I think this belongs in the Voyager section.
Bottom line? She "Evolved" into a higher state and left Voygaer to explore her newfound...abilities.
She returns later on in the episode "Fury".

^ lol!
Yeah, her powers grew beyond where Tuvok and the others could help, and she was becoming a threat to the crew. So she left. In a big cloud of glowiness if I remember correctly.

I think Seven was a much better character. Kes was a Mary Sue and had no depth. And despite the fact that Seven was brought on for *cough* other reasons, she had a very complex and interesting character. Something Kes lacked. A lot.

She left because her powers had grown to a state that she was having problems controlling or understanding them. She left to save the ship and crew.

Season 6, episode "Fury" was the episode she came back. *thinks to self* Ocampa live 9 years, and in the Star trek time line...Yep, in the Star Trek time line she's dead. Unless, she found out how to live 13 years like the Female Caretaker's Ocampa. But, I doubt it.

The character Kes was kicked out of the show for no acceptable reason at all.
Later on the charcter was humiliated and destroyed in an episode called "Fury" because those in charge didn't like that fans of Kes started a letter campaign to have her re-instated as a regular character. So they decided to give the Kes fans a "lesson".
But we won't accept that!
We have our own solutions.
As for the energy-being mumbo-jumbo in "The Gift", the Ocampa life-span that some people see as an excuse to get rid of Kes and the damage made to the character in "Fury", it could easily be written around and changed with some will, skill and imagination.
The Kes in "Fury" was not the real Kes but a being from a mirror universe or Suspiria in disguise because the real Kes would rather sacrifice herself than harm her friends on the ship.
The real Kes is still alive and well and her adventures continues here:http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Park/1964/Kesstories.html

Umm...no...lol...it wasn't a mirror universe Kes...it because if it were, by the time that Tuvok, and Janeway got done explaining to Kes why she left, she wouldn't have been all nice again... And if it was Suspiria in disguise, then again, she wouldn't have been her usual self.

Maybe the mirror Kes pretended to be nice again, or Suspiria pretended to be the pathetic loser we saw at the end of the episode.

It was not a Mirror Universe version of Kes. This has been explained several times why she left, and what fury was all about. IN all truth, the actress wanted out. So... yeah...

Seems like many of you are misinformed.
Jennifer Lien didn't "want out". She was fired because TIIC wanted to add a "sexy babe" and since TIIC were to grredy and stupid to have 10 main characters, one of the main characters had to go. The first choice was obviously Garret Wang (Kim) but when a stupid inside poll in a stupid magazine showed him among the "50 most handsome", then TIIC changed their minds and fired Jennifer Lien instead.
According to reports, Jennifer was sad and upset over the brutal firing and her colleagues were angry and upset too.
The way Jennifer Lien and the character Kes was treated is nothing but a shame and disgust for Star Trek and Paramount.
JupiterPrime wrote: | She gained about 30 pounds |
Jennifer Lien wasn't fired for her weight either. She did gain some weight but that was some years later and were either the result of her being depressed after being fired from Voyager or had something to do with her being pregnant at the time. Today she looks as she did during her years on Voyager.
As for "Fury", since that episode was a deliberate insult from TIIC to the Kes fans who dared to defy TIIC by staging a letter campaign to have Kes re-instated as a main character, we simply don't recognize or accept that episode. The events in "Fury" can simply be written around and there's no evidence anywhere that our theories and suggestions about a "mirror Kes" or Suspiria are wrong. On the contrary, such theories could be perfect for upcoming books and stories about what really happened to Kes.
The Kes fans don't need TIIC:s "canon". We create our own!

Actually, from what I've read she was kind of unhappy on the set. One guess (made by Robert Beltran, I think) was because the writers were having a hard time writing for her.
She was a Mary Sue, and you can only really go so far with that. Her character had no depth (although she could have had a lot if they'd played their cards right at the begining). They really didn't have much else they could do with her.

The tale that Jennifer Lien was unhappy on the set is not true. According to Kate Mulgrew and other sources, Jennifer Lien liked to be in the series and had a good relationship to all the other cast members.
A Mary Sue? No! And Kes did have more depth than many Star Trek characters. As for the writers, they didn't have any problems with coming up with good Kes stories until they were ordered to not being able to come up with stories. If the writers inability to come up with stories about her had been the problem, then they should have been fired for not doing their job and replaced by writers like Greg Cox and Christie Golden who really can write and have no problems to come up with stories about all main characters on Voayger.
Check out the excellent books "The Black Shore" and "Marooned".

*claps*at last someone said something about kes that was right, she was a sue who in the end died to save the ship (enhancing her "speshulness")..Sue trait: Dieing to save people/Havin Special Powers
in some episodes she was a half decent character in others she was just a poor character who had little development

I have to say that the episode where some ruthless planetary dictator takes over her body was pretty interesting to watch - she looked good in a tight body suit prancing around and barking orders and she performed the dual psychotic dilema very well, but I was having a little trouble with the cross sexuality trait of the male inside the female body coming on to other men and of course the female body coming on to the woman who would have been that guys concubine
