10 and 2?

So... we all learn that we're supposed to drive with both hands on the steering wheel at 2 and 10 o'clock. But really... who wants to follow the rules? Where do you most often find your hands on the steering wheel while you drive? (and if you don't drive yet, don't waste a post saying "I don't drive! But if I did, I would like... totally drive at 2 and 10!!")

I drive 1 of two ways for the majority of the time...

1. Right hand undergrip (palm facing me) at 5 o'clock
2. both hands through the steering wheel with my wrists resting on the thing in the middle where the horn is.

Well i mostly drive with only one hand at about five o clock

I either drive with one hand at 12, or the same hand at 6, on the inside of the wheel. My left hand rarely touches the wheel. I guess technically it's only my wrist that's on the wheel at 12,

I usually drive with my hands at 9 & 3 sort of resting on the area where the middle of the wheel meets the outer circle of the wheel.

I usually do just one hand on the two, or both hands with my wrist resting where the horn is.

depends on who I'm with. If my mom is in the car I'm at 10 and 2, if its my dad its 10 and 2, anyone else I usually have my left hand at 9 and my right knee at 5.

I don't drive a car.... but! when I drive a dodgem, I always have my hands at 9 and 3

You guys never put 2 hands on the steering wheel? Why do you think that is?

Really unsafe. I mean, come on Theresa. Your right hand barely touches the wheel? what if you have too make a sudden turn? sure you do it with 2 hands but when driving on the freeway and your hand first has to reach the wheel that may be to late.

One handed is always more fun. See if you can turn the wheel fast enough when making a tight turn.

Yeah, one handed is the best. You have to do the 10 olock (for right turns) and 2 (for left turns) then roll your hand around the steering wheel. Somtimes if you're in the right place, it's a pretty good thrill. But then again... driving thrills have already cost me $250... on one ticket. Oh well.

No, whats fun is to get a rear wheel drive car, get right on top of the turn, pop the clutch and just drag into the turn. Thats fun. Although I wouldn't recomend doing it one handed.

In Europe, we have to shift gear manually. For most of Europe, the driver sits on the left and the shift is in the middle, so you need to change gear with your right hand. In the UK for instance, they switched the possitions so they shift with their left hands.

Anyway, I hold my steering wheel with my left hand at 1 o'clock and hold my right hand on the gear.

Everybody should lern how to drive stick! Incase there is an emergency and you need a "get away" car, but OH NO!!! It is STICK!! and then you would be SOL becuase u wouldn't be able to "get away" in the "get away" car!.

Well, if you're a law abiding citizen, you won't need a get away car in the first place,

Our new car actually has this new system, I forgot what its called, but you don't even feel it shift. It sucks, I love it when cars shift hard. Our other does.

Hardly any cars in Britain are autos. And it makes sense to change gear with your left hand because the gear stick is usually really stiff and right handed people have more strength in their left arm. The right hand is better at doing fine precise movements like writing, but the left is better at doing rough strong things.

I'd think right-handed people would be stronger in their right arm, since they'd be using it more... But, perhaps not. Automatics make more sense, anyway,

This is true. My father can shift without using the clutch. Hes a really good driver... as in... he can drive. But its pretty scary.
