For all you non-Canadians out there, some background on the Spaceys

http://www.spacecast.com/spaceys05/index.asp

The "Spaceys" are a series of somewhat satirical awards for the best of science fiction and fantasy television, run by Space: The Imagination Station, which is a Canadian sci-fi/fantasy channel. Nominees for the various categories are proposed, and voted upon, then the winners get presented a nice cement alien head.

The Space Choice categories, voted by Space, are available here:
http://www.spacecast.com/spaceys05/spacechoice.asp

There are also viewer's choice categories. The nominees are (my vote in italics):

Favourite TV Series

  • Alias
  • Enterprise
  • Lost
  • Smallville
  • Stargate SG-1

This was a tough category. I like Enterprise, but I know that I prefer Stargate SG-1 to it, and I've only recently started watching Smallville.

Favourite Canadian TV Series

  • Andromeda
  • The Collector
  • Mutant X
  • Stargate Atlantis
  • Stargate SG-1

Once again, SG-1 takes it. Andromeda suffers from having a nice story, but the acting isn't good enough and the humour is a little too camp for my tastes. The same goes for Mutant X. I loved the first season of The Collector, but it cannot compare to SG-1, just as Atlantis has potential but has not expanded into it.

Now let me ask you a serious question: how many of you knew those shows were "Canadian?"

Favourite Limited TV Series

  • Battlestar Galactica
  • The 4400
  • Kingdom Hospital
  • Regenesis

This came down to BSG or The 4400. I am surprised that Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars is not present (a dead winner), but I know the reason: it just aired this March for Canadians, so I doubt there would be as many people familiar with it. After watching all six parts of The 4400 on Good Friday, I think I like it better than BSG only because I know that I can like the BSG TV series and remain loyal

Favourite Male TV Character

  • Commander Adama
  • Captain Archer
  • Lex Luthor
  • Jack O'Neill
  • Morgan Pym

O'Neill takes this category, he could out-favourite all those others together. Although I like all the other characters, no one is funnier and cooler than O'Neill except perhaps Crichton from Farscape (and even then, it would be a tough call). Muwahahahahaha. (Yes, I'm crazy)

Favourite Female TV Character

  • Sydney Bristow
  • Kate
  • Lana Lang
  • Number 6
  • T'Pol

Another tough choice. I don't watch Alias or Lost, so those first two characters are not an option. Lana Lang is okay, but I'm not sure I've seen enough of Smallville to choose her over the others. The character of Number 6 is intriguing, however in some episodes she's been overplayed. Lastly, we come to T'Pol. In seasons 1 and 2, and in 4, I like her character. Season 3 was more . . . meh . . . the T'Pol/Trip storyline was a big temporal mistake. In this case, I'm willing to overlook it.

Favourite Movie Villain

  • Chucky
  • Doc Ock
  • Drake (Dracula)
  • Laurel Hedare
  • Elle Driver

I did not vote in this category because I have not seen Seed of Chucky, Spider-Man 2, Blade: Trinity, Catwoman, or Kill Bill: Vol 2.

Favourite Movie Hero

  • Captain Franky Cook
  • Hellboy
  • Mr. Incredible
  • Shaun
  • Spider-Man

Of their respective movies, I've only seen Hellboy and Spider-Man (the original), and Hellboy beats Spider-Man any time. All of the above heroes have part of their name appear in the title of their movie, curiously enough.

Favourite Video Game

  • Burnout 3: Takedown
  • Far Cry
  • GTA: San Andreas
  • Half-Life 2
  • Halo 2

I did not vote in this category because I have no played any of these video games.

Favourite Move

  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • The Incredibles
  • I, Robot
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Dawn of the Dead
  • The Day After Tomorrow
  • Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • Team America
  • Hellboy
  • Shrek 2

I didn't want to vote for Hellboy necessarily, but of those movies, it and I, Robot are the only ones I've seen. :/ In my opinion, Spider-Man 2 will probably win, or Harry Potter.
