How do you think they would bring the crew back together? It would be tough IMHO to do that while making it entertaining.

Well, they don't really need to. In TV, cast changes frequently spell the doom of a show, but somehow they've managed it in the DS9 relaunch books.

If there were a continuation of the show on-screen, I'd actually prefer they base it around those characters. Maybe have one or two returns, like Worf and O'Brien, but there's no need to bring everyone back.

Hmm I sort of Agree with Lindley there, I wouldn't want a complete reunion of ds9 characters, the avatar relaunch has done a good job of bringing back the ds9 crew. I think it would be unpractical if Odo returned, ds9 is of Diplomatic importance and worf could come back say if there are ds9 films as an ambassador. However I just wouldn't see ds9 in the same light if Benjamin Laffayatte Sisko didn't return

So how exactly did the book bring the crew back together?

It Ddin't really bring back the crew, it showed you the space station deep space nine 3 months after WYLB and introduced Ro Laren as Odo's Bajoran Militia Security replacement aswell as a Variety of New character including Commander Elias Vaughn (Sisko's starfleet replacement), Jem'Hadar observer sent by Odo Kitana'klan and also the new Science officer Ensign Thirishar Ch'thane (Shar).

I do recommend you read these books as the do actually make a ds9 relaunch in potential films sound good.

Just remember that none of the re-launch books are canon and "if" a movie was ever made, none of what happened in the Avatar books or Mission: Gamma books will have happened necessarily.

^The majority of fans who've read the relaunch seem to have decided to give it quasi-canon status, much like the Star Wars novels. That's not official, of course, but it'll do.

In any case, one little correction: the Jem'Hadar observer is Taran'atar.

I take all Trek books for what they are: Not truley Canon. "Cloak" establishes the active prescence of section 31 during Kirk's time. "Ashes of Eden" sees the destruction of the E-A. The Avatar Books see Ro back on DS9. All of these plot twists are nice, and I enjoyed reading them, but none of it will make it into the next volume of the Star Trek: Encyclopedia. That's just how it is. There will be no Elias Vaughn mentioned when I read the "V" section.

^What I mean by Quasi-canon is that it creates its own level of canon. The references on the level of the show, like the encyclopedia, are "above" that level----and thus don't include it.

However, a number of books not directly tied to the relaunch have begun referencing it, which means that its pretty much canon as far as future novels are concerned. Kinda like the Star Wars books. See what I mean now?

If the series stayed on longer I think it would be better than Voyager

Yah, it would have been interesting to say none the less. They could have stretched out the dominion war a little but not by much or you are just playing the same thing over and over. Perhaps a borg vs federation thing because of Voyager wussyfying the borg in Endgame.

humm not all books are non-canon "mosaic" and "pathways" are canon granted they are voy.

DS9 was really good but if there is a movie they will find a way to reunite all the crew

^Actually, they were de-canonized after Jeri Taylor left the show. I think there were even a few contradictions against them in one of the last couple seasons.

And here I was hoping that such trollish remarks were something of the past for this forum. Ah, well. Perhaps you would care to elaborate a bit? Its hard to rebut an unsupported statement.

Well at least it was better then the mindless droning of Voyager which killed Q and wussyfied the borg practicly mutilated two of star trek finest characters.

And I mean, why?

There *was* a series. Lasted seven years. Excellent, very entertaining. Why would continuing it have been any different?

Continuing DS9 would be a good idea on screen but I wouldn't really want it to be any different to the books cause I've become used to those as the continuation. There are plenty of potential storylines for DS9, whether it be in the books, or onscreen.

Says you. It wouldn't be a bad idea to continue it and the Relaunch books already give the writers a basic outline as to what's going to happen...i see no concrete evidence to back your claims.
