Roald Dahl hated the first movie!

That's right. It's a shame, really, because Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was a cracking book. It really took the original concept to a higher level and would make a good film. It's one of the few books which I kept from my childhood.

I went to go see this yesterday, since a friend wanted to see it. It was okay, kinda funny. I wouldn't say it was great though. Anyway, my friend told me after the film that they "thought that all the oompa-loompas were the same person." Indeedy. But they totally got rid of the scariest part of the first movie where they're on the boat and theres all those dead people.... Yeah. But, Depp is a good actor, and Highmore (or however you spell it) is good, too.

In the 1971 film, Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka was eccentric but loveable with a heart of gold. From what I've seen of the trailer for the new film, Wonka looks eccentric and sinister - I can't see anything appealing about him. But as a fan of Tim Burton's work, I'll give the film a chance until I see it in full.

As a great lover of Roald Dahl's books, I was disappointed in the original. For one, they changed the name! As a film itself, it was good, but not as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I will probably get the new one on DVD... I don't go to the cinema

I think the new one is really good! the gene wilder version is magical, you cant really compete with that. But Tim Burton has done a really good job. Can't help thinking Johnny Depp is a bit wacko ( jacko ) but he does a good Wonka. I personally love gene thou!
the only thing this film lacks is there are little singing and dancing, only the oompa-lumpa(s) which are a little scarey! Overall an excellent version and very faithful to the book!!!

we where oging to watch its yertersday untill we got some unexpected vistors....
BTW: the new movie is called "Charlie and the Chocolate factory", the first movie from 1971 was called "Willy Wonka and the cholocate factory."
The book is also called "Charlie and the chocolate factory."
Just a nice fact...

Saw it. Loved it.
They used Roald Dahl's original poems!!! Okay, so they were less moral than the other oompa loompa songs, but they were a lot better.
My only objection was that the girl that played Veruca Salt wasn't great at delivering lines. Everyone knows that they should have made this film when I was younger, because I would have fufilled the role perfectly. Veruca is my favourite character, after all... I wonder why...

I loooooved it! I saw it last sunday, and it was great imo. I loooved Johnny Depp, my god, he's really just cut for Tim Burton's movies.  I loved it.

I was watching a documentry about the legacy of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, and all of Dahl's relatives said that he would like the new film more.

watched it yesterday, or the day before i don't remember. Johnny depp is funny, but thats it...
Those oompa loompa's where scary wheren't they? Being one guy and all.

They were less scary than the original ones!
Once again they did not follow what it says in the book. In the book it says that the oompa loompas only wear leaves, apart from in the TV room, but both films seems to have had a midget semi-nudity phobia.

I watched this a few days ago. I thought it wasn't as good as the first one but Johnny Depp was really good (as ever). Charlie got a bit annoying as did the rest of the kids. I thought it was quite scary and freaky but the tunnel bit was watchable. I can't even watch that on the first one yet.

you actually wanted them to be naked? No way! if thats the worst part what they didn't do off the book then thats alright with me.

It finaly comes out tomorrow! On saturday night they are playing the old one on tv, and then later on ,e and my mumma are gunna go and see the new one
