Oh my god! I just saw this and it's truly amazing! Way better than the original in my opinion. The sound was probably the best part of it, even more so than the special effects. Anyway, has anyone else seen it yet?

Yes. And Dakota Fanning. She's an incredible actress. Like a 30 year old in a ten year olds body.

When they first broadcast the radio play of War of The Worlds in America, thousands of people thought it was real and in some places there was mass panic.

I want to see it, but i'll wait a while.

At first, I wasn't keen because the movie wasn't set in Victorian London, like the original H.G. Wells novel. However, I had a think about it and came to the conclusion that a contemporary setting might be more fun, as long as the core concept remains the same - and, a WOTW movie in Victorian London has already been done so why tell the story twice?

Plus, Tom Cruise is a very good actor and Spielberg is one of my Top Ten Directors. Who can ignore such a collaboration?

I shall see it. I think it's out next week, here in England.

I'm actually kinda glad they set the movie in America instead of Watford, because nowadays, American's have more of a sense of togetherness in the community than most of the people in England do. I don't know any of my neighbours, apart from Simon who I know from school, so if aliens started attacking, I wouldn't go crying to my neighbours for help.

I'm not going to see it. I can't stand tom cruise. And I wont give him my money! And btw... this whole katie holmes thing... is a set up... don't fall for it ppl.

I think it is, and thats awesome, because Independence Day is one of my favorite movies. Im going to go see it again tonight.

By the way, I have started a War of the Worlds RPG here. Its an original story inspired by the movie. If anyone wants to join thatd be great.

I just saw it.... Very dissappointing.

Its just a display of Special Effects. I thought it was very weakly put together, especially the ending. I was expecting more of a story then just a spectacle.

I saw it last night and it was excellent! Definitely a Star Wars beater in my book though I doubt it will be widely considered as such.

I thought the ending was good - far better than having suddenly realised that the enemy has a critical weakness and then launching a 'crucial' attack (aka Independence Day - which I also love by the way). In the same way, I liked seeing it from the eyes of a civillian who is not a hero which was a refreshing change for films of this genre.

As for Dakota Fanning, I have nothing but praise for her. Look at her and then look who they picked to play Anakin Skywalker in Episode I. Now there's a Hollywood Brat. I'm sorry Jake but I've seen more acting talent in a wooden spoon.

I enjoyed the film. Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest director's of all time and Tom Cruise is a fine actor, so a collaboration between the two was bound to work, in my opinion.

I enjoyed the original novel by H.G. Wells, I still have the WOTW vinyl, and I enjoyed the 1950s movie. This movie was a worthy addition to WOTW. It was interesting to see the movie in contemporary setting, it was very tense throughout and very realistic - if such a thing were to happen (God forbid), people would panic, there would be looting and self-preservation would come into play.

It was an edge-of-the-seat movie throughout. Everything is so normal at the beginning with Ray Ferrier (Cruise) babysitting his daughter and son for the weekend, without a care in the world. As a viewer, we know what's coming next, which really makes things interesting. From there, the movie is just excellent, with the right pacing, the right balance of everything, and some truly terrifying scenes.

By the way, there was a WOTW TV series in the 80s, produced in the United States? Has anyone here seen it?

I wanna see this movie and my co-worker told me its the best movie. So, maybe I'll go and see it.
