Is it Necessary to Sacrifice Morals For Power?

Do yall think it is possible for a person to get into a powerful leadership role, such as President of a country, without sacrificing any of their morals or values along the way, and avoid becoming corrupt? I want to be get into politics one day, and everytime I tell anyone at school this, like my teachers or friends, they kind of laugh and ask, if I am a cheater, or a liar. I so no, then they say I either will be, or I won't make it.

So what do yall think? Is it possible for a person to become a senator, or even President without becoming corrupt along the way?

Yes, I do. President Bush has done so, and so did Reagan, and so would I, if I ever ran. Morals are a PART of your campaign and your office.

I think that, in order to achieve a place like that in politics, you may have to step on a few feet, but this can still be done with morals intact. Granted, I'm not a very political person, so I wouldn't know too well, but I think it's possible.

I wouldnt sacrifice my morals. I dont need power. Of course I say this now, and I really cant tell one way or the other until I am in a situation like that, but I would like to think that I wouldnt sacrifice my morals.

I think its possible depending on what kind of power you want there are people who have morals and power like the guy who owns Nintendo. He owns a major company and he hasn't sold out to anyone.

It is extremely difficult to break into the political arena nowadays and stay honest. Immorality is so much the norm in American politics that few people bat an eyelash at it anymore. Dirty politics is the name of the game in today's world, and until the public gets tired of it, I don't think that will change.

It depends on what state you live in. The sales tax is never over 8%, I think. The thing with that is we pay State Tax, Federal Tax, Income Tax, Property Tax and I'm pretty sure there are some others I am not remembering right now... It probably adds up to about the same as you pay... in the end...

But don't quote me on that...

There are many politicians throughout history that hasn't lost their morals. President Bush has strong morals, and he keeps them, I don't agree with him, but still.
Tito of Yugoslavia kept his. Just to mention a few.

It is possible to keep your morals, though it may be hard. Power does corrupt.

I said "slight chance." If your morals aren't the majority's then it might be necessary. But I don't think that you'd have to give up your own.

Power does indeed corrupt. I suppose if you are steadfast in your morality, then you will be able to make it to the top and keep them. Maybe the people that lost their values and principles on their way to the top didn't really want to keep them in the first place...

Yeah that's quite possible. I voted that it is indeed possible to reach political greatness without losing morals. President Bush hasn't lost his morals, and if we can look way back into history for a bit, I'm pretty sure that Caesar Augustus didn't lose his morals either when he was reaching greatness or when he was ruling. I think it was because of his dislike of bad morals that he reached greatness, but don't quote me on that, cause I'm not sure. I'm not to good with my Roman history.
