It didn't make the front page, but I read years ago about burial mounds in North America which dated to 220,000 to 250,000 years old.
Also, I saw a mind-blowing show on cable (don't remember the title or even the station - can anyone help?) which gave what I consider to be undeniable evidence that there was a globally-traveling society which knew the Earth was round well before the latest ice age began, and possibly much older.
