PostSun May 21, 2006 8:35 am    Wolverine/Thomas Howlett, from X-Men Immortal NOT mutant.

As everyone probably knows by now, the character Wolverine from X-Men has some pretty peculiar attributes, he can heal from mortal wounds (quite quickly) and due to his unique nature, it is said that there is no way of knowing just how old he is, to quote the movie He could be forty or four-hundred. We also know from sources that in the 1800s his name was Thomas Howlett.

I just googled Thomas Howlett and some cool genealogy came up. there was a real person named Thomas Howlett Born circa 1637 in Ipswich, Massachusetts and Thomas died in Ipswich, Massachusetts, on 22 Dec 1667. Thomas Howlett had two stepchildren, Alice and Sarah(he didnt have children of his own). It almost sounds like a cool Highlander immortal bio, just slap first death before died and presto, Wolverine is older (and younger) than previously thought.

That guy only became 30 years old and died? Doesn't sound very immortal.

According to the Highlander movies and TV shows, you have to die an unnatural premature death to become immortal, after that you are frozen at the age you died at and never grow older.

Yeah, but Wolverine is a Mutant, this has been stated manytimes, his long life comes from his regeneration

The immortals from Highlander regenerate in the exact same way, there unique dormant genes are activated at their first death. And just as it has been said in X-Men, fore Wolverine, the only way to kill them permanently is to remove their heads.

Yes, but the creators said he's a Mutant, that's all that is required for me.

Quote:
A mutant, Wolverine possesses animal-keen senses and reflexes and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound at a rapid rate. The supersoldier program Weapon X bonded the unbreakable metal alloy adamantium to his skeleton, granting him six 12-inch claws that protrude from the backs of his hands. He is also master of hand-to-hand combat.

His wolf-like instincts and his ability to cure diseases(his body litterally creates the cure inside his body) is definitly from being a Mutant. So his Healing rate is mutation as well.

His adamantium skeleton exists only because he can heal himself at such a high rate, or he would have never survived it.

Impossible to decapitate Wolverine. His entire skeleton is made of indestructable metal, including his neck. So if Solitary Poet's theory was right, Wolverine would, in fact, be immortal.

Btw, his name was JAMES Howlett, not Thomas.

... And he's Canadian, .

Um...no. He is not immortal. Burning him, drowning him, blowing him up, or losing a lot of blood. Those four DEFINITLY kill him.

Immortal and invincible are two different things,

He can apparently tolerate a bit of the burning and a bit of the exploding, though. Just depends on the degree.

He has been in several different comic books and was killed in one of them by a sentinal. He took a direct shot and it vapourized all of his flesh instantly, not allowing him to heal. Left his adamantium skeleton, though.

He's not Highlander immortal, his regerneration comes from his Mutation. It is possible to kill him, but eh, leave a few cells that can stay alive long enough to split and regenerat etc... and he'll come back (LIke the head shot in X:2)

Um, he was never killed in X2, just knocked unconcious. His skull is adamantium, too, which is indestructable... The bullet didn't pierce anything but his skin.

The Punisher blew Wolverine to pieces a few years ago, and Wolvie regenerated fully within a few hours.

And, as already mentioned, Wolverine's name is James Howlett.
