PostSat May 14, 2005 2:14 pm    Should Archer become an Admiral?

Should Archer become an Admiral? Has be proven that he has what it takes after everthing that happened on Enterprise? With the NX-01 now be decomissioned, should Archer be given another command or a desk job back on earth?

I wish he could get admril and still command a starship because I know he would rather explore than be at a desk I don't see that at all. this is off topic a wee bit but on the final episode when Trip died I thought that was over the top for emotional affect it did make me sad but heck I was already sad with what happened to the show they didn't need to add that to.

Some info that appeared in a profile onscreen, posted by the writer of the episode on a website:

Quote:
Posted by Mike Sussman:
For those who are curious, here's the complete text I created for the Archer/Hoshi on-screen bios. Some of the text on-screen was taken directly from the Star Trek.com bios on the characters; this is the stuff I made up.

STARFLEET PERSONNEL FILE: Archer, Jonathan
Serial Number: SA-022-9237-CY

Rank at retirement: Admiral, Chief of Staff, Starfleet Command
Former Assignments:
Commanding officer, Enterprise NX-01, 2150-2160
Ambassador to Andoria, 2169-2175
Federation Councilman, 2175-2183
President, UFP 2184-2192
Birthplace: Upstate New York, North America, Earth
Parents: Henry and Sally Archer

Son of famed warp specialist Henry Archer, Jonathan Archer was appointed captain of Starfleets first warp five starship, Enterprise NX-01. As an explorer and peacemaker, his name is among the most recognized in the Federation, and his pioneering voyages aboard the Enterprise are known to school children on dozens of worlds, many of which were unknown to humans in Archers lifetime. Historian John Gill called Archer the greatest explorer of the 22nd Century. Archer earned an impressive list of commendations during his career, including a Medal of Valor, with clusters, the Star Cross, the Preantares Ribbon of Commendation, and the Federation Citation of Honor. Archer was also appointed an honorary member of the Andorian Guard by General Thylek Shran in 2164. Hes the only human to have two planets named in his honor: Archers Planet in the Gamma Trianguli sector, and Archer IV, which orbits 61 Ursae Majoris. Archer IV was the first M-Class world charted by the famous explorer. Although the planet was uninhabitable throughout the 22nd Century due to toxic pollen in the atmosphere, an antidote to the pollen was discovered early in the 2200s. Today, the population of Archer IV numbers more than seven hundred million.

When I wrote this, I assumed the text wouldn't be legible (silly me). There are probably some errors in here. One I can spot -- Archer took command of Enterprise in 2151, not 2150. Some of this text would seem to be contradicted by the finale (which obviously had not been written yet). The name Sally, unless I'm mistaken, is also the name of Scott Bakula's mother.

Archer died peacefully in his home in upstate New York in the year 2245, exactly one day after attending the christening ceremony of the first Federation Starship Enterprise, NCC-1701.

Yeah, he would've been old, but pretty close to McCoy's age in "Encounter at Farpoint."

This is the text I created for Hoshi's bio:

STARFLEET PERSONNEL FILE: SATO, HOSHI
Serial Number: SA-037-0198-CL
Rank at retirement: Lieutenant Commander
Former Assignment: Communications and Protocol officer, Enterprise NX-01
Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan, Earth

Hoshi Sato served as translator, and protocol and communications officer on Starfleets first warp five starship, Enterprise NX-01. Born in Kyoto, Japan on July 9th, 2129, she was the second child in a family of three. After leaving Starfleet in her late thirties, Sato created the linguacode translation matrix, which is still in use aboard Federation starships today.

Tragically, Hoshi and her family were among the four thousand people who died on Tarsus Four in 2246 when a food shortage caused by an exotic fungus threatened the colonys population. Governor Kodos ordered the deaths of Sato and the others in order to save the rest of the colony. She was buried in Kyoto with her husband, Takashi Kimura.

Archer was evil. He stole a warp drive from those people in the expanse (not the xindi, some random research people) so that it would take the people 3 years to get home.

So of course he should become Admiral

He would deserve it but you know, some people are so good at their job that it's a crime to promote them. Take Kirk and Picard - they were far too good to be sitting behind a desk. They were far more effective out there in space...

Its really shocked me how many people think he should become an admiral!

I don't think he should because he seems too much of a space hog and it seems to be his way or no way.

He does get to be an admiral it seems. Interesting note, (this is from unused material in the ENT Mirror Episode[s])

Archer Dies one day after the christining of the first federation starhip USS Enterprise NCC-1701

Yeah it was in a piece of text not readable on screen. It is unlikely but possible that Archer would become 133 (McCoy becomes 138 years old). It's possible if you see what the oldest age today is (around 115). It's only 18 years extra. Without exhaust fumes and other stuff that could shorten your life he could make that extra 18 years. He would've certainly made the launch of Daedalus which was after NX-01. T'Pol would've easily reached this age. BTW the christening of the 1701 doesn't mean Kirk was there. He would've been 12 years old. What would he have been doing there in the first place. It's more likely that Archer spoke to Robert April, Enterprise's first captain.

Yeah, the 1701's first captain was Robert April, so if archer talked to anyone, it would have been Rpbert apirl. then, the next day (one day EXACTLY) Archer passed away

Im sure that archer still met kirk whatever lower rank he was at the time, because kirk was very well known at starfleet academy.

As for archer, yeah he should become a admiral (despite that he was in the starfleet database) he earned the spot.

He saved earth from destruction, and stealing a warpdrive was mandantory for archer to succeed in the mission in saving earth from the xindi.Im sure starfleet would have excepted that situation at that time.

Not an admiral: Ambassador.
