ummm....... the woman had a tumor for crying out loud. And it takes a lot less than 30 days in an institution for them to tell if you're genuinely insane or not. It takes them about a week. I've been there enough times to know how it works. I'm not saying what she did was right, but.... if she was mentally unstable... come on.....

Of course it could also be argued that anyone who'd do such a thing could be ruled clinically unstable. No one in their "right mind" is going to harm anyone else. Much less a defenseless infant.

Well, they didn't find Andrea Yates (or at least I think that's her name) insane, so there's clearly a system.

No. You have some crimes driven by a motive or motives, and other crimes driven purely by an induviduals medical condition.

A failed system,she should have been executed too!What a horrible person she is along with any baby or child torturer or/and murderer.

Yes, then it's called temporary insanity. I'm not arguing there was something wrong with the woman, I'm just saying there are too many excuses made for people these days. Blame society, etc...

Well said, in many cases, during the observatoin, the person is convenietnly, no longer insane thus, no punishment for the crime
