In my History/Social Studies Class, we had a "Current Event" last week that talked about it. In my first post I said that it was in 1954.
But all that aside, once again I will say it:
We [the US] were founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, therefore we must keep the Pledge how we have it now! It shows how spiritual America was and still shall be. Plus, no SPECIFIC RELIGION IS BEING ESTABLISHED THROUGH THIS. Therefore, this is NOT a major Separation of Church and State Issue! However, it does depend on your interpretation of the establishment clause.

In my religious opinion, I agree with that, but other religions have God too...

To be honest, I think people are just being stupid. I'm a Christian, I believe totally in one God, and said the pledge of allegiance as a child. Having said that, I can honestly say that saying the words under God didnt have any effect on me. It never caused me to stop and think about that fact. Maybe it should have though.
It needs to stay. If it does get taken out, maybe I should petition that nothing be mentioned about gay and lesbian lifestyle in school. After all, that is something that I was taught as a child was Biblicly wrong, so that would be forcing me to learn about something I didnt belive in. No matter what, there will always be this type of situation til someone stops it. Today it's the Pledge of Allegiance, what's tomorrow, re-writing the constitution?

Wait, maybe here's a better idea. How about we just burn the flag, tear down all the monuments and grave stones for vets and those who gave thier lives fighting for a cause, and start over?
Dont you all see that this nation was founded because of the fact that we were being forced to believe what European Nations told us to? We fought for our freedom of speech, our freedom to worship the God of our choice, or even choose to worship no one.
Have a little respect for those who willingly gave their lives to give you those choices.

All I can say is: WOW! I agree with all of that, and you make clearly good points. And the Pledge NEVER affected me as a child, so...And maybe it SHOULD have.
And the description of other possibilities aside from "Under God" was spot-on.

That is true, so why can't they say it if they don't understand it? However, their parents should talk to their children about it...

Little children will know what it means if the parent teaches him/her the right way. A parent is responsible for that child in his/her upbringing.

Here, either. To us as kids, it was just words, we never really learned about what we were saying until Civics classes started. We used to have to sing, "My Country 'Tis of Thee", too. (AKA "America")

Well if you want to, you can leave when you are old enough. Until then, you will just have to suffer here in America where the conditions are just terrible .

Your 18. You are also right on the Canadian border. Sell some of your stash, get in your truck, and go.

That's true, but it's still not guaranteed that they'll understand. Just for example, when parents try to explain death to kids at a young age, the kids will nod their heads and know the words that the parents say, but it doesn't mean they understand death.

The saying doesn't bother me, even though I am an atheist. I see it as a formailty, a tradition .... sayings like that our like the Queen of England, a nice little reminder of the past without any real meaning. Then again, I can see why others might be offended. Stuff like this should be put to a referendum not decided by judges and politicians.
