How is it that Kirks Constitution class starship and other ships in that timeline were in comission for about half a century or more when Enterprise got decomissioned in just 10 years? Granted Star Trek was written in early post WW2 era when they re-used things much more and now we live in a world where we waste waste waste.

Could it be that Starfleets technological advances were being made at the same time that Kirk had a Constitution class starship? If there were so many changes that had to be made, it could have just been easier to replace the entire ship rather than keep upgrading and upgrading onto it. Kirks Enterprise was also a legends ship, why would they want to keep using a part of their history until it was destroyed when then could have it in a museum so that everyone could look at it? And I do doubt that the WW2 era had anything to do with Star Trek in the least.

Dont forget that when the NX-01 was around they were only just getting into space exploration and it was one of the first starships built. The design is similar to a Submarine, every part of the ship is used. This would make the ship harder to upgrade and it would go out of date very quickly with its technology and everything. Plus the NX-01 saw a hell of a lot of fire fights and battle damage.

With the 1701 it was much bigger and much more versatile built for all different type of missions. Compared to the NX-01 the 1701 would be like a luxury liner. Plus they had more technology in the 1701's time and was more efficient. With its size technology the ships legend and its memorable crew it would have been better to just keep updating the ship instead of regularly replacing it.

^ Basicly what he said, the NX-01 isn't the easyest to upgrade, the NCC-1701 is, plus, its the design etc..., the later ships could be adapted for what they needed it to do, the NX-01 couldn't. Plus it was obsolete, what with the Dadeluse Class ships being made

Yeah i mean you look at the Enterprise NX-01 and then look at Columbia NX-02. The Columbia is alot more advanced than the enterprise. Its hull plating is better its top warp speed is higher. It had Ventral and Dorsal torpedo launchers. More phasers than the NX-01 and apparently it has "Pulse Phase Cannons" plus the Columbia's bridge is different. So much difference and the Columbia was built just over 3 years after the enterprise. So imagine that accept like in 10 years when the enterprise was decomissioned

Possibly early ships were not configured to last for an extended time in space. Maybe the ship was designed to only last a short amount of time.

Perhaps the way in which the NX-01 works was deemed too expensive as cheaper and more efficient engines were designed.

Heck, I'm talking about it as if it were real - I'm turning into one of those excessive fans!

NOOOOOOOOOOO

Wait! That sounded just like Vader from Revenge of the Sith! Argh!

Well dont forget back then they didnt have many resources, the technology was poor and inificient.

Its like if you want a car that you can "Do up" with extra body kits, wheels and engines etc then you would go for a car thats either new or at most about 10 years old. Not a car thats older than that. (sry if im making no sense, need sleep lol)

the producers wanted to attract a younger audience by making "cooler-looking" ships

Hey, I reckon Archer's ship was vintage! They should've kept it.

But yeah, it did get battered around rather a lot.

Maybe the NX-01 was being reserved for a fleet museum, thus why she was being decommissioned so early. It was already extablished in ENT:E that the NX-Class could last for over 120 years is carefully taken care of.
