Picard Harsh?

How many of you think Picard was to harsh at least till about the 7th season? I mean this man never new how to be nice. First he could never get along with kids. Then vacations never worked. Then relationships failed. Picard was soo stuborn don't you think atleast in things that mattered maybe it has something to do with that fake heart of his! No wonder they had a counsler on board no one could tolerate him. Picard for goodness sake was an baw humbug, he frightened everyone. And can you imagine if Picard were on Voyager? Even with a counsler he would kill everyone except the non emotionals and the Vulcan crew members. He wouldn't have allowed Nelix. Tom would be in the brig and hed have close supervision on Chakotay and the Maquis. Oh know what about B'elana certainly she wouldn't be cheif engineer. Think about poor Harry Kim hed wet his pants on the bridge every day. For a while the only people Picard could get along with would be the doctor tuvok and later seven of nine.

I wouldn't call Picard mean. He's just stuborn I guess.

Perhaps Picard's characteristics may seem to be mean to some people but in his heart, he's a good and honest man. And all this doesn't make him a worse captain. A bad father? Perhaps...

I remember Picard speaking to Worf in the movie First Contact, he insulted WOrf for being a coward. This is probably one of the worst insults a Klingon can get and Picard used it! I didn't like that line to be honest. Picard shouldn't have said that.

Oh well... he's still a cool captain

I guess it's okay, though because Picard said sorry.

I had a boss like Picard, who I respected. I haven't liked every boss I've worked with, but I liked this one.

Picard is "firm, but fair". Screw up and he'll come down on you hard. However, he was very fair and approachable with those who worked hard, and he had the respect of his men. That made him a good boss, in my book.

Yeah he was a top captain!!!!

He was a bit stiff with the kids[no children on my bridge]but he slowly loosened up after a while.He took his job as a starfleet captain very seriously.He called worf a coward because he was getting 'emotional' about losing enterprise to the borg and didnt want to blow it up!Remember in generations his 'fantasy' was to have a beautiful french home.With a beautiful wife/kids,and his nephew still alive.He cried when he recieved the news of his brother and nephew dying in a fire.The last of the 'Picard' line,that was really sad.He does have a heart but only showed it when the situation called for it!Remember Data was going to be 'taken apart' to be studied?He fought for him in a court battle to be recognised as a sentured being.He was the best of all the captains in my opinion,not the best looking,but the most dedicated.

I don't think you can really compare his harshness to any other of the Captains as they have not been in the same situations. However, I do think he was pretty harsh towards Q whereas Janeway seemed more giving to him.

At first he was a bit of a loner who wasn't used to getting close to others, but he changed over time. he was the best.

He didnt like Q because he was always playing stupid tricks on the crew.The court room hearing,wearing all the silly clothes.

I loved all the episodes where he was embarased by old girl friends.The one(cant think of name)when data was going to be dismembered.The judge called him a "Pompus Ass"but a really 'sexy man!

I loved the look on his face.He had a sexy voice,and his air of 'dignity/duty made him very attractive.

He was the best captain, because he was English. He was not harsh, but made a great captain. He was responsible for the lives of a huge crew, many of them children, and he emotionally detatched himself so that it was easier to make decisions concerning them. I think he did a very good job as captain of the enterprise. I wouldn't let children on my bridge unless they were my own. I wouldn't want sticky fingers and crayon all over my nice shiny consoles!

He only let wesley onto the bridge because he was way past the sticky fingers stage.He was also very intelligent and ended up having a console of his own!

i agree that picard can be very harsh but remember that he has the most responsibillity of the whole crew so he sometimes just has to be harsh

he can be a bit harsh to kids and pelaski but i wouldnt say he was that harsh so i said no
