Mutiny on Flight 613
Passengers refuse to allow holiday jet to take off until two Asian men are thrown off plane

British holidaymakers staged an unprecedented mutiny - refusing to allow their flight to take off until two men they feared were terrorists were forcibly removed.

Asian? I'm gonna take it they meant Asian as in people of Indian, Nepalese, Pakistani, etc descent.

This is ridiculous and racist.

How can you blanketly call it racist? I'm not saying that what they did was necessarily a good thing, but it is possible to find Asian terrorists. Think about Indonesia, for one.

Doesn't this bring up debate over racial profiling? I'm not so sure that racial profiling is wise, but terrorist profiling--compiling a number of factors that have been found to make up a terrorist--should be admissible.

How is it racist? Hhmm...

Since you actually need it broken down. When one race hates another race? That's racism...

Not getting on a plane because of a certain group of people are on it? That is messed up. I didn't say there aren't Asian terrorists, but how would YOU feel if you're of Asian/Middle Eastern/ or Muslim descent? People refuse to go near you because you might be a terrorist. Thats frightening.

I have to agree, the passengers were being racist. They took one look at these people and said "OMG! their terrorist get them out of here!" The point wasn't whether or not if there are Asian terrorist in the area, the point is, people judged these two on skin color. Basicly, their skin color is why caused this...that's racism, "terrorist profiling" or not.

Well, if it was simply because they're Asian, yes, that's racist. But if they had more concern with that, then it wasn't necessarily racist. I guess it's the former, so I guess you're right.

Now, this happened in England, so I can kind of understand why they reacted this way. They almost lost several planes to terrorists recently. So I can understand their fear, but they need to calm the hell down. This could lead to violence.

Exactly, I understand the fear, but they DO need to calm down, not only will ultimatly someone innocent get hurt, but giving into the fear is another way for the terrorist to win.

Isn't that why we call them terrorists? Because they do what they do to instill terror?

Thats very dissapointing. If I was on the plane I would NOT have joined the mutiny and would have called the passengers RACIST who were that, myself.

'Suspicious' pair taken off plane

Two men were taken off a flight bound for Manchester after some passengers became alarmed about what they regarded as suspicious behaviour.

People on the Airbus 320 at Malaga alerted staff and demanded their removal, Monarch Airlines said.

The BBC has it much better than that rag "the daily mail".

The BBC still reports though that they were removed from the plane for "speaking Arabic and acting suspiciously". (LINK TO BBC ARTICLE)

Anyways, I think this whole thing was stupid, we can't simply let passengers decide who rides and who doesn't. It doesn't help security at all to turn over airport procedure to a bunch of people who want to be vigilantes.

I suppose to be honest what you actualy have to think about as that we have just undercovered a major plot to blow up a lot of planes, leaving the UK, not to mention the amount of attempts latly that has been avioded.

I am not saying that the people on the plane were right to do what they did but I totaly understand what the passangers on that flight most have been going through.

I mean I am just glad I am not trying to fly by plane as of all the extra security proticals involved.

but you imaginge getting on a plane, and you hear a few people looking a bit adjetated and speaking a forign toung of corse people are going to be not happy.

I as a person living in the uk, Wish that we'd calm down a bit but at the monment I dont see it happening not after recent events, I see the problem getting worse before it really gets better, I mean come on you have air lines sueing airports thats got to be screwed.

This can be racism or they are really terrorists or they are just some agressive asians. Anyway they brought em out of the plane, if they were true this would mean another disaster was averted, if this was false then it will be another laughter for the press

So would you, if you were on a plane and saw 2 Muslims acting suspicious just dismiss it?

I don't think its racism, its common sense. I would have done the same thing as the passengers is i saw some suspicious Muslims.

yer I read the article that they took them off the plane but we dont here anything else other than after all the passangers were taken off the flight the the luggage scanned, that the two suspect passagers never flue on that flight its a little suspcious really. now eather nothing was found and they just wanted to get that flight off or something was strange and they were held longer going above and beyond some passangers going hey I think these people are a bit strange.

This seems to simply be racist.

Quote:
"It became apparent that the reason that some of the people didn't board the plane was because somebody had overheard the gentlemen in question speaking - I think it was Arabic."

(from the BBC article above)

"I THINK it was Arabic?" What is that? It could have apparently been any language. Not to mention another passenger described it as being "like Chinese whispers."

Did anyone botherto read the article? Funny, the authorities seemed to agree with the passangers too, since these men were NOT allowed back on the plane.

It's rather common to check your watch often if you're waiting for a plane and sitting in a terminal. And wearing jackets? So what. Wasn't that guy the police shot down and killed before acting "suspicious" because he was wearing a jacket? And look where that got them.

Of course the police detained them. Security in the USA would do the same thing if people saw others acting "suspicious."

I think the point has come where people have become too paranoid and being racist like that proves it.

Security measures have improved ten fold last 5 years and I think it would be impossible to smuggle a bomb on board large enough to destroy the plane in mid flight or even cripple the plane.
