What I want to know is: Will we ever be able to beam ourselves somewhere. Now that's impossible, right?

I can see transporter technology happening, though not a site-to-site transporter. Possibly a specialized chamber, in which the object is placed (I can't see us transporting humans when we first develop transporter technology)...

I think it'll be possible before most of us think, but, you know, I'm sort of an idealist when it comes to space travel. Transporter technology is more than likely to happen, but site-to-site would be a bit tricky.

I voted yes, i mean, check out how far technology's gone so far. We've gone from throwing rocks and hitting each other with sticks to being able to wipe out all life on the planet, which we will NOT do by the way, (better not) but i still think we'll be able to do that. It is possible because if all these UFO sightings are real then that means other races have been able to do that, who knows where they came from, maybe they're some new type of borg probe?

Very good question.

Now I'm new around here, and no doubt some of you will grow bored with my in depth discussions in the near future, but I find it impossible to answer questions with a simple "yes or no".

First of all we have to look at the course of human evolution so far and then try and project that into the future. Each decade, our technology advances 10 times as much as in the previous decade.

That alone says a great deal about our potential to develope interstellar travel in the near future. Remember, anti-matter is only one form of propulsion. We have made great advances in the field of magnetic propulsion, and could use the gravitational forces of the universe to propel and maneuver a space ship. And there are other technologies being developed as well.

As far as us killing each other off, well, that's just a matter of faith. If you beleive in the bible, then you probably beleive that the world will come to an end in a horrible holocaust, pitting good

against evil.

Now, I beleive in God, but I also beleive that mankind has the capacity to overcome our differences, and that the world can and will come to a peaceful resolution. And yes, that's what it's going to take for us to accomplish this lofty goal.

Now let's touch on transporter technology for a sec. Bringing you up to date, scientists in Germany have successfully transported fruit and paper goods. They tried to transport a pen, but they found the empty casing lying in a pool of ink. The tranporter didn't understand how to put the ink into the pen. But it will, and probably very soon.

Yes, Interstellar travel is in man's future, and probably not as far off as most would think. I predict within the next 50 years, we will build our first FTL vessel, and on a personal note, they BETTER name it the Enterprise.
