People who post long posts must have a lot of time on their hands. Sometimes I find it interesting.. But, not all the time. It takes too much energy and time.

I don't think so. People who post long posts are quick typers.

What does it matter anyway? Small posts or long posts. We all love STV. Longs as it is not one word posts. I try not to do those. Working on it.

I disagree. If we were to bore ourselves with ONLY intelligent conversations everyone would fight and argue. Because everyone believes thier point of view is correct. Take Founder, and RM for example ... those two are both smart guys and always seem to be in the middle of most of the arguments that go on.

I agree with having more intelligent conversations to a certain extent. But this site can not be all serious and stuff. It would lose too many users. I would leave if it weren't a place for me to go and talk to people about Star Trek and other events in my life and the world.

The website is a "Friendly Discussion" Forum... not a "Boring Intelligent" Forum.

You do prove a point about it, but understand that the alternative to "Who would Janeway get nasty with on VOY" does not automatically mean it will be boring. Intelligence doesn't mean boring. It doesn't have to be formal either, but a lot of the topics are spam and are quite frankly embarrassing to new members. Maybe it is ok to have ONE "Who should Janeway be in love with." but I've seen three at the same time and all three had like 10 pages. Thats ridiculous. I've seen very good thought provoking topics and they make it to 2 pages, but the Janeway getting it on*Shudders from the image* makes it to like 20 pages. Thats just disturbing. Thankfully the VS topics have died out, but I remember when there was a new one literally every day! Those topics made it to like 30 pages too. To be fair, I did post in those topics and argued with many people. I'm just saying, it seems wrong that thought provoking topics die after 2 pages, but Janeway knocking boots, three topics at the same time, will all make it to 30 pages.

Look at the site lately. When I first joined, literally every section had a topic that had been posted in. WN was this intense arena for debate. New RPGS were being made nearly daily. Now its died down a lot. The only topics I see are those Janeway and Chakotay topics. Those aren't bad topics, but I believe it is putting a lot of new members off.

I understand what you mean now. I agree that the "Janeway and chakotay forever" topics are pretty lame. I don't even post in the topics like that. But you have to understand that there are some youngsters here, Founder. Not everyone has fully matured yet. Not saying that is an excuse.

Why don't you make RPG's? I don't think the same people willw ant to continue making new ones ALL the time. They get draining and boring after a while. That is why we need new people to step up and make them or the RPG part of the website will go down.

It matters because "small posts" are spam. No one here said you had to post a ten paragraph post. Like what you just posted is fine. I'm saying stuff like, "Lol" "Yes." "Why?", that shouldn't be allowed. It adds nothing and should be left to PMs.

I'm not sure if it really is a matter of "youngsters". Perhaps it is for some, but I'm sure I saw people my age or older making those type of topics. I understand that not everyone had matured, but it isn't really a matter of maturity. If they want to post in that kinda topic, fine, go for it. But they each shouldn't make one topic of their own. There should be ONE Janeway and (insert crewmember here) forever topic and thats it. Its just spamming otherwise.

You can only make one RPG at a time. I made two and am, as far as I know, the only person to have TWO RPGs at once. I've stuck with my RPG, which is Deep Space Guardian. So I'm doing what I can to keep it alive.

I don't RPG so I wasn't aware of the rules about only have one or something .... Yes, I know there are people here of older age who post in those topics. Yes, I do agree with you that having tons of them is spam.

I was not talking about too small of a post Founder. I was not talking about one word and then hit submit. That is annoying . Now typing more than one word is not spam. But you don't have to type long posts all the time that is also annoying.

Deb, you said typing more than one word doesn't make it spam. So if I say "but why?" instead of just "why?" its not spam anymore?

Here is an example of spam to me.

hi

and why

awesome

those small words. Isn't spam not good on the board? I thought it was annoying to the mods? I am confussed now.

I am saying if people type two or three maybe a paragraph is not spam. and it is ok. Just saying small words which I try not to do myself.

Too long of a post and spam is annoying. But certain long posts are ok but why make long posts when it is just taking up space? and not too many small words either. Which I am going to try to clean up my posts cause they so annoying. I finally waking up.

Spam is anything that is off topic or doesn't add anything to a conversation. For example, you could be discussing computers and somebody could add a paragraph about dinosaurs. It's longer than a few words, but it doesn't have anything to do with the conversation. Hence, it's spam.

Actually! Spam is a form of meat in a tin can.

*sings* Spam, spam, spam, spam, spaaaaam! Lovely spam!

Anyhow, on topic. The future of STV? 3-5 years, I'm guessing.

Well, I think that STV will be around for a while yet. It's laster for quite some time...I mean, 4 years is a long time for a forum community to be online. Considering that we have people registering every day, and that many of us who are veterans of STV continue to post regularly, the site is bound to be on the net until Morphy either stops running it or a hacker takes it out (God forbid).

Unfortunately, for some people (such as myself), STV has been a bit of a disappointment in the last 6 months. This is because it seems that the word "Voyager" in the acronym "STV" has been abandoned. If you have seen the Voyager discussion forum, you're probably appalled at the amount of totally useless banter-topics. Also, the Voyager RPG is non-existent "due to inactivity" supposedly, but I still don't think it should have been removed. The reason some of us joined STV was for the purpose of roleplaying Voyager and being a part of important Voyager discussions.

Well, anyway...some of the disappointment that is shared by certain members of the STV community will surely not cause the shutdown of the forum by any stretch of the imagination.

I have made some unforgettable friends through STV, which is one major thing I must thank Morphy for. Even without a Voyager RPG, I enjoy talking about many non-trek related issues as well as expressing myself through my fan fiction and my websites, and else. Everyday, I look forward to getting online and logging in to STV because I know there will be at least five forums waiting for me to jump right and and add something interesting to the conversation. I know that there is a true community here, a family as it were.

We should all be aware, however, that all good things must come to an end, STV.Com included. We can only hope the end will progress slowly!
