				| I've played a bit of Wing Commander 3. I think I prefer TIE Fighter and Starfleet Academy.

 No, he was first in the aptly named Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn. However, TIE Fighter marks his first appearance "on screen", in a matter of speaking.
