PostTue Mar 28, 2006 5:56 pm    Holmes Gearing Up for Silent Birth?

IMDB.com wrote:
Mom-to-be Katie Holmes is reportedly gearing up for the silent birth of her first child after Scientologists were spotted carrying signs into her home, reminding her to keep quiet during labor. The Batman Begins actress, 26, is awaiting the arrival of her baby with fiance Tom Cruise any day now at their Beverly Hills, California mansion. Since she began dating Cruise last April, Holmes has abandoned her Catholic beliefs to become a Scientologist like Cruise. Late Scientology creator L. Ron Hubbard urged mothers to keep as quiet as possible during labor so they do not traumatize the child. On Monday, huge placards saying, "Be silent and make all physical movements slow and understandable," were carried into the couple's home, to be displayed around the house to remind Holmes to deal with the extreme pain of childbirth quietly. Last year, Cruise attempted to appease outraged critics of the bizarre birthing method, insisting Holmes can make a little noise. He said, "There have been misinterpretations that the woman can't make any noise, and that's just not true. It's nutty. No, but just calm and quiet. I want Katie to be as comfortable as possible."

I'm sorry, but these people sound like they've lost thier minds to me. I hardly doubt a woman can give a "silent" birth like that. I wonder what it is about scientology that makes people nuts, but I should shut up now, or I could get sued by thier lawyers.... (Lawyers of the church like to sue people alot...)

There is no dang way to keep silent during labor. Unless you are some kind of vulcan and have no emotions. Labor pains hurt like omg!

^ Exactly Deb! This is so weird. Why would it traumatize the child?? Omg! The child is shocked already because it goes from that warm, cosy place, into the tough, cold world! If she would give birth in a bath tub I would understand, but not making any noise as the mother... I would do whatever I wanted at that moment, it's painful, it's weird and it's extraordinary, why not scream?

It is- I did

I had a very strange labour, to the point that I didn't know I was in labour till my waters broke, then I had an epidural as they had to give me some drugs to speed things up as there was blood in the waters. Oh, and then Samantha got stuck and I had to have a cesarean section.

But if it is their beliefs, and it is not hurting anyone or anything, who are we to judge?

Not talking about their beliefs and not judging their beliefs. It is impossible as I said not to say or scream anything. You have to have no emotions. With all due respect, I have three kids not counting the one I lost. So, yeah speaking of a mom with experience..
You can't we don't feel any pain or can't scream cause we do scream and it is impossible not too. Try being there with me during labor with my kids, you will see but it's too late lol..

Wow! That's.. weird.
But, I guess you didn't scream because you had a epidural, right? Cuz that causes painrelief (weird sentence).

I'd imagine Katy would be having no medication at all, it's not mentioned in the article. I think it's hard not to scream then...

It is hard not to scream. Labor is not easy as some people think it is.

The epidural wasn't fully effective until I had the c section. Before then, I did have some pain, but it wasn't enough to make me scream (and gallstone pain is 1000 times worse, and after a few attacks of them I didn't scream either).

Yeah but you the only person I heard of not to scream, so 100% do scream. But it is worth it though, got to admit myself. I had an epidural with Allen, put to sleep with David, and spinal with Anna.

39 hours with Allen in labor. 16 hours with David. I didn't go into labor with Anna cause it was planned c-section.

They can believe in any religion they want and it is their free will. I am no woman and I know I definetly couldn't go without screaming if I was a woman. Deb liked to break my fingers when she was in labor. Plus bursting my ear drums at that. She usually a pretty pain intolerate but labor got to her.

Katie will find out it is not easy.

I had some interest in this religion a few years ago.I wasnt interested in joining it just curious what all the fuss was about.
The idea is to sheild people, adults, children and babies from birth from trauma/noise/yelling/arguements etc.
I personally think its not a great way to live or bring up kids as the whole world is full of violence, noise, stress and trauma.I think life is all about those things and how amazing the human mind grows and learns to be stronger from those experiences!
If a baby or child is brought up in this way they are going to be unprepared for any of lifes up and downs and end up an emotional wreck!
So let the litigation begin,if you cant take any questions or opinions of your beliefs it shouldnt be operating!

I guess I'm saying anyone who would put their wife through that is a little strange. I mean, I don't want to tread on anyone's feet when it comes to Scientology and religion, as I don't claim any given religion... but, I mean, from the articles I read it seemed like Cruise was sort of forcing her to go through with this... and that's just cruel.

In my opinion, I believe their marriage will not last long. Most hollywood star actors marriages end in divorce. I know divorce happens in non hollywood people too but I do see alot of actors divorcing.

I think he realised he was getting older and time was running out.He ditched nicole because they couldnt have kids together, their own anyway!Found a vulnerable young woman to train up into his scientology stuff.Someone to manipulate into having a child with him only months after being with him.
Just so he could fulfil his wish to raise a child from birth following the scientology relgion.
I think he is a self obssesed person and any husband that would expect their wife to not express any pain in a very painful situation.Does not love their wife at all!

IMDB.com wrote:
Travoltas Support Holmes and Cruise Over Silent Birth Plans
Hollywood couple John Travolta and Kelly Preston have raced to fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's support as he and fiancee Katie Holmes plan a controversial silent birth in the coming days. The heavily pregnant actress plans to adhere to strict Scientology rules and give birth without screaming obscenities or making loud noises. But the Travoltas insist the birthing procedure, which has been mocked in the press over the past few months, isn't like people think. The Pulp Fiction star says, "There are unwanted emotions and pain that goes along with any birth." Preston insists the Scientology-friendly labor doesn't forbid the mum-to-be from yelling out in pain: "Screaming is fine... It's the words. If you can avoid saying certain phrases and words... Just try to keep it as quiet as possible. Of course you're going to groan and yell. It hurts. Just keep it to a minimum."
