Star Trek: Ultimate Tribute
pahe 26
...So why, just weeks after it killed Enterprise, did Paramount announce an 11th Trek movie- one that will be written by Trek newbie Erik Jendresen (HBO's Band of Brothers) and won't feature characters from any Trek series? (It reportedly centers around an epic space event the occurs after Enterprise but before the original Star Trek.) [Rick] Berman, who is one of three executive producers attached to the project, said he was surprised the studio went public so quickly. "All we did was sign a writer," he says emphatically. "The film is only is the very early stages of development. It has not been green-lit. It might happen. It might not." |

. . . And it is a stupid idea.
Holding another action Trek movie is a stupid idea, especially if it is detached from the rest of the series. Yes, wars are nice things to see, they are invigorating--the Dominion War was great for DS9. Yet they are not the primary focus on Trek. Writers can get away with wars on television series because they have a chance to focus elsewhere. A 2 or 3 hour movie doesn't have that luxury, if they focus it on the Romulan Wars then it will be about that.
Trek isn't about the wars. Trek is about the journey, dare I say it--the trek. I want more exploration, more self-discovery of the human pysche, not more battles and special effects. I can already see that on other SF shows. Maybe it sells . . . just further proof that Paramount has sold out along with the rest of the entertainment industry.

Eh, yeah.
"Hey, I've got this fabulous idea! Let's, eh, screw Trek up even further!
-Yeah, let's do that! We've destroyed quite a lot with ENT, but not quite all of Trek!
-I know, let's eh, make a movie about the Romulan Wars and... Let's make it all war and stuff and...
-What? Romulans? What's that?"

It doesn't take place in the romulan war. It take place approximately 80 years before kirk.
I'm looking forward to this film as ive posted around various areas of this site. I think it will go well and be excellently done. I think i'll have to see it at least 3 times when it comes out in the cinema

I think a movie without any of the old star trek characters would be horrible?!?!! Why dont they combine all the old characters and make a movie about a war that needs all the experience of the old characters to win.Showing what they are all up to and how and where they are living. The offspring of the established characters?Child prodogys, chips off the old blocks

That will tell you everything you need to know about the new movie.
So know people can STOP going on about how its in the Romulan war and blah blah blah!

Those I perhaps agree with. Perhaps a mini-series would be more appropriate?

Yeah, I just want characters that we know. It just wouldn't be as fun if we didn't see any of the characters that we know and love. The whole reason the movies were successful is because it was off of the series and characters that we're so familiar with. I mean, each show has a few years to develop characters. I don't know, I just want a good movie!
