It's not the Americans fault you have no pride in who you are.
And, btw, we DO have shows that make fun of our government. Whether you like it or not, the U.S. IS a free nation. |

okay people. I'm from the good ol' US and I must say, I agree that Americans have butted into every world affair since WWII, and that we are conservative compared to Europe, but would you stop the attacks? It's bad enough that other countries laughed when 9-11 happened. I'm not even from NY and I cried. It was a horrible event that only an American would completely understand. We are a world that cannot advance until we all unite. You people claim to be Trek fans, but you do not even adhere to the most applied principle of it: UNITY.

I think I understood it pretty well. Terrorists from the Middle East are waging a holy war against the people they hate most. America, being the worldwide police force that it is topped their list. <---my opinion only of course.
Obviously being from the UK I wasn't nearly as mentally affected by it, but I don't think not being American means you can't understand why it was done.

Guys and girls that know that I attacked America in the past should know that I do not do that anymore. I discuss it peacefully instead.

As much as it kills me to do so, I have to agree with Los. Peace is the perfect answer, but we are human, and therefore not perfect. Hopefully, though, it is an attainable goal. (peace)

I agree, that is so true! That has happened many times, just not on such a grand scale as World Wars.

I'd like to note that's because we've stepped in far too many times. It's just like the dumbest kid in class asking the smartest kid in class for their homework...if the smartest kid says no, the dumbest kid trash talks the smartest kid.

Also, someone not from the US wouldn't understand the emotional pain as much. It was a blow to our country, and admittedly, our pride.

*insert loud obnoxious buzzer noise here* PLEASE TRY AGAIN.
The US, as one of the wealthiest nations, is constantly asked for money, troops, weapons etc... We demand conditions. Alot of people don't like that. North Korea, you want food and energy? FEED YOUR PEOPLE TOO! See how that works? It's like we're a dog on a leash, as long as we do what we're told, we'll get patted on the head, "Good little Americans". Show some sign that we're thinking for ourselves, and get slapped down.
Palestine wants us to back away and leave Israel alone. Should we? We've pledged to help Israel, but someone else wants us to go now. Not only Palestine, but most of the Arab world. And they've even said that they'd like the US alot better if we did. Hmmm......

The Palestinian struggle is that of a religious one. Because Israel is not Islamic, its naturally ok for them to say "Hey, kick out the Israelis!" Why not? Every other Arab nation did to the Palestinians. If they're so concerned with their well being, why don't places like Saudi Arabia or Syria take them in?

Isn't that so sad? I am THANKFUL we have no royal family. Yeah, let me pay a figurehead 3 million a year for doing nothing.
Medical expenses? Who cares? If we want to debate the pros and cons of Americans and Brits, I'm sure I could come up w/ quite a list. But I won't, because I have several British friends, and they don't have a superiority complex.
Not in the commonwealth...... makes me unhappy..... would you care to tell me how?
Apparently my countries "Decleration of Independence" really bothers you. Was it that your superior forces were WHIPPED by farmers and bankers? If so, GET OVER IT.
As for a stick up my ass...... Oh please...
People like me? You mean ones that think for themselves? As a general rule, I like England. But people like you, who live in the past....... *sigh, it's so sad, really.
AND NEVER ONCE DID I SAY I HAD NO RESPECT FOR OTHER COUNTRIES. I said that it's not my fault if YOU don't have pride in YOUR country. And buddy, IT ISN'T. |
You told me to attack the issue not the person although i seriously dissagree w/ greg87(who has a stick up his ass ) you should follow the rules you set for other people!

Now to Maquis im sorry to of started this ANTI-AMERICAN air on the forum, and im sorry for my offence to you, but that was my thoughts.
Greg |
"Have I got news for you" that show just became screwed up after the Host Angus Deaton was revealed as Excuse My Language a Pervert! and got Fired, ever since they have earned a meager living from making Political jokes out of Home Videos
BTW I thought you were from Oz Greg???
On a different note, I bought this ace Iraqi Most wanted deck of Cards the other Day...anyone else have it? it's pretty cool aside from Comical Ali isn't in the set |
I'm not sure if they were right to fire Deayton. Was the show not making fun of people with intentions supposedly like his own? Did they not make jokes about those sort of things? Yes, it wouldn't have been good for the BBC's reputation or anything, but has anyone noticed that most presenters that get shot off the BBC move to ITV or 5? Like Richard Bacon, he was on Blue Peter (OMG did I really watch that???) and he took drugs, and then he moved to doing Big Breakfast or something.
HIGNFY has been reasonable since he left, anyone see the one with Bruce Forsyth and the "Play Your Iraqui Cards Right"? That was brilliant. As for the real verions, personally I wouldn't buy them, I find that just a little bit sad/disturbing.
Actually, Greg87, it was me who started this off. I tried to be too big for my boots and try to be sarcastic about my view on Americans, and by doing that I ended up with most of the boards on my (and Maquis' ) back.
So, we could shake and make up, maybe? Or is this petty argument going to rage on? Personally I think we're all being a bit silly, there's so much else happening in the world, and all we can do is argue about...nationality. Yes, it's what started lots of wars, but if we can make a start by respecting each other for who they are, maybe we can begin to change the world to do that, too.
P.S I really shouldn't be talking about politics, I'm known as the small girl with the big voice, because I tend to jump into politics etc. with very much the wrong end of the stick, and end up in a sticky mess. Surely you were all like that at the age of 12? No?

Topic title: wanna argue? do it here
Here, people can argue. And intelligent, reasonable flaming is allowed. I of course will delete the obnoxious, irrelevant posting.
Besides, dear, if you've read the topic, you'd know that I'd responded to a direct attack, and that Greg and I had already talked and were cool.

I'd immigrate somewhere else if that every happened.
BTW, the Canada wasn't colonized in the same manner as the US was. They sent the "undesirables" here, and then expected them to obey.... Rather stupid if you ask me, since they were unable to obey back in England.

I thought people moved to the U.S 'cause they thought that they'd have a much better life there and the undesireables were sent to Australia?

Cappy D, Columbus' crew was mostly inmates. Australia, I think, was set up to be like a penal colony.

True, some(or many) settled in North/South America(Mexico, U.S.A etc.), but the real big immigration didnt really start until the end of the 18th century and through the 19th and some of the beginning of the 20th century.
Am I correct? Just checking.
