^HORRIBLE graphics? HORRIBLE? My dear friend, they are GREAT graphics--especially for their time! No, no, leave them the way they were meant to be. Don't change the great Original Trilogy in any way. Just don't. You don't mess with these things.

As I already said, no one is forcing you to watch the new editions. Simply turn away and watch the old tapes. Don't mess this up for the fans who do want revisions.

Oh, yeah, right, so now I shouldn't be standing in the way of those who want to change the movies from how they were meant to be? Oh yeah, that's nice I don't care if I wouldn't watch them--I think that we should keep them the way they are. It kind of makes me think of this like the Gay Marriage debate...

Did you ever stop to think that maybe not EVERYONE thinks this is the way the movies were meant to be? Lucas obviously doesn't or he wouldn't keep going back and changing them. What? Your on some personal quest to stop the changes? Thats the type of fans I don't like. They moan and complain that the PT sucks. So what do they go do? Watch Episode III ten times. They moan and complain that the OT shouldn't be changed, but they still go out and buy the new editions. Hypocrites.

First, I think he made the special editions to make them the way they were meant to be, and now that's happened, and since that's happened, it's the way it should stay. He's only changed them MILDLY since then, adding in a new voice for Boba Fett to coincide with the prequals (which I don't really like) and add the Anakin image at the end of ROTJ, which I DEFINTELY do not like. I don't think that PT sucks. I think it's good, just not mostly as good as the originals. And so we wouldn't be able to help but get new editions--what do you expect from Star Wars fans?
And by your logic we should go back and fix the mistakes in Shakespeare's writings, right?

Are you comparing Shakespeare's writings to Star Wars? Thats not healthy at all. Exactly. Lucas has only made some MILD changes. Which is all I was suggesting being made. Also, I'm not just talking about the OT, but the PT. You can't help but get the new editions? Well thats not my problem. You shouldn't rush out to buy it, because you "can't help it". It doesn't change the fact that you're buying them. OT Purists are messing it up for the other fans and thats selfish. SW belongs to ALL the fans. You have your "perfect" OT, and we'll take the new "flawed" OT.

Some people do. Take the Klingon Hamlet for example. This Shakespeare guy mistakenly wrote in English, we're just exposing humanity to the "true" version.

There's one key difference there: Shakespeare is dead, Lucas is not. A dead guy usually gets more respect than anyone living.

I would be dead opposed to any revisions in the Star Wars saga if Lucas were not at the helm, because when it comes down to it, they are his creations, like it or not. We cannot really go and revise Shakespeare's writings because we don't know what he intended for them.

Lucas, however, is still alive and thus has the marvellous opportunity, and the ability, to manipulate his previous creations to his own will. If he wants to do this, all the more power to him. I'm not particularly enamoured with the concept, but it is ultimately Lucas' decision, for better or for worse. Not to mention, I don't particularly care.

1. SELFISH to want to preserve SW the way it is? NO, it's NOT.
2. Fine, Tach, you're right that it's better if he's at the helm making the changes than not. I just think it would really be a BAD thing if he made more changes, adding more clips. Manipulating clips is one thing, but ADDING stuff, more than just a new planet in the celebration? No. If he does it, though, which I doubt he will, I would guess that it wouldn't be TOO bad, but he really shouldn't. No, he shouldn't, and he had better not.

I agree with founder, just some tweaks. The lightsaber parts so seem "slow" and "Clumsy" to me. And there dont seem to be much "Connection" to the OT and the NT. I mean, characters that are in both trilogys dont seem to rember each other (I know Obi and Darth do, although that seems a little "distant" to me after seeing them fight in ep III) things like that. Though some things to fix (such as the lightsaber parts) would basicly have to be refilmed)

Also, RM, im not sure if someone said somthing as i didnt read all post yet, but "Trilogy" is a set of 3 films (planned, not "hey that made all kinds of money, lets make another part") that all go together as a story

I'm split both ways on this.

From a Star Wars point of view, I don't think it could hurt to add or edit little bits of the film as long as it doesn't interfere with the original effect.

However, at the same time you don't want to diminish the saga's position as a series of film classics.

One thing I would like to see are the deleted scenes from the OT that I had hoped might be in the recently released DVD box set. Apparently scenes involving C-3P0 releasing Wampa's from inside Echo Base and a Mon Calamari Cruiser going one-on-one against a Star Destroyer during the Battle of Endor were cut. So I've heard anyway - no idea if any of it is actually true...it would be good to see though

Yes it is selfish, because you're saying the OT should stay the way YOU want them to. I don't want them that way. Neither does Lucas apparently. Thats why he keeps ADDING more. There is nothing wrong with adding more. I already told you that nothing is forcing you to buy the new DVDs.

As Delta said, they should keep their positions as classics. It's NOT selfish, just trying to maintain that position

First of all Delta ALSO said it wouldn't hurt to add more. Second of all, you have yet to counter any of my arguments. All you say is: "its not SELFISH". No proof why it shouldn't change or why you can't just NOT buy it.

What proof can you get!?!? It's a matter of what level of fan you are--a seriously devoted fan that doesn't want changes, or a huge fan that does? But I think that this is just opinion. I think it would be WRONG to go through and add clips in the fights, etc. It's not how it's meant to be.

My point is (*points to founder* "And I don't think I'm Alone here").. that after seeing episodes 1,2,3 certain things are to "slugish" (like the light sabers), thats basicly all I want to see happpen
