IMDb: Serenity (2005)
It opens Friday, September 30th, 2005. Only ONE MORE DAY guys! Go see it. Previewers have given it a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb. That's pretty high for IMDb.
Firefly is still one of my favorite Sci-Fi series even though it was wrongfully shorten by Fox. I will be in a theater watching Serenity tomorrow.

Just saw it.  It was awesome! I have some pretty harsh criticism about a few parts, but overall it was a great movie, by far one of the best cinema experiences I've had in a while.

When I came back, they were getting ready for the dramatic fight scene where Simon and Kaylee would get to be romantic and then River could save the day.
As usually, it's the actors and the characters who drive this movie. I can't complain, the dialogue and the delivery is pure Firefly and great to see. My dad, who has not seen an episode of Firefly, said the movie was "great," and he is very critical of movies. I was surprised by the turnout, but one of the unique things about Firefly is that, even though it's science fiction, it doesn't focus on the science part of the fiction, it focuses on the humanity (similar in the way that the new BSG does), which helps it draw in a much larger audience.
Now I hope they just don't make a sequel. . . . .  |

Very nice review.
I have now seen it twice, and can honestly say that it's better the second time you see it because you notice so much more. First time I was simply awed, second time I was flat out impressed.
Acting: As usual, superb (but I do agree with you on the screentime)
Dialouge: Pure Firefly ("Dear Buddah, I'd like a pony and plastic rocket" -Mal (this one was in the ads:)))
Action: Not too overdone, had a purpouse, and was excellently coordinated.
And yes, I gasped too *sob*
As for a sequel: I do hope they make one. Mostly because they did leave threads hanging, and I don't think Joss Whedon will loose energy or passion for the series. Also, the deal is, if they make $40million (I think) they make a trilogy

I'm worried that a sequel would cheapen the significance of the first movie, especially with the events in this one. If he did decide to make one one, I hope that it is motivated because a story does exist, not just for money.

I haven't seen Serenity yet but I've been watching Firefly on the sci fi channel... its absolutely awesome!!! What idiot cancelled it? Every episode is sheer brilliance... and so damn funny! I'm gonna see Serenity as soon as I can...

Score could have been stronger, for one.
Jewel Staite looked unnaturally skinny in most scenes. I get that she's naturally thin, but I kept getting the impression her head was going to fall right off her shoulders.
Simon didn't feel quite right. Not bad, just a little off.

I thought there was something wrong with the resolution or something, because the entire screen looked a bit squished horizontally.

I thought it was a good movie. I didn't see the point of killing off two of the main cast, though.

Well, if the actual actors don't want to do more than one movie, I can understand it. Otherwise, it just seems like a waste.

Movie was way over rated imo, bassed on a minor tv series. I would rather watch Into the Blue also in theaters, give it 4 weeks this movie will pass into history like many movies of this last summer: Episode 3, Batman Begins, Fantastic 4, XxX: State of the union, Herbie Reloaded, Hitch Hikers guide to the universe and god forbid The Island. I think Hollywood should make better movies. like they did back in the 80's if they don't I see the downfall in their future.

I've seen it and I don't think it's overrated. It's one of the few movies that produced this year that is original, funny, and talented.

No, I haven't but look at the movies that came out this year that I mentioned Hell they expected Episode 3 to be a huge block buster that riviled the Batman movie in 89 and on scale with the first robocop movie in the mid 80's. I see them over hyping this movie and it reminds me of episode 3 and its lack of success. The 89 batman and the first robocop movie were not that acclaimed before they came out and they were huge. I hope I'm making some sense, I see it as this: Over hyping a movie = failure. Little fanfare = success.

Obviously there wasn't enough "hype" on that one.
Don't know if I'll see this yet. Though if Morphy likes it,

Creatively, this movie is definitely a success.
Now, financially? We'll have to wait and see on that. It's a little below where it might be at the moment in terms of box office.
