Having now watched Voyager through for the second time, I can see why you feel that way. Although I still see J/7 as a mentor-student relationship, I think part of the reason I can't go all the way to J/7 is that I have an aversion to mentor-student turning into lovers. Too Pygmalion for my taste. But I did watch the prime J/7 episodes with a "J/7 eye," and yeah, I could see it.

I saw him acting as her guide and teacher and friend. It wasn't a shared experience; he was leading her trance.
I saw J & C as a deep friendship--of the sort that are rarely seen in series television. It was really nice for me to see a man and a woman my own age sharing a friendship--and celebrating that friendship for what it is. It's expected that the male and female leads will get together as lovers--it's the normal pattern, and I don't like what that says about male-female relationships, that they're not complete until they become sexual.
My best friend here--the person I spend the most time with and trust with my life--is a guy. We go out as a couple quite a bit--as a matter of fact, we're going out for a gorgeous romantic meal for his birthday tonight. He was my rock during my boyfriend's final illness and after his death. I can't imagine my life without him.
And we would never change that. To become romantically involved (and yes, sometimes we look at each other and say "what if?") would change the nature of our friendship--could harm it. What we have is terrific--why change it?
J & C showed me a mid-life man and woman sharing an adult friendship, characters I could really relate to. Sure there was sexual tension at first--but first Janeway, and then Chakotay chose not to act on it. It worked--why change it?

Just to be different, and because of a book that I read about Janeway before Voyager, (I don't feel like going to find out what the title is right now) I think she should end up with Mark. They had the sweetest relationship in that book.
It's kind of funny, they gave options to Janeway, to get people interested in the show. She wasn't the only one who was single but had a special someone waiting at home. I don't see a topic about who Harry should have ended up with. Oh well, that's what I think!

But, Mark is married to someone else unless he gets divorce from his wife to be with Janeway, I don't see how Janeway and Mark should be together.
People make up subtext and not obivously real. Like yeah I see Janeway and Chakotay together, but I know it is not going to happened.
Like I been saying. Like there is no C/7 cause Seven broke it up with Chakotay and I am not going to repeat again lol.
I say they should be single. It is just a show after all. can ignore it but oh well.

^^^Thats a new one for the record
Teya, my best friend is also a guy who I would tell absolutely anything and trust him with my life. However, I do not see the similarity between our relatioship and J/C. J/C have more oomph and chemistry like they need eachother to live and love eachother deeply.

The reason Janeway didnt like him from the start was that she thought that Chakotay was some kind of rebel especially with the whole moq. thing going around during the ep. The Caretaker. She basicly saw him as a trator to starfleet, but after Chakotay got to know her better he realized that she was more than a stobburn starfleet captain. So you are right in some ways.

Don't see it. I see a guy that for most of season 3 and a part of season 4 is definitely interested. I see a woman who keeps pushing him away.
After season 4, I see two friends sharing dinners, the occasional holodeck program. Nothing more.
BTW, I'll also confess here that there is no quicker way to bore me to tears than presenting 2 characters as "needing each other to live." Any character who depends on another to give his or her life meaning and purpose needs therapy, not romance.

I'd like to see a little C/J/Q love triangle but one where Chakotay comes out on top.

Ok let me think...What would happen if our love triangle was a secret one and Janeway couldnt pick which person she wanted to be with who would you say? I think Chakotay(of course)because they have chemistry and Q usually he just wants a companion. Janeway has lots of those...

I never even thought about a gay couple on voyager. |
- I read Seven was originally supposed to be Gay. I don't like the idea of J/7 - too much of a mother daugther relationship - would be too creepy in that aspect. Maybe that's one of the reason's why Seven saw Chakotay as a love interest - Kill the mother and sleep with the father. While Janeway wasn't Seven's mother she was the closest thing to a mother Seven had, and Chakotay may not nessicarly been a father figure - he was kind of like the father of the crew and in many ways did have a very odd marriage to Janeway.
Similitude wrote: | Star Trek has yet to cross that line, they should at some point. |
- You know I think ST is too wholesome to do it. Look at the 'risks' they took on Voyager. Hell if you could call them risks, being a sci-fi show they could basically destroy the ship and erase the timeline and everything would be right as rain again. Perhaps if TNG were still around.
casper wrote: | i love janeway and Q's relationship.....they're so funny |
- Funny, yes. I love opposites, but this is one thats too opposite for me.
Starbuck wrote: | He thought she and the rest of the crew were dead. He remaind faithful to a "dead" woman for three years. |
- I agree.
Couldn't stand Kashyk, Jaffen was okay - actually I thought he seemed very similar to mark. Micheal Sullivan - No...Just No. Though I have to say when I found out the name of that character I was quite amused. He shares the same name as my brother.
My pick would definetly be Chakotay. Was and still is.

I think that Janeway was best on her own.
But if I haaad to choose...
It would not be Chakotay. I prefer them as good friends.
I quite liked the Janeway/Q thing. But well, I don't think he is Janeway's kinda guy.
Tom Paris and Janeway? Not sure...I like him with Torres better
J/7? It amuses me, so I like it There is some chemistry there
But I can most definitely say that Janeway and Chakotay would be a better couple than Seven and Chakotay which came out of NO WHERE
