinda getting sidetracked here, but Spider-Man was a character I loved growing up reading comics, I'm actually thinking of getting back into comics next year and start with Spider-Man, probably the Marvel Knights series that began last summer.

I keep up with Spider-Man comics. I've been reading them since about the age of 5!

So many great things over the years such as the Secret Wars saga, Spidey gaining cosmic powers, the story "Maximum Carnage" and so much more. Wasn't too keen on the Clone Saga but it had it's moments.

Siege, do you remember the stories from a few years ago where Norman Osborn returned from the 'dead' and also the ones where Spidey gave up his identity and started masquerading as 'new' heroes like The Hornet. They were great, great stories.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Howard Mackie's writing but J. Michael Straczynski's writing is top-notch as far as I'm concerned.

Identity Crisis! Yes, I remember those, just after the Spider-Hunt crossover. I sold most of my comic collection years ago, but I still have the issues of Peter Parker: Spider-Man where Peter became Dusk. Sensation Spider-Man's The Hornet stories were rather humourous, I remember this villan (can't remember his name) breaking into this building, and talking to his weapon, or something. After The Hornet stops him, Hornet is questioned by the press, someone asks "where are you from?" And Peter says something like "From... Erm, I'm from Charlotte!", classic I honestly enjoyed Howard Mackie's stories in the later part of PP: SM, issue #88 (which set up for the Spider-Hunt) in which Joey Z was found dead, was in my opinion a stellar issue. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore, but it was probably one of my favorite Spider-Man issues of all time.

By the way, speaking of Identity Crisis, i remember Marvel turned the four costumes into a super-hero team under the title "Slingers", I read the first four issues, and I remember Dusk ended up being a chick who came back from the dead or something like that, anyway did you ever read that? I quit after issue 4 and never actually found out how this team was formed, if I remember correctly it was something to do with an old, retired hero (Black Marvel I think it was), but I've always wondered all these years what ever became of this team, what was their origin, etc.

On the subject of Spider-Man though, I think the worst thing they ever did was THe Gathering of Five crossover that ended Sensational and Spectacular, and restarted Amazing and Peter Parker, I lost total interest in the Spider-Man books at that point, because it just seemed like a fiasco to me.

On the subject of J. M. Straczynski, did you ever read his Top Cow title Rising Stars? I remember getting issue #0 from Wizard, then reading the first three issues, but I sort of lost interest in it. It was a decent series from what I remember though.

Identity Crisis, I remember the title now. I was quite sad that Parker went back to being Spider-Man. It was inevitable I know but I kind of got used to Hornet and Dusk.

Don't think I read that. Should check it out.

I agree. I also hated that 'final battle' where Osborn appeared to have beaten Spider-Man, Spidey's mask ripped in full view of people like Jonah Jameson. And, in the most anti-climatic moment ever, the whole thing being a figment of Osborn's imagination. Very anti-climatic.

No, haven't read any Top Cow titles.

I'm really glad you liked Identity Crisis.

By the way, I didn't enjoy the Mary Jane stalker storyline from a few years ago because it had been done before (probably around 1990). In 1990, there was a stalker stalking Mary Jane. Old-time fans like me remember it so to see MJ stalked again was repetititve.

Indentity Crisis was all in good fun, each title took a different approach to it. Sensational took a comedic approach, which isn't a surprise because Sensational was always a light hearted title in my opinion, I was sad to see it end, despite the penciler (Mike Weiringo I think his name was...) having a very cartoony style, I think it suited the lighthearted nature of the book, and the writer (can't remember his name anymore, it's been years) handled Spider-Man very well. I think the title ended long before it's time. Anyway, back to the point, Peter Parker: Spider-Man tried to go with a dark, gloomy look to it, which worked well I think. Amazing, I can't really remember, as I disliked the Richochet (sp?) identity. and finally spectacular tried for a more traditional Superman-esque "pure at heart" superhero tale, which worked fine, but Prodigy wore an orangey-yellow costume, which wasn't very appealing to me. As a matter of fact, in the book I mentioned Slingers, they gave Prodigy a red cape and made him more of an angry anti-hero, but he was the leader of the team.

If you haven't noticed I'm getting sidetracked alot, but that's because I haven't really had an indepth Spider-Man discussion, or even a comics discussion, in a long time, so my old opinions are sort of coming back to me.

And it's good to talk about Spidey. Thanks for the memories about Identity Crisis, it was a good book.

Sorry to ask but how old are you? Don't answer that if you don't wish. I was just wondering when and at what age you first started reading Spidey. I started reading him when I was about 5 in 1979.
