Greed? They know people will buy them at that price.
That's why I'm getting SG-1 instead,

The DVD's arent 20 years old thought. There only about 5 maybe even 8 years old but not much more. I suggest you use either www.choicesdirect.com or www.play.com you cant get them for like 40 off of those sites. That what i use to get all my dvd boxsets

The show is getting old now yes. But the DVD's arent. They are still Making TNG DVD's and there still relitivly knew. So i a way your paying for the DVD's not the show thats on them.

But all the other star trek shows are new to DVD too and dont cost as much??The DVDs themselves are almost no cost to the makers.I had a friend who worked in a DVD making factory and gave me a whole heap of them as they were so cheap to make?!?!

Well..unless you can get some of them for about $99, the DVDs are all pretty expensive...it's ridiculous..even on eBay people are makin' more money than the stores are.......so stupid too, cuz eBay is supposed to be cheap, etc etc....whatever *scoffs*

At choicesdirect.com you can get most TNG boxsets for around 42 and at play.com you can get some TNG boxsets from just 31.99
And then you have Voyager boxsets and at choicesdirect.com they are 58.99 and at play.com they are the same price. And in the shops i usually see voyager boxsets going for around 80 and TNG boxsets for 60.
So when you think about it buying TNG off the internet might still be expensive but its still alot cheaper than in the shops. You just have to know where to look on the net.

TNG is expensive where I live. i forgot how much. I know in the PX here on base we can get Voyager for $89.00 and we don't have to pay tax on base. But, I rather go to Wal-Mart to get the TNG ones and Voyager. Even though they are higher and I have to pay sales taxes. PX stays crowded all the time.

Everyone loves TNG. And you feel compelled to buy all of the series. The producers have gone bankrupt because of ENT and the collapse of Star Trek. They are trying to squeeze every last penny out of the trekkies.

I am so pissed that the US has sales tax...back in my home country, tax is included in the price of all items...I get so tired when I go to WalMart or BestBuy and pick up a box set for TNG or VOY and have to figure out the tax on it....when I only have like $100s.....it makes me so angry I just wanna......yell at Bush...lol
Anyway, Europeans are lucky that they can get the box sets for so little money....I mean, compared to Americans...

As I mention in my last post, here on the military base we don't have to pay sales taxes. But, when we go off base we do, like if we go to Wal-Mart.

Magenta : Seeing as your from Australia,my first thought was it was just so expensive for us folks from the southern hemisphere (im from SA) But after reading everyone else`s replies, seems its a global thing...
Over here,TNG sets are around the R1000 mark.Thats at just under the 100 mark.(i get out R1500 salary a month,so,thats most of my pay..do the math and such)I picked up season four, but the worst is,i cant find seasons 5-7 at all here,so even though i am a sucker and willing to pay the price,i cant get those here :/ Im considering trying some store that ships here but our postal service is so horrendous the chances of the dvd`s getting to me and not getting stolen is virtually zero.
So is TOS dvd`s strangely enough.Ds9 and Voyager sets are a liiiittle cheaper but once again i cant find the seasons i really want (S4 for Ds9,though i picked up S2 & 3)
I agree with Theresa though,in that it does seem to be a greed thing...they know people want them and they`re not going to drop the price anytime soon.Sure, the boxes are nice, and the presentation is slick but...really,that price is terminal.

Well on thursday K-Mart in australia have a sale on all the star trek series box sets.I am going to put 6 of the seasons on layby as my dad is buying the first season for my birthday!
They have been reduced to $50 australian a season!I would love to get the other series too,but they are only reduced to $85.Still a bargain, but I can only afford to get TNG series now!
A lotto win would be great right now!!!!!I am so excited!!!!!!!!

The lowest new price around here is like $89.95. Ebay is the place to get it.

Ya, ebay is most definitely the best place to get it. But, being skeptical about certain things on ebay, like buying the Trek seasons, I choose not to buy them off ebay. There's no 100% guarantee that the dvd's are in perfect condition...I, when I get around to buying them, just plan on sucking it up and buying them new from startrek.com.
But that's just me and I may LOVE Voyager and have a deep interest in TNG, but I'm in no hurry to get the dvd's right now. That's why I'm waiting and saving...
