Now the point of this, my friends, is not about her views. She has every right to her views of how America is not worth dying for, that we've been killing people since we first came here, that patriotism disgusts her and that she never would have taught her son such things and would have moved him to Canada were she to know about the war outcome, etc. And, yes, her family is opposed to what she's saying.
But SHE isn't exactly the point. The point is what the MEDIA and these far-left organizations are doing with it. She's playing into the far-left agenda, which the media likes to play on because THEY are left-wing, and the Media just can't get enough of her. They keep covering her to push their left-wing agenda, and yet the counter-protest by Mike Gallagher right by where she's protesting has almost NOT been covered. It's a media story that's really the crux of this, and how the far-left people are really exploiting her. She has a right to her opinions, but it's the media and far-left that are getting rewarded from this.

If you want to be bothered to google it, there was quite an interesting article regarding this situation in yesterdays Boston Sunday Globe.

'I'm So Sorry'
In emotional private meetings with the families of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Bush offers solaceand seeks some of his own.

By Holly Bailey and Evan Thomas
Newsweek
Aug. 22, 2005 issue - The grieving room was arranged like a doctor's office. The families and loved ones of 33 soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan were summoned to a large waiting area at Fort Bragg, N.C. For three hours, they were rotated through five private rooms, where they met with President George W. Bush, accompanied by two Secret Service men and a photographer. Because the walls were thin, the families awaiting their turn could hear the crying inside.

President Bush was wearing "a huge smile," but his eyes were red and he looked drained by the time he got to the last widow, Crystal Owen, a third-grade schoolteacher who had lost her husband in Iraq. "Tell me about Mike," he said immediately. "I don't want my husband's death to be in vain," she told him. The president apologized repeatedly for her husband's death. When Owen began to cry, Bush grabbed her hands. "Don't worry, don't worry," he said, though his choking voice suggested that he had worries of his own. The president and the widow hugged. "It felt like he could have been my dad," Owen recalled to NEWSWEEK. "It was like we were old friends. It almost makes me sad. In a way, I wish he weren't the president, just so I could talk to him all the time."

Bush likes to play the resolute War Leader, and he has never been known for admitting mistakes or regret. But that does not mean that he is free of doubt. For the past three years, Bush has been living in two worldsunwavering and confident in public, but sometimes stricken in private. Bush's meetings with widows like Crystal Owen offer a rare look inside that inner, private world.

Last week, at his ranch in Texas, he took his usual line on Iraq, telling reporters that the United States would not pull out its troops until Iraq was able to defend itself. While he said he "sympathized" with Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, he refused to visit her peace vigil, set up in a tent in a drainage ditch outside the ranch, and sent two of his aides to talk to her instead.

Privately, Bush has met with about 900 family members of some 270 soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. The conversations are closed to the press, and Bush does not like to talk about what goes on in these grieving sessions, though there have been hints. An hour after he met with the families at Fort Bragg in June, he gave a hard-line speech on national TV. When he mentioned the sacrifice of military families, his lips visibly quivered.

All war presidents find ways to deal with the strain of sending soldiers off to die. During the Vietnam War, LBJ used to pray after midnight with Roman Catholic monks. Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, prayed with the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church on the eve of the first gulf war. For George W. Bush, these private audiences with the families of dead soldiers and Marines seem to be an outlet of sorts. (They are perhaps harder for Laura, who sometimes accompanies Bush and looks devastated afterward.) Family members interviewed by NEWSWEEK say they have been taken aback by the president's emotionalism and his sincerity. More complicated is the question of whether Bush's suffering is essentially sympathetic, or whether he is agonizing over the war that he chose to start.

Bush routinely asks to see the families of the fallen when he visits military bases, which he does about 10 times a year. It does not appear that the White House or the military makes any effort to screen out dissenters or embittered families, though some families decline the invitation to meet with Bush. Most families encourage the president to stay the course in Iraq. "To oppose something my husband lost his life for would be a betrayal," says Inge Colton, whose husband, Shane, died in April 2004 when his Apache helicopter was shot down over Baghdad. Bush does, however, hear plenty of complaints. He has been asked about missing medals on the returned uniform of a loved one, about financial assistance for a child going to college and about how soldiers really died when the Pentagon claimed the details were classified.

At her meeting with the president at Fort Hood, Texas, last spring, Colton says she lit into Bush for "stingy" military benefits. Her complaints caught Bush "a little off guard," she recalls. "He tried to argue with me a little bit, but he promised he would have someone look into it." The next day she got a call from White House chief of staff Andrew Card, who said the White House would follow up. "My main goal was to have him look at my son, look him in the eyes and apologize," says Colton. "I wanted him to know, to really understand who he has hurt." She says Bush was "attentive, though not in a fake way," and sometimes at a loss for words. "He didn't try to overcompensate," she says.

The most tellingand movingpicture of Bush grieving with the families of the dead was provided by Rachel Ascione, who met with him last summer. Her older brother, Ron Payne, was a Marine who had been killed in Afghanistan only a few weeks before Ascione was invited to meet with Bush at MacDill Air Force Base, near Tampa, Fla.

Ascione wasn't sure she could restrain herself with the president. She was feeling "raw." "I wanted him to look me in the eye and tell me why my brother was never coming back, and I wanted him to know it was his fault that my heart was broken," she recalls. The president was coming to Florida, a key swing state, in the middle of his re-election campaign. Ascione was worried that her family would be "exploited" by a "phony effort to make good with people in order to get votes."

Ascione and her family were gathered with 18 other families in a large room on the air base. The president entered with some Secret Service agents, a military entourage and a White House photographer. "I'm here for you, and I will take as much time as you need," Bush said. He began moving from family to family. Ascione watched as mothers confronted him: "How could you let this happen? Why is my son gone?" one asked. Ascione couldn't hear his answer, but soon "she began to sob, and he began crying, too. And then he just hugged her tight, and they cried together for what seemed like forever."

Ascione's family was one of the last Bush approached. Ascione still planned to confront him, but Bush disarmed her in an almost uncanny way. Ascione is just over five feet; her late brother was 6 feet 7. "My whole life, he used to put his hand on the top of my head and just hold it there, and it drove me crazy," she says. When Bush saw that she was crying, he leaned over and put his hand on the top of her head and drew her to him. "It was just like my brother used to do," she says, beginning to cry at the memory.

Before Bush left the meeting, he paused in the middle of the room and said to the families, "I will never feel the same level of pain and loss you do. I didn't lose anyone close to me, a member of my family or someone that I love. But I want you to know that I didn't go into this lightly. This was a decision that I struggle with every day."

As he spoke, Ascione could see the grief rising through the president's body. His shoulder slumped and his face turned ashen. He began to cry and his voice choked. He paused, tried to regain his composure and looked around the room. "I am sorry, I'm so sorry," he said.

All I can say is... wow

Wow is right. I think this is an excellent article, surprisingly. This really makes me feel even MORE that Bush shouldn't have to meet with her again.

I have to agree, I amn't for or against the policy Bush has going, but I do believe that he is doing it for reasons that he believes are for the greater good. But that doesn't mean that he's ok with taking them, as he knows it will result in people's deaths. It must be such a hard job.

Allowed to change her opinions on an ISSUE, yes, but radically on a person and her last meeting?
She's no longer a mere protestor. She's a player for the left. As left-wing "The Seattle Post-Intelligence" columnist Robert Jamieson put it, "Trouble is Sheehan is not sincerely interested in meeting Bush for a private, heartfelt chat about her understandable anguish and lingering questions. She wants to make a public splash by allowing critics of the unjustified war in Iraq to use her as a human bazooka against Bush." Exactly.
I quote to you from her blog on Michael Moore's website: "My son died for oil. He died to make your friends, President Bush, richer. He died to expand American imperialism in the Middle East. We're not freer here thanks to your Patriot Act. Iraq is not free. You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop terrorism. I am not paying my taxes for 2004. You killed my son, George Bush, and I don't owe you a penny."
Are you going to sit there and say that it's not far-left stuff? Partnering up with the far-left and saying this? She's accusing the President of being a murderer, etc. She can say what she wants, and she can be described as a radical-left winger.
FYI, she DID flip-flop on Bush. You can flip-flop on an issue and on a politician, but NOT like this. She went from saying in the Vacaville Reporter, "I now know that President Bush is sincere about wanting to help the Iraqis. I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss, and I know he's a man of faith." That's what she said after the meeting, and now she said, "President Bush needs to be tried on war crimes and go to jail." As Bill O'Reilly said, "You don't change your characterization of the man in a meeting."
She can change her mind about the policy, that's fine. It's irrelivent here, however. She had a meeting with the president and said good things about him, and now has turned "180 degrees" on the man. You can change your mind on the policy, but NOT on the man's intent like that--how he's conducted himself.

(And btw, she's getting a divorce with her husband because of this.)

Local protesters support mother's vigil
By Barbara LaBoe
Aug 16, 2005 - 08:20:40 am PDT

Their numbers were small, but a group of anti-war protesters said Monday afternoon their message isn't any less important.

Organizer Dan Smith has protested the war in Iraq numerous times, but he said Monday's event at the west end of the Allen Street bridge was to support Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq. Sheehan is camped outside President Bush's Texas ranch, saying she'll stay until he agrees to talk her about bringing all the troops back home. Her vigil has attracted national attention.

Anti-war protester Greg Lapic holds a sign supporting Cindy Sheehan Wednesday on the Allen Street Bridge. Sheehan's son was killed in Iraq and Lapic thinks President Bush should be compassionate enough to meet with her, despite their differences.

"She's one of the few people who is actually calling Bush's bluff," Smith said. "The Democrats aren't doing it, but she is."

Smith said his fellow peace activists only had about 15 hours' notice, so he wasn't expecting a large turnout. Nationwide, a number of vigils are being held for Sheehan on Wednesday -- including one in Rainier -- but Smith said he didn't want to wait.

"I'll be happy if we get three or four people," he said, unloading protest signs from his van. "Whatever we can do to get the message out."

Three is exactly what he got, as Iva O'Shaunesy, Greg Lapic and Tedine Roos all joined the cause. All said they were motivated by their belief the war is wrong and soldiers are dying needlessly. And, they said, peaceful protest can spark change.

"Ghandi did it. Martin Luther King did it. Lech Walesa did it," Smith said. "It can be done."

The group drew mostly thumbs up by the motorists who acknowledged them, though one angry man screamed something that couldn't be made out.

The four weren't optimistic that Bush would meet with Sheehan, but they said it's still important to continue their protests.

"She's standing up for a lot of people who want reasons (for the war), and there aren't any," Roos said. "And I think the sentiment is shifting."

Rainier's vigil, according to the meetwithcindy.org website, is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of J&R grocery outlet.

Before anyone asks the image was uploaded from my website. You can find the news article at.

I went on the bridge today on my way to the car wash, there were alot of protesters this morning. There have been protesters since the war started but the numbers went down, this is the first I've seen this many in along time. I'm glad there are still people in my town that feels the war is wrong.

My feeling is that ALL should simply STOP protesting the war--period. There is no more point in it. We're there and we have to stay the course.
Protesting now can only HURT our troops.

I have a quick but serious question.

If Cindy Sheehan is a puppet for the left as you people so eloquently put it, Then wasn't Terry Schiavo just a puppet for the right?

Oh, and for all the people who say she is a puppet, Think for a second. She raised her son for 24 years, watched him graduate, watched him become an Eagle scout (a very rare honor), he was an Altar Boy and A youth group leader too. Then she gets the message that her son is dead.

How would you Feel?

Quote:
AN OPEN LETTER TO GEORGE BUSH

November 4, 2004

Dear George,

You dont mind if I call you George do you? When you sent me a letter offering your condolences on the death of my son, Spc. Casey Austin Sheehan, in the illegal and unjust war on Iraq, you called me Cindy, so I naturally assume we are on a first name basis.

George, it has been seven months today since your reckless and wanton foreign policies killed my son, my big boy, my hero, my best-friend: Casey. It has been seven months since your ignorant and arrogant lack of planning for the peace murdered my oldest child. It has been two days since your dishonest campaign stole another electionbut you all were way more subtle this time than in 2000, werent you? You hardly had to get the Supreme Court of the United States involved at all this week.

You feel so proud of yourself for betraying the country again, dont you? You think you are very clever because you pulled the wool over the eyes of some of the people again. You think that you have some mandate from Godthat you can spend your political capital any way that you want. George you dont care or even realize that 56,000,000 plus citizens of this country voted against you and your agenda. Still, you are going to continue your ruthless work of being a divider and not a uniter. George, in 2000 when you stole that election and the Democrats gave up, I gave up too. I had the most ironic thought of my life then: "Oh well, how much damage can he do in four years?" Well, now I know how much you have damaged my family, this country, and this world. If you think I am going to allow you another four years to do even more damage, then you truly are mistaken. I will fight for a true vote count and if that fails, your impeachment. Also, the impeachment of your Vice President. The only thing is, I'm not politically savvy, and I don't have a Karl Rove to plan my strategy, but I do have a big mouth and a righteous cause, which still mean something in this country, I hope.

All of this lying, fooling, and betraying must be hard work George. You really think you know what hard work is?

George, let me tell you what hard work really is.

Hard work is seeing your oldest son, your brave and honorable man-child go off to a war that had, and still has, no basis in reality. Hard work is worrying yourself gray and not being able to sleep for 2 weeks because you dont know if your child is safe.

Hard work is seeing your sons murder on CNN one Sunday evening while youre enjoying the last supper youll ever truly enjoy again.

Hard work is having three military officers come to your house a few hours later to confirm the aforementioned murder of your sonyour first bornyour kind and gentle sweet baby.

Hard work is burying your child 46 days before his 25th birthday. Hard work is holding your other three children as they lower the body of their big baba into the ground. Hard work is not jumping in the grave with him and having the earth cover you both.

But, Dear George, do you know what the hardest work of all is? Trying to digest the fact that the leader of the country that your family has fought for and died for, for generations, lied to you and betrayed your dear boys sense of honor and exploited his courage and exploited his loyalty to his buddies. Hard work is having your country abandon you after they killed your son. Hard work is coming to the realization that your son had his future robbed from him and that you have had your son's future and future grand-children stolen from you. Hard work is knowing that there are so many people in this world that have prospered handsomely from your son's death.

George, I must confess that I and my family worked very HARD to re-defeat you this time, but you refuse to stay defeated. Well, we are watching you very carefully. We are going to do everything in our power to have you impeached for misleading the American people into a disastrous war and for mis-using and abusing your power as Commander-in-Chief. We are going to scream until our last breath to bring the rest of our babies home from this quagmire of a war that you have gotten our country in to: before too many more families learn the true meaning of Hard Work. We know it is going to be an uphill battle, knowing how Republican Congress is, but thanks to you, we know the meaning of Hard Work and were not afraid of hard work at all.

The 56,000,000 plus citizens who voted against you and your agenda have given me a mandate to move forward with my agenda. Also, thanks to you and your careless domestic policies, I am unemployed, so this will be my full-time job. Being your political downfall will be the most noble accomplishment of my life and it will bring justice for my son and 1125 (so far) other brave Americans and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis your lies have killed. By the way, George, how many more innocent Iraqis are your policies going to kill before you convince them that you are better than Saddam? How many more of their cities are you going to level before you consider that they are liberated? If you really had any moral values, or if you were an honorable man at all you would resign. My son was a man who had high moral values and true courage. Humanity lost a bright light on April 04, 2004. I will live the rest of my life missing Casey desperately. Thank you for that, George. Have a nice day.

God Bless America!! We surely need it!

It'd be stupid to say Schaivo wasn't used as a tool. Sadly, 99.9% of all politicians are lacking humanity, that pesky thing.
And I understand that someone can change their mind. I reeeeeally wish I could get a copy of the article in the Boston Sunday Globe, but there is nooooo way I'm going to type it.
She's totally letting herself be used, and it's taking away from her son. Even her husband, (soon to be ex), can't handle this.

Right. She IS being used as a pawn by the left, and it's sad and taking away from her son. She's SOOOO out there now that her husband's divorcing her. Turmoil over the death of your son doesn't make you go to this extreme. You have to allow people to influence you to go from being fond of President Bush to hating him and joining the left on so many other things.
And FYI unfortunately I do have to admit that Terry Shiavo was exploited by some Republicans--and it's unfortunate that they did so.

I heard on the ABC News the BBC broadcasts at 2.15am or so that she was actually getting annoyed about the left using her. Not sure too much about this, as it was really in dept, but could people post more info if they have it?

Who would she blame if her son had died in a peacetime training accident?
Didn't he volunteer?

Having her son killed in combat hardley makes her unique or special.

The Vacaville woman who has been camped outside President Bushs Crawford, Texas, home for more than a week has garnered support from the North Coast -- and more is on the way.

Cindy Sheehan, 48, lost her son Casey Sheehan, 24, April 4, 2004, in Baghdad and has been camped along the road to Bushs ranch asking to meet with the president. Sheehans request, and growing support, is getting increased public attention.

Now, Alison Sterling Nichols, a paralegal from Westhaven, is taking time off work to support Sheehan. Nichols isnt a part of any peace group or organization. She said it was hearing Sheehan talk about her loss and their combined opposition to the war that inspired her to go.

The more I read her story last week, the more my heart ached for her, Nichols said. Its just because I felt like I had to go.

Nichols doesnt have any family in the military, but she is taking her 2-year-old daughter, Camden Jane, with her Wednesday.

I would be honored to meet her, Nichols said of Sheehan. Shes a true patriot and hero. She represents so many families.

Nichols has also heard from other Humboldt County residents whom she didnt know before who are either on their way to Crawford or planning on leaving soon.

She said shes getting a lot of support, like her boss giving her the time off and renting her a car. Other friends are pitching in on her plane ticket.

People who cant go are helping people who are going, Nichols said.

Nichols plans on being back home next Tuesday night.

She isnt the first North Coast resident to assist Sheehan.

According to Gordon Soderberg of the Eureka chapter of Veterans for Peace, Sheehan -- who was at the veterans groups conference in Dallas -- decided to camp outside the Crawford ranch on the spur of the moment.

She had the time, he was on a vacation and she wanted to make a point, Soderberg said Monday. Theres 200 crosses lining the road to his house, it forces him to take helicopters now. It speaks volumes about his character.

Soderbergs group gave Sheehan a ride to Crawford on their bus.

He (Bush) will not see her, Soderberg said. Hes a coward.

Sheehan has been in contact with Veterans for Peace since about a month after her son died.

Soderberg and Patrick Tate of the Willits Veterans for Peace chapter will be on their way back to Crawford on Thursday.

This is local news from my area, but eh... The media attention on this woman is absurd and entirely uncalled for. *sighs* But then, most of what's in the media is absurd, and entirely uncalled for...

I heard on the ABC News the BBC broadcasts at 2.15am or so that she was actually getting annoyed about the left using her. Not sure too much about this, as it was really in dept, but could people post more info if they have it?

Yes, she has in fact stated that she is getting annoyed by the media's continuous reporting of her story. But I have a few things on this:
1. What does she expect? That the liberal media will give up?
2. She wanted it for so long and is getting the media attention she's wanted, so I think she's rather hippocritical there.
3. And she's still posting a blog on Michael Moore's website and working with other far-left people who are using her. She's not getting annoyed about that
4. Maybe she's so far-left now that she is unable to tell that the media is left-wing, so that's why she's annoyed...

And also, yes, the media coverage of this is uncalled for. It's all biased TOWARDS her and against Bush. There's really no value in this story--especially anymore--but of course, if the media gets ahold of something that they could hurt him on, they'll use it. And the article that Exalya just posted proves it, and that's what almost all the media's doing. Only FOX NEWS has given BOTH sides to the argument consistently. Shows how fair and balanced the rest of the media is (I would say 20 to 1 is the ratio.)

Marine's mother: Support the fight
Dyer among the Marines killed in the August 3 bombing in Iraq

Wednesday, August 17, 2005; Posted: 9:19 p.m. EDT (01:19 GMT)

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) -- The mother of a Marine killed in Iraq urged mourners Wednesday not to let their anger and sadness turn them against the U.S. fight in Iraq.

"Honor me in this way," Kathy Dyer said during a memorial service for Lance Cpl. Christopher J. Dyer, 19, of the Cincinnati suburb of Evendale.

At the funeral at Tri-County Baptist Church, Kathy Dyer delivered what she believed would have been her son's own message: "It has been with the greatest pride I have served ... fighting to preserve freedom."

She said he would want mourners to continue supporting the troops in the war against terrorism.

Dyer and eight other Marines from Columbus-based Lima Company were among 14 killed August 3 in the deadliest roadside bombing of U.S. troops in Iraq. The company is part of the Cleveland-based 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, which has been hit hard by attacks that have killed 16 members in recent weeks.

Later Wednesday, vigils were planned across the country in support of Cindy Sheehan, a slain soldier's mother who has been camping outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. She has promised to stay for his monthlong ranch visit unless he meets with her and other grieving families.

At Dyer's funeral about 1,000 mourners were told about the kindness and drive of the college-bound honor student who had a lifelong interest in the military. Relatives said he chose the Marines as a way to serve his country and challenge himself.

"He saw this as just another way to measure himself, another test," said his father, John Dyer. "Chris didn't want to be less than the best at anything."

Janet Hertlein, whose son Michael grew up with Dyer, said Dyer loved the Marines.

"Chris and all those over there are fighting for all of us," Hertlein said.

If you have any will to hear a fantastic monologue on this, check out Rush Limbaugh's monologue on this at http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_081705/content/whose_kids_are_in_iraq.guest.html. It is fantastic, and you can watch the video of him giving it too. Far-left liberals may not want to watch/listen to this, though
Also, check out http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_081705/content/caller_of_the_year_.guest.html, which has the "Caller of the Year"---a mother who's son is in the Marines about Cindy Sheehan. You REALLY should listen to this, if not that. No matter what side you are on, this one you should at least listen to. Seriously, folks. Listen to the mother of an America-loving Marine, who really likes serving the country in the miltary.

I'm watching fox news, right at this miniute, and I am hearing someone say that republicans are "all beating up this woman." and "don't care about the lives of our soldiers."

That was RIGHT NOW.

Funny how liberals criticize Fox without actually ever watching it...

Oh, you're so right. I missed that--I was listening to Rush--but yeah.
As a matter of fact, Rush, at the top of the hour, was reading an article by I forget the newspaper, but it was talking about how the Pew Research Center found out that JUST AS MANY DEMOCRATS AS REPUBLICANS watch FOX. And the channel actually HURT the Republican voter effort in many places. Right, right-wing biased my ass!

And btw, from the end of that first link:
Quote:
RUSH: Paul in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, welcome, nice to have you on the program.

CALLER: Thank you, sir, I appreciate it. Yeah, I just wanted to say, especially after that one caller, I mean I didn't volunteer because the president's daughters were doing something or some senator's son was joining or anything like that, and I didn't join because I was coming from the ghetto and I wanted to get out. You know, I joined because it was a career choice, and I wanted to do it, and I really feel that if her son was here today -- and I understand her grief. I mean, I'm a father as well, but I served in Iraq. I've served in Afghanistan. I've been over there many times, and, you know, I've had friends lost right next to me in battle, and I can understand the grief, but, you know what? At the same time they're doing what they wanted to do. So many of these people are stuck back in the Vietnam days, and the days of the draft, that I used to get e-mail saying, "Boy, I'm sorry that you're over there." I would e-mail back and say, "What do you mean, you're sorry? I put myself here on purpose. This is what I want to do."
