also it has to have a centre (where the quads. meet) but then whocan say how big they are if they go on forever.

There is nothing outside of space. If you look at the defination of space... which is an area that CAN be occupied by matter. That means there is no limit to space at all. I have wondered about it myself though... I mean you always in star trek see ships going in straight lines and things but you have to realise that they could go up indefinately or down as well. So no I dont believe space can ever end.

A couple things that I have to add to the topic. First who says there is four quadrants, in the star trek series there is three different quadrants mentioned, none of which are necessarly connected (alpha, delta, and gamma(you need a worm hole to get to). There could be any number of quadrants and not all necessarily connected. Second according to The Next Generation space extend to beyond the point of logical measurement. The episode I am mentioning is with the traveler that takes the enterprise D to distance to far to travel home.

Yes it can go on forever and I think it does go on forever. I know its hard to comprehend but I think it does.

Notice the "quad" in "quadrant"? "Quad" is the prefix for "four".
From Dictionary.com:
