Here's the best picture I can find. Sisko's ship is the one on the left.

That looks more like a soyuz class than a miranda.

That's because the Soyuz class is a Miranda class variant and this is not the best picture....

According to the Star Trek: Encyclopedia, both the USS Saratoga, NCC-1937, seen in Star Trek IV and the USS Saratoga, NCC-31911, seen in "Emisarry" from DS9 are both Miranda class vessles. It's odd, because, as mentioned above, the Sisko Saratoga looks to be the Soyuz class varient that is also mentioned and pictured in the same Encyclopedia. Perhaps it is a misprint.

In addition to that, all the soyuz class ships were retired around 2288, far before the wolf 359 battle. So, if the encyclopedia is misprinted, and it is a soyuz, why the heck is it still in service?

Perhaps it is a Miranda-class but just had the "roll-bar" removed.
As for the Encycloapedia, there are some errors in it. For example, it says that the Cousteau (Captain's Yacht) in Insurrection was destroyed when in actual fact, it was only damaged.

^I have read different. I have seen that apparently the captains yacht was destroyed, data needed to make an emergency transport to the surface, but they deleted this scene from the movie.

OOOOo right, well in that case ignore my post lol - the encylcopaedia mightn't have any errors in.
That would have made a good scene in the film...it would've been good if it had been included on the DVD or something.

True, the soyuz was retired, but Starfleet mobilized allm the ships it could and there were probably a few in spacedock or in a ship graveyar so its likely that they werwe activated to help defend a wolf 359,
P.S. that ship in the pic looks more like a federation police frigate

Wolf 359 is a planetary system where the federation sent a majority of the fleet to defend against the first borg attack. It was a total defeat for the federation, they lost 39 ships of a fleet of 40.

^The Klingons also lost a number of ships there. The Wolf 359 star system is about 10 LY from Sol, if I'm remembering correctly.

yep, it was the seratoga class... the miranda class has the role bar but the seratoga doesn't
i do have one other thing to add... ive found a flaw in that beggining scene on emissary.
The Glalaxy class was the only class that had civillians on board but the seratoga did and that would just never happen especially with the seratoga being such a small ship. I think it should have been thought about in more detail.

the rollbar removal dosent change the class of ship, the rollbar is an optional weapons platform that was attached on, just like the nebula class ships "pod's", the soyuz class ships are totally redesigned and specialized mirandas, which is why they have a new class named after them.
the galaxy class isnt the only class that has civillians on it, most longterm science ships probably had family on them, which was what the saratoga was.
