Who believes that Captain Johnathon Archer is a better captain then Captain Kathyrn Janeway based on what you've seen from the show that Archer's in, Enterprise, and why do you think Archer is or isn't better then Janeway? I don't think he's better because Captain Janeway was always so calm with her crew and she was meant to be serious not funny, although she can be sometimes, like Archer so I think Janeway is the better captain from what i've seen so far.

I would have to say Kathryn Janeway because Archer is always funny and doesn't take the necessary precautions like she did. She is so much smarter and can be hilarious at times. Don't get me wrong, he can be too, but, just way toooo often! Besides Kathryn is my favorite actress and could SO take him!

I think its too early to decide. However, I tentatively vote Archer because it seems like he has to fly a weaker ship and will have to be a better captain to survive.

There is no contest between the two. Janeway is a far better captain as you would expect, I mean she comes from a time when they new alot more about the galaxy and she was more disaplined, two characteristics I know I would want in my captain.

I'd rather serve under Archer any day than under Janeway. She was too rigid. Archer is looser and much more direct. I like that. Janeway was direct, but could barely stand to be wrong.

I think it's too early in Archer's career to tell. But I agree that Janeway was too rigid. I will say, however, that Scott Bakula is a WAY better actor than Kate Mulgrew will ever be.

Can't agree with you there. While Scott is good, Mulgrew performs just as well i her acting. But that's just my oppinion.

Janeway too rigid? That's a good one, considering how many times she rewrote the rules regarding the Prime Directive. Kathryn Janeway wasn't perfect, but I would gladly serve under anyone who kept her crew alive during 6 1/2 years in the hostile and unfamiliar Delta Quadrant.

Remember though, he is just starting out. I'm sure there will be some character developement that will make him a better captain. Janeway had 7 seasons to become the great captain she was.

I put up a post about who the real captain of Enterprise is Archer or T'Pol? I stated that T'Pol was more in charge than Archer in the unexpected ep.
Saying that I guess you would know what my answer is?
Janeway no doubt about it. She's assertive, smart, in charge, aggressive, and stronger than Archer.

I'd say Janeway. But they came from different times and different backgrounds. She's ahead of him in many ways, hell the whole human race is a head. It's like what 300 years more experience? He's gotta get some credit he's the first. But all in all I'd say Janeway...for the time being at least.

Janeway may have the advantage of 300 years of technological advances, but in reality, she is in a worse position than Archer. Archer can still go back to Earth and is in contact with Starfleet. And even if Earth can't help them, the Vulcans can, especially in the form of T'Pol. Janeway never had that advantage during her near 7 years in the Delta Quadrant. She was really on her own.

She may not have had Starfleet, but she had allies out there. How else do you explain here unlimited supply of shuttles and torpedoes?

What allies?
Voyager got hold of supplies and technologies by trading with races they had brief contact with on their way to the Alpha Quadrant. And they were very lucky if a species did not attempt take advantage of their situation as the only Starfleet vessel in the Quadrant (aside from the Equinox, with whom they had no contact with or knowledge of until briefly at the end of 2375 and that became deadly). Most species they formed allies with they eventually were forced to say good-bye to.
Believe me, Janeway was in a more difficult position that Archer.

We don't have enough data about Archer to defend him. Otherwise, I would.

Archer is okay. I think he has potential, since he was able to see the value in having a Vulcan Science Officer as part of his permanent crew.

well, i do like archer, hes a good captain, and a risk taker, but janeway, overall is a much better captain, but look at the traning, janeway had Star fleet academy, and he had a early different version and lot less knowledge of space and aliens then..... and how to deal with alines...
