If you have a job, is it merely a job? Or is it a career? If so, do you have the career that you always wanted, or have you settled for less? If you're on your way to getting the career you want, tell us how it's going for you! If you don't have a job, or are still in high school, what kind of career do you hope for?

As for me, I am still in school but I hope to attend UC Berkeley and double major in Acting and Linguistics. In a few years, after I have saved up enough money to fund it, I plan to apply for a Summer Immersion Program that will take me to France for a month. There, I wish to learn about some of the Language Schools. I may apply to study at one, if I feel that my foreign language skills need some fine-tuning. Other than that, I'm not going to waste time and money when I could be teaching English or translating as a foreign service officer. As long as I have a career that deals with other languages and other kinds of people, I think I will be happy. Either I will do diplomatic work, or I may become an actress on the stage. I'm not quite sure yet.

I'm going to the Universtiy of California at San Diego next year to study English. So... I want to major in English Literature... maybe go with a concentration in writing. But for my masters degree, I'm going to film school to become a director/screenwriter. For a career, I mostly want to be a write... screen, novels, journalist, etc...

By the time I'm 30, I hope to be pretty well off in this areer, plus a few foreign languages under my belt. Then I'm going to quit and go to the FBI to be a special agent.

I have two more years of high school. Then I plan to go to the local university and major in both English and Mathematics. After I get whatever degrees from those, I will go on to obtain a Bachelor's of Education. So, I'll become a secondary school teacher of English and Math (crazy, yes

).

My real passion is writing, so I hope to get some novels published in my lifetime (probably fantasy and science fiction).

It seems we all have something in common: a passion for english and/or writing! Also, Sam, I find that your interest in working for the FBI matches mine! I have always been keenly curious about what it would be like to work for them.

Right now Im just working in a supermarket which is really not a career but however I started a business 4 hours ago. Im going to be selling some gift items and making some money.

My new business career is simple I sell a product for lets say 100 bucks and the company takes away 50 dollars of the profit and the other 50 goes to my bank account.

I won't go into great detail about my job, I've moaned about it for years on here and just talking about it depresses me.

What I'd really love to do is magazine journalism. I would love to write articles for film or wrestling magazines. The thing is, how does one learn writing skills? Is it something you have in you or can it be taught? How do you develop a style which is distinct and keeps people interested.

I have a lot of interests as far as films go, mainly old films starring the likes of James Cagney. My favourite films include "Citizen Kane" and "Some Like It Hot". I liked the old films because they actually had plots, unlike some of the CGI-fests we get in this day and age. And I feel that most films try *too hard* now. They try to push the boundaries too much by trying to get more and more CGI in, rather than actually developing characters an audience can care about, coming up with believable dialogue and telling a good story.

Sorry, gone off-topic there. So, yes, if I could choose, I'd like to write freelance for wrestling and movie magazines. That'd be my dream job, writing about something I love.

Good choice of career. Some people think it will be all shoot-outs and car chases but it's also about research, investigation and attention to detail, which you sound like you have grasped.

My only job was my band. We made a lot of money from our gigs, but since we broke up thats over. I plan on attending the naval academy and becoming an officer in the navy, but my real choice of career would have to be as a professional musician.

Well I have a job, but have no intention on making it my career. I am really interested in politics, and would like to somehow get involved in that, such as becoming an elected official, or even being a campaign manager could be fun.

However, considering other options, I also am really curious to check out nuclear engineering, or aerospace engineering. That just sounds like all kinds of fun, IMO

Hmm...all of you have very noble ideas for your careers, I applaude you! Keep dreaming and don't let anything stand in your way. I hope you all can one day say that you don't just have a job, but a valuable and profitable career.

Heh, dreams don't always translate into real life, but it sure is just fun to imagine to sometimes. Am sure either way, I will find something meaningful to me though.

Thanks, Cathexis. If I were a magazine journalist, it wouldn't feel like a job. To me, a job is a chore, something you tolerate just to pay the bills. A career is something you enjoy, something you find rewarding.

I have a passion for wrestling and movies and enjoy talking about them, so I'd certainly enjoy writing about them and making money at the same time.

Just graduated from high school yesterday! Oh yeah! Got some scholarships for university! going to learn history and political science. I'll see how those go after a year, but hopefully I'll leanr a lot and enjoy it. After 4 years of University I plan to attend law school for 3 years, get my law degree and then become a lawyer! Raking in the big bucks! Oh yeah!

I'm torn between being a computer technician and a radioagrapher. I really like computers, and tend to get on well with them, so being a technician would be good. However, I would love to help people, and being a radioagrapher would allow me to do that. I've got a few years to make up my mind (I'm waiting till Sammie's in school before studying fulltime for any job- gives me time to get better).
