PostMon Jul 04, 2005 7:51 pm    The Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti Thread

This is an invitation to those who believe in Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti, and also to those who don't. Both skeptics and believers comments and opinions are valid.

I had an interest in this awhile back and have recently renewed my interest, thanks to some bargain books I brought on the subject. I'll be studying the topic again when I have spare time.

There's Bigfoot in the U.S. There's Sasquatch in Canada. There's The Yeti in The Himalayas. But that's not all. There have been rumours of ape-like creatures in Scotland, England, the Gobi Desert, Australia, parts of Africa, China and elsewhere. Are they ape-men? Is it all a big hoax? Is there a logical explanation? Who knows?

Any thoughts/theories, folks? I'd like to hear them. I have my own, but I'd like to invite comments first, before I bore everyone with one of my long posts.

Well with the ape looking ones, that would most likely mean that the ape thing got stuck in evolution. And for one I don't belive in that! And I think its just silly. I think that someone got bored and just made up all of these silly things

Some of them could be hoaxes, but it's hard to believe that ALL of them are. I, personally, believe there could be some truth in SOME of them, although we can't be sure what.

Thats a weak argument. People argue that about God. This is why Athiest don't believe. Because they only want proof. Proof isn't everything.

It's not like she's forcing what she believes on anyone else, so for all what anyone should care, she doesn't need to give any proof or any argument for that matter to believe what she wants to believe.

What are you talking about? I'm not asking her to give proof. I'm not asking her to explain anything. I'm just saying that, proof isn't everything. If anything you should be giving that lecture to her, not me. She is that one who said "but untill there is PROOF..." NOT ME. I don't care about the "burden of proof". I believe what I want. I wasn't questioning her beliefs. If you're talking about my "weak argument" portion, I meant that not everything needs the burden of proof. I'm not trying to change her way of thinking... In fact, I don't even know what it is you're talking about....

I do understand what you are saying, and I am talking about your "weak argument" comment. I understand you aren't trying to change her way of thinking... blah blah blah. If you don't get what i said, whatever, doesn't matter, i don't care. (i'm not saying this negativly, i'm saying it for the sake of i don't like getting into arguments)

ANYWAY, we're getting off topic.

its hard to get Founder.

Anyway, i don't believe in Bigfoot, sasquatch, yeti or whatever relates to that.
Its just like loch ness, one person started it for whatever reason and some others started seeing money in it.

Its hard to "get me"? I don't even want to know what that means....

On topic...

Its possible that these creatures are real. But one must wonder what they are then and if they are intelligent.

Everyone's opinion is valid here. The only thing I would like to ask is that if anyone posts any thoughts, please go into a bit of detail. I want to avoid brief answers along the lines of "I believe simply because" or "I don't believe because it isn't true". I want this to be a meaty debate with people going into some detail.

Thank you.

All right. My two cents.

For starters, though, and for the record, I always thought that Sasquatch and Bigfoot were the same thing. Though that may mess up my point, and it may not. Now, in the case of bigfoot, I don't believe it's true. I seriously think that it was just a guy dressed up in a suit. Not a real creature. Now about the Yeti, I think that one is just a myth. And Sasquatch, well, obvious what I think on that.

Alright, i've seen the tape where someone supposedly saw the Yeti on the other side of a river.... Thats a man in a costume, that was so obvious it totally took away my believe of the thing ever existing. perhaps if there are more pictures we can post them here? they are not very big pictures i would think... Not HQ.

Next too that, they make too much fun of it(harry and the hendersons) so i guess it started out as a joke.

More interesting is the story is the Devil in New Jersey forest(or somewhere near that). That is believing there is a monster while its surrounded by an entire civilization of camera's. Nobody ever got it on tape though...

Well..I have no idea whether they exist in real life or not. There has always been myths when there were humans, so it'll always be a part of our world I guess. It would be pretty cool if they would exist, but I don't think we'll ever find out because scientist wouldn't spend so much time looking for something that might exist...

Go on, Deb.

It is true that there are many myths in this world, and have been. Some are the product of an overactive imagination, others have some basis in the truth.

I believe there are three types of people who look at myths:

1.) The complete skeptic, who WON'T believe ANY evidence presented to him or her.

2.) The open-minded one who will believe ANYTHING given to him/her, no matter how questionable it may be.

3.) The one who keeps an open mind, but a rational one. A person who judges each piece of evidence on it's own merit. I like to consider myself in this category.

it is just no such thing in my opinion. I think people make things up sometimes for attention, in my opinion.

I believe they are either escaped pets (like all those big cats you get in Britain, the escaped panthers etc) or living fossils- animals that were thought to have died out but still exist (e.g the coeleocanth, a fish that had been only found as fossils but was then found as a living specimen off the coast of Africa)
This universe is amazing. There is so little we know about it. Therefore, I am not going to say that there is no chance that a large ape like creature could exist in each of these areas.

I honestly don't believe in Big Foot, Sasquatch, wehatever you want to call it. The reason why I don't is because in today's society where humanity asically has a firm grasp on what's going on in the world, I think we would've discovered them, either the actual animals themselves in the wild, or remains of them somewhere. The lack of evidence of their existence greatly outweighs the evidence of their existence. I mean really, what animals haven't been discovered by now?
