There is nothing outside of space. If you look at the defination of space... which is an area that CAN be occupied by matter. That means there is no limit to space at all. I have wondered about it myself though... I mean you always in star trek see ships going in straight lines and things but you have to realise that they could go up indefinately or down as well. So no I dont believe space can ever end.

A couple things that I have to add to the topic. First who says there is four quadrants, in the star trek series there is three different quadrants mentioned, none of which are necessarly connected (alpha, delta, and gamma(you need a worm hole to get to). There could be any number of quadrants and not all necessarily connected. Second according to The Next Generation space extend to beyond the point of logical measurement. The episode I am mentioning is with the traveler that takes the enterprise D to distance to far to travel home.

Notice the "quad" in "quadrant"? "Quad" is the prefix for "four".
From Dictionary.com:
quadrant
\Quad"rant\, n. [L. quadrans, -antis, a fourth part, a fourth of a whole, fr. quattuor four: cf. F. quadrant, cadran. See Four, and cf. Cadrans.] 1. The fourth part; the quarter. [Obs.] --Sir T. Browne.
2. (Geom.) The quarter of a circle, or of the circumference of a circle, an arc of 90[deg], or one subtending a right angle at the center.
3. (Anal. (Geom.) One of the four parts into which a plane is divided by the co["o]rdinate axes. The upper right-hand part is the first quadrant; the upper left-hand part the second; the lower left-hand part the third; and the lower right-hand part the fourth quadrant.
4. An instrument for measuring altitudes, variously constructed and mounted for different specific uses in astronomy, surveying, gunnery, etc., consisting commonly of a graduated arc of 90[deg], with an index or vernier, and either plain or telescopic sights, and usually having a plumb line or spirit level for fixing the vertical or horizontal direction.
