Parodies

I just wondered if anyone here really enjoys parodies. I saw Galaxy Quest the other day and loved it. It was hilarious.
Today I bought Star Warped (a piss take of Star Wars, for those of us who are a little slow on the uptake today) and it has been worth every penny. It's by the same person who wrote The Soddit-Or Let's Cash in Again (The Hobbit). He also wrote a parody of The Matrix called The Mcatrix Derided. I think the books were published by the same company that published the Barry Trotter books, and of course, the wonderful Bored of the Rings.
They're very very funny, laugh out loud kind of funny. I'll type out the back cover of Star Warped:

"A long time ago (blah blah) a really quite good SF film was released. The special effects look pretty shoddy now but it did have some good actors in it.
And Mark Hamill.
A second and third film that were actually the fifth and sixth films followed and they weren't quite so good but they were still quite fun (especially when the teddies got blasted by the imperical stormtroopers). Then, just when we'd though they'd forgotten, the first, second and third films followed and they were (let's be honest noe) fairly dreadful though by now the special effects were much better.
A Gollancz parody was inevitable. And here it is.
An epic told in six chapters. An epic of good versus evil. Of dark versus light. Of hairy co-pilots and short green gurus. Of bizarre hair styles, brass bras and camp robots. An epic that starts in the middle. And that's the original..."

No, I can't stand them. I guess I don't have that kind of humor. They bore me and then I get really upset.

Sometimes I do feel bad for the people who worked on the original book or film, but only if it was like their life's work or a masterpiece.

Some of them are ok but not the best thing. I prefer the original movies lol

Most of the time I prefer the parodies to the originals... but I'm just that sort of person

By making something to be in the public eye, it's subject to that kind of torment. I think that parodies are hillarious.

Weird Al Yankovic, for instance, is a classic favorite of mine.

Some of them are really rubbish. But some of them are fantastic, eg Galaxy Quest. One of the best movies ever IMO

My fave movies are the ones that have stuff out of place, ie Airplain, Naked Gun, Loaded Weapon one, hot shots Spy hard Thoese are my kind of comedys

I think they are ok. Some of them are funny and some are just weird.

Parodies are excellent if done well. A badly-done parody is worse than a Windows error message.

The whole idea of a parody is to poke fun at the original concept, exposing it for at travesty. Mel Brooks is hilarious at them. Take Blazing Saddles, for instance, which jabbed at everything that could remotely be worked into the plot of the film. Spaceballs is another great example.

Parodies and satire are closely related. They're intended to show how stupid something really is if you take it and look at it closely. All the various facets of life, examined under a microscope, can seem silly. Let me applaud Monty Python while I'm up here, since they've done everything from the legend of King Arthur to the story of Jesus Christ and back again. And I also enjoy Futurama, because Groening took present-day issues and transposed them into a millenium in the future, making them seem outrageously inane.

I love parodies like French and Saunders. Some of their's are better than the films themselves. Some are aload of rubbish though.
