PostFri Jul 01, 2005 12:03 am    Canada Day (July 1st)

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL! I shall most likely be attending the fireworks and waving my bigass Canadian flag that I have tied to a hockey stick while cruising in my car.

Yeah Canada!

Congratulations for winning the war that threw off your British and French oppressors!

Oh, wait. Nevermind.

Happy Canada Day!

/\ hey, we're still enjoying oppressing them! Don't give them ideas!

Last year, our biology teacher made us sing the Canadian national anthem on Canada day.

Oh Canada! Our home and sacred land!
True patriot... um, something... french....

Well, I can't remember much of it.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

My bro bought some fireworks, we're gonna set them off. And when I'm older, I fully intend to do something to get rid of any remaining British culture ties, such as the Governor General, and the Queen on our money. Trudeau should be on the $20 bill!

O Canada! Terre de nos aeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l'pe,
Il sait porter la croix!

Ton histoire est une pope
Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempe,
Protgera nos foyers et nos droits.

Protgera nos foyers et nos droits.

^French

The French one when translated to english though is very different.

(English translation of the French anthem)

O Canada! Land of our forefathers
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As in thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic of the most brilliant exploits.
Ch.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights
Will protect our homes and our rights.

And this is now the original poem that our English anthem came from.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,
Our own beloved native land!
Our True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God, in thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

I looove your national anthem. England should change ours from God Save The Queen to Rule Britannia... because the monarchy mean *beep* all, and not all that much of the population believe in the christian god.
