I just watched a clip of the graphics and OMG amazing :
Quote: | The keys to the system's amazing power are the Cell processor (jointly developed by Sony, IBM and Toshiba) and the RSX graphics processor, co-developed with Nvidia and SCEI. Working in tandem, the new components produce an astounding two teraflops of floating point horsepower - a simply unprecedented amount of processing power. See the article on the games that were shown elsewhere on this site, for a look at how the system's sheer grunt will change interactive entertainment forever.
The hardware design innovates in plenty of other ways. Bluetooth enables up to seven controllers to connect to the console without troublesome wires, and expect plenty of connectivity between PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP (PlayStation Portable) via the Wireless capabilities (802.11 b/g standards are both supported).
Storage is taken care of with a detachable HDD (Hard Disk Drive), and the system boasts unparalleled connectivity. Six USB 2.0 slots allow a multitude of devices to connect to the system (including the controllers, which are charged via USB), while Memory Stick, SD card and Compact Flash media all boast their own slots.
High-definition visuals come as standard, with resolutions of up to 1080p supported. To make the most of this mind-blowing leap in visual fidelity, Blu-ray Disc - a new breed of high definition DVD capable of storing up to 54GB - is supported, as is pretty much every kind of DVD and CD you can get your hands on. This includes PS one and PS2 games, as PLAYSTATION 3 fully supports all the games released for its predecessors.
Simply put, PLAYSTATION 3 will be the centrepiece of any entertainment system when it is released next spring. The high definition, realtime visuals shown at the conference were truly astonishing to behold, and the tech demos that were demonstrated hinted at the sheer extent of the leap in power we can expect as PlayStation moves into the next generation. |

I'm sorry but this looks amazing
The only problem I found was this :
Quote: | GTA may not be as securely locked into the PS3 as we thought. In an interview with TheStreet.com, Take-Two Interactive CEO Paul Eibeler tells the online publication that the home for the next Grand Theft Auto installment has yet to be determined.
Q: You and Sony have had an exclusive arrangement with the Grand Theft Auto titles. Are we going to see a similar arrangement on the next generation of consoles?
When we announced that back on Grand Theft Auto 3, Sony was a big, big factor in the business and was a great partner of ours. We have since brought that brand to the Xbox and the PC market. It's just a wait-and-see attitude that we take to the market. We study the market and see whether that exclusive nature is good for the company at that time or if it's something that we might not want to do.
Q: So, the decision hasn't been made yet?
We haven't announced anything yet. It's a good position to be in, because we have the world's biggest brand and we have the hardware companies asking us, and certainly they want that product on their system. We will be finalizing that decision as we study the market.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise is a monster series that has sold over 40 million units worldwide. The last three installments were locked in exclusive agreements to debut on Sony's Playstation 2, helping the company acheive a dominant position in the last video game wars. The titles were eventually released to Microsoft's Xbox and PC.
An exclusive deal with Sony on the PS3 to debut the next installment could be a major factor in next-generation console sales. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all striking deals to have games appear only on their next-generation systems in order to secure games that can't be played on rival systems.
Stay tuned to PS3 Portal for more news on the next Gen GTA game as it develops |
What do you think ?

If I were rich, I'd own an Xbox, PS3 and Gamecube. But I'm not rich.
It is frustrating. For example, I have a PS2 and I enjoy the WWE Smackdown games. I've also heard good things about the Wrestlemania games, which are only available on Xbox. So I suppose I could buy one. But then you also have WWE Day of Reckoning for the Gamecube so to play that, I'd need to buy a Gamecube.
One has to draw the line somewhere.
Lord Borg, what was the last PS2 game you brought?

They're the first images I've seen of it - can you imagine how fantastic games like GTA are going to look on this?
Unfortunately I bet it's gonna be massively expensive when it comes out so it will be a few years before I purchase one. I only just bought a PS2 in August last year
It's good to see that this is going to be PS1/PS2 game compatible as well - I heard on the radio while I was driving to town the other day that the new XBOX mightn't be able to play the old XBOX games?? Surely that's a pretty major problem...

I've heard romours about that but nothing concrete.
As for the price I wouldn't worry to much if I were you.
An interview from a member of sony revieled that the ps3 and its games will be much cheaper than the ps2 because the games are easier to make and have a lower production cost.
I've forgotten the website I found that on but I will edit this post and add a quote once I find the message

Well if it's cheaper than the PS2 when it came out, I may be tempted. After all, that student loan has to be spent on something
Though then again, food does come in handy ever now and then...

lol, It may not be cheaper than the PS2 when it first came out but in Playstation official magazine (Or was it a TV program ? I can't remember which) A man who works at sony said :
Quote: | "The PS3 uses much simpler technology to create games and the console which makes it cheaper to produce, Although officially no price has been set I imagine it will be much cheaper than the PS2, which used more complex technology which was more expensive to produce" |
