Trek may be dying, but I don't think sci-fi is. Alot of these shows running now, like the reality shows, will only last so long.
The problem w/ sci-fi these days is in a few years it becomes science fact.
There are a couple of more shows out there that are sci-fi, just not as obvious as stuff like Trek, and SG-1.

They should never have done enterprise, at least not like they did, for instance putting the borg in there.

Well problem is, for us non-digital UK viewers you only get 6 channels, and Sky1 (basically fox i spose) is the only channel that plays latest sci-fi stuff, they have Andromeda on right now, which isnt very good. Stargate 7th season and enterprise 3rd season is gonna be on there end of year or next year. Theres nothing else scheduled. When a Sci-fi Series ends they just dump it on there at 3am or something,

I think Channel 4 will probably do that with Enterprise if ratings continue to decline...they did it with Babylon 5...Put it on super early in the morning at about 2am, 3am ish...I remember when the fourth season was showing they'd put it on every Monday night and I used to set my alarm to watch it...I was practically asleep but I didn't know how to set the video recorder up downstairs lol

...and that was on Channel 4 as well. I think that they'll show up to the end of Season 3 at the current 6.00, 6.30 timeslot area but if ratings still havn't improved by then, then I reckon they'll move it out of prime time if the series hasn't been cancelled already....Personally I think Enterprise had a great premise but poor stories or repeated stories from other series have ruined it. I think it's too action orientated with a fire-fight marking the end of practically every episode. I remember during the early DS9 episodes, I used to look forward to the battles because they were novel, something rarely seen in the Trek universe...but now Enterprise seems to feature one every week...

Just my simple thoughts

IMO, they havn't done anything to increase ratings in the long term. Rather than introduce better stories to improve the show, what did they do? Fall back on the Borg, one of the most "done" aliens in Trek-ness. Then they gave T'Pol a sexy catsuit to wear, etc. Whilst these things are gonna look good in the episode they don't do anything for the reputation of the series.

Take Babylon 5 again, (I'm a big fan lol), I started watching because I heard of the quality of the stories via the use of the season arcs, etc and that was something original. Also the "epicness" of the series was excellent and the idea of an "ancient evil", ie. the Shadows, was excellent despite being an unoriginal concept in itself.

Take the Shadow War arc from B5 and the Temporal Cold War from Enterprise. In the "Shadow War", the shadows were never initiall seen. Instead they were just heard of...for example, seemingly innocuous reprts on ISN (The news channel) of jet-black ships being seen in Hyperspace but vanishing without a trace. This mystery of who and what the shadows were was built up throughout the first couple of seasons without any definitive answer being given.

However, in Enterprise, the Temporal Cold War was pretty much explained within the first season (except the explanation of "Future Guy")...no mystery was created, consequentiall no tension has been built up and, in my opinion, not enough episodes have been devoted to the arc. Instead the Temporal Cold War seems to be a thing of some importance but nothing that demands immediate attention; it has no real significance. Only a couple of episodes are devoted to it each season and whilst too many would just ruin it, too few leave the plot feeling shallow.

To me, Enterprise is becoming a clone of just another Trek series; it's not doing anything that's never been done before.

Yes i love babylon 5.

Yeah the build up to the shadow war was remarkably done. Like that pilots recording of one in hyperspace. cant remember his name now.

Your absolutly right, like babylon 5 you need a story in there thats gonna slowly spread into the series thru each season.

B5 had a few evolving storylines, Shadows, President Clark and the assasination. The plots of the Psi Corps and many more.

I think that they've had 14 years of show (DS9 and Voyager combined) not to mention TOS and TNG - they should know how to make a successful series by now lol!

PS. The pilot's name was Keffer (Warren Keffer...I'm not so sure about his first name)

In one of the commentaries, JMS wanted to kill the pilot role because thats just what he didnt want, apparently Warner bro's wanted to have a starring pilot,

I think when they made Enterprise they wanted to try to make a truly unique show, different from TNG, Voyager, etc, but I think they got to unique and different from the other shows. I think we all don't like Enterprise, because it's a bit too different from the other shows that we're used to.

I think Enterprise it too similar to previous Trek series. It's the same thing but just given a different name.

We were led to believe we were getting a revolutionary new series. What we got was the same stuff repackaged. In my opinion.

Take the weapons for example:

Phase Cannons are almost identical to Phasers
Photonic Torpedoes; Photon Torpedoes
Polarised Hull Plating/ Shields

It's all the same but with another name

Um... hello... it's not ending b/c all of us will ransack the studio and force them to make a new series using all of us as characters!!! We'll just apply our RPG characters to the new show.

Something that I really liked was the PC games Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. The idea was that Tuvok trained an 'elite force' of crewmembers whose purpose was to go on those away missions that required expertise in combat, demolitions, alien computer hacking etc. These people were called the 'Hazard Team'. In the second game the Hazard Team transferred over to the Enterprise. Both games were great in that they were not just first person shooters but followed a storyline that unfolded just like episodes of Trek.

I think they should take it away from the Federation for a change. I don't mean put it on a Klingon ship or something...I was thinking more of a smuggler ship or something. See the Federation from the other side, kinda thing.

I just realised how much i say 'something' and 'kinda thing'...if someone catches me saying it again, yell @ me!
