PostThu Aug 11, 2005 2:26 pm    Was Voyager too cute?

It only touched on darkness a few times then to compensate fo scaring perhaps its 80% timid fanbase it would overload us with Neelix's beaming smiles f cheesiness and Naomi Wilman playing with Flotta - or whatever that stupid things name was - for entire episodes in the holodeck.

They were in a dangerous unexplored Quadrant of the galaxy and they couldn't think of anything more interesting to do than have cutesy irish holidays in the holodeck?

Was Voyager too cute and should it have notched up the darkness and desperation for more than 3 minutes at a time so as to really get a feel of danger not you are my sunshine my only sunshine?

You're right. DS9 is there to be good while Voyager is just lame.
Nice spot!

Yeah, at least DS9's holodeck episodes were entertaining. The Voyager ones were just lame and sometimes creepy, particularly Janeway having a fling with a 24th century Real Doll.

Voyager had a lot of well thought out episodes, and did a few 'family' type episodes. But there were some really great ones such as the Hirogen.
The episode where they turned the crew into training partners killing/injuring them over and over then getting the doc to fix them up.
There were heaps of ground breaking episodes!

Not so. The episode you tout there was not a "good episode" and was yet another cash in on the spate of two parters that were cropping up on Voyager. This episode could have been told in 45 minutes but instead it was strecthed for two, why? - because its easier to stretch for two than to come up with an original thought next week. Yet another chance for the Doctor to drone on about holographic rights even though this was an intensely boring subject thats themes had been done a million times better 10 years previously in Measure of a Man on TNG.

Voyager did have good episodes, that wasn't one of them but it did do good stuff and now comparing it to Enterprise it seems like high-art but the fact remains that it was gutless and souless and missed so many oppotunities because it was scared of taking risks. Nothing "ground breaking" happened on Voyager, not once. Good episodes, yes, but it never pushed the envelope. And the number of bad episodes outweighed the good by a considerable margin.

Voyager was for cool kids, DS9 was for scientific geeks and/or nerds.

Voyager was for retard kids who enjoy sub-standard cuteness and DS9 was for people who like drama, character building, action and a killer story line.

DS9 wipes the floor in everyway with Voyager since it was actually inventive and daring. Voyager isn't worth to lick the dirt of DS9's boots.

Common sense will tell you if you don't like voy then post in the forum that you like instead of trashing voy.

Common sense will actually dictate that if I have an opinion on something to express it, no?

I probably know more about Voyager and Star Trek in general than anyone here so I am expressing my views. You may not like them but here they be.

i don't won't to get involved but voyager was really good and ok i must admit that the holodeck episodes were a bit borning but then i supose it lets you see more of the character and not the job or smatness or oh it is oh so obvious then spends half an hour exlaining wat to do then takes about not even a minute doing it. you have to look past the boringness and look at the what tit is telling you about the character.

Yes, it was too cute. If I had been the captain, we wouldn't have been as moral as voyager was. I would have given technology to the kazon. I would have sacrificed crewmembers to the borg. And when we got back to the Alpha quadrant, I would scare/bribe all my crew into silence.

That'd be like me going to the trouble of finding a "Sesame Street" forum and bashing it... what's the point, it would be a waste of my time, as is your time wasted bashing on here.

No because I am a Star Trek fan. I am expressing my views. Why would I register on a Seasame Street board when I have no vested interest. Tell me that wise guy.

i think season 6 and 7 were the only good seasons of ds9, but they did have good eps here and there before then...

Voyager had more in depth characters and they spent more time developing their characters than any other of the series. I guess they wanted that to be one of their main focuses...

There also were some darker episodes in voyager. Mentalist, in your first post u only mentioned a few episodes were there was lighter stuff. Every series has light episodes like that and episodes purely on the holodeck. That is part of Star Trek. Deep Space Nine had light episodes too...

You can't talk about the whole series when u only are mentioning a few episodes. That is only part of the picture...

just my two carrots worth... : )

and I do believe it's called "cockiness" to say..."I probably know more about Star Trek than anybody else here..." etc... And, yes. You are entitled to your views, but to have nothing good to say about something, is bashing it. Which is what is happening. Granted, you started out with... "was it too cute?" and then it turned into "Why was the episode 'The Game' a 2 hour episode when it could have been told in 1 episode..." and blah blah blah... That's bashing dude.

When I have nothing good to say about something without any reasonable POV its bashing. A negative outlook on something is not bashing. You are closer to bashing me than ahything else. Since you have brought nothing to the discussion.

But then again, as you say, It's just my opinion.

and, oh ya. Voyager could have used a few more dark episodes, but I think the show was still great!

Mentalist you are great entertainment I'll admit that.

One point:- If you think DS9 is waaaay better than Voyager, how come you have zero posts in the DS9 section?

I know, I want to know why too instead of trashing Voyager? You don't have nothing else better to do honestly. Fine have an opinion but making these topics just making this board look bad. And this is a great site. Have some respect.

But with 77 posts in 2 days I reckon he actually has nothing better to do AND he has ulterior motives. We can read you like an open book with big writing and colourful pictures.

Mentalist you sound about 12yrs old and bored,a fan of star trek would join this site or post in the voyager section because they had something positive to say.At least some of the time, all your posts are bashing and criticising, you think you are particularly intelligent by doing this?As I said you sound like a bored adolesent looking to be recognised as intelligent! It isnt working, you are stirring up some chat,so you are good for something!

Reading the last few posts in this topic, accusing Mentalist of continually bashing is looking more and more hypocritical. I'd ask that you all reserve your name-calling and opinions on other posters and concentrate on discussing the topic. If you don't like this particular topic, just leave it alone. Anyone who feels they have anything to add can PM me or another moderator. The next post here should pertain to the subject of this thread and nothing else.
