PostThu Mar 24, 2005 4:31 pm    Finding Planets

So I marked possible planets on this picture of a galaxy that is not our own.

If i'm correct then those I circled on the picture are planets.

Er . . . I don't think that planets can be spotted from a galaxy by the light they reflect, I think you've circled stars, not planets. Perhaps there are planets that orbit around the stars you circled though.

I believe that too. Plus the large stars you made a square around probably don't have any planets at all, the star is way too big for that, especially the big Blue one near the centre which is probably as big or bigger than our entire solar system!

Plus, the galactic Center is not a Star.

The two brightest stars (in squares) are actually stars in our galaxy. This puts them in the extreme foreground of this image. The giveaway is the plus-shaped highlights.

Really? that sounds logical indeed. He, learned something new today.

Correct. We can't detect planets very well. We have to observe stars and look at how they "wobble"

Stars actually move slightly because of the pull the planets have on them as they orbit, and if we can detect this movement, we can assume it's being caused by a planet.

The only planets we have been able to discover are those the size of Jupiter or larger, and are VERY close to the star, as in mercury/venus close to the star, and until we have the technology to detect much smaller movements, then this is what we're going to have to deal with for a while.

Finding an earth-like planet in the near future is a long shot by far.

BTW, the Galactic Center is NOT a star.

The current theory is that it's a MASSIVE black hole.

But WHY IS ALL THAT LIGHT THERE!>!>??!!IONEELEVNETTY! bLACK HOLES DON'T GIVE LIGHT, ligHT CAN't EXCA[PE!! you might ask? Well, it's not actually light, it's interstellar dust covering the black hole that is reflecting the light you see. It's actually so thick that we can't get a clear picture of what's inside it (we can pick up some radiation, but not much), but the way it acts and how stars around it act is what gives us the clues as to whats inside of it.

i actually believe its Pure energy, not a black hole at all.

As opposed to . . . impure energy?

I think the idea of a supermassive black hole makes sense. (Since "black holes are where God divided by zero" ). The sheer amount of matter and energy at the galactic centre during the formation of the galaxy led to its implosion and creation of an enlarged version of what a normal black hole would look like. It would be an enormous gravity well around which our entire galaxy revolves.

My black hole knowledge isn't up to speed, lately, but don't larger black holes evaporate more quickly? Or was it smaller black holes?

Now, what does that actually mean??

Energy doesn't just sit there, and it has to come from something. No offense, but what you said doesn't make much sense.

And a Black Hole does?

i just mean its a very, very large Concentration of energy, so hot and big that the energy inside Is almost Pure(almost eternal, perfect).
I see it as the Energy core, the source. Much like a fire, the one place the galaxy gets its fuel from.

If that is true(the pic i mean) then there's a good chance alien life is out there... which I want.

Just to let you know, the Discovery channel says that science have found out that every galaxy has a Supermassive Black Hole in it's center, including our own galaxy!!! It's hard to explain... But it has been proven!

That's a foolish assumption: we haven't even seen every galaxy!

The reason they say that is because that they have found out that; believe it or not; it's the black holes which creates the galaxys and give them the spin!!!

I actaully also beleive that the core is the source of the galaxy. I believe that every Galaxy has had a "big bang" and this creating the stars and planets in a spiral form around it. In a while though the core will suck all the energy it shot out with the big bang up again and then there will be another big bang. And so on. But i don't beleive the core is a black hole, just a large amount of Energy together, with enough gravity too pull the entire galaxy slowely back inside.

Thats my theory of the creation of the galaxies. Where the cores came from i don't know, but its a lot more logical than the Big Big bang

How can it be more logical than the Big Bang if you can't even explain all aspects of your theory? Not to mention, you have no mathematical backing for any theory you've made up that I've read on this board.

And, just to let you know, the keyboard you're typing on right now is a "large concentration of energy." All matter is is a large concentration of energy. Energy IS matter. You can't argue that. It's been tested and it's been proven. Just look at our friends over in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

What do you mean by "eternally perfect" energy. All energy and all matter is eternal, mandated by the law of conservation of matter and energy. It's the backbone of modern day science!

What makes you believe anything that you post? I'm curious, because so far you haven't convinced me of ANY of your theories.

The picture isn't true.

There ARE planets out there. Several. They aren't shown accurately on this map however. The main reason being you cannot SEE them on the map. Go up and read my post, it briefly explains why, but if you want a one phrase answer then: planets are too small.

No, it hasn't. If I remember correctly and I think I do remember seeing this documentary, they made a logical inference as to black holes being the center of every galaxy.

Like webtaz said, we haven't seen every galaxy and there's a lot of strange stuff out there, so who knows.

Man, why are you dissing my theory like that? its just what i believe, just like you believe some other theory that has just a much proven facts as mine.

They started on the Core of the Galaxy calling it a Black Hole, a black hole is Gravity that sucks up all energy, what i believe is that it actually is just that. energy, very, very highly concentrated, very dense. Like a huge star. So big and pure that by some people its discribed as eternal, centainly compared too our lifes.

What has a Nuclear Device got too do with anything? all i'm saying is that the Core is energy, All the energy of the Galaxy stacked up together. In due time it will Suck up all the Stars, Nebulea's, Planets and Energy that it blasted out so many millions of years ago back into the center which will result in a new "Big Bang".

what is sooooo hard to get? what is soooooo hard to believe?

Are you talking about the "Big Shrink"?

If so, that's not your theory buddy. It's been around for quite some time now.

You can't proof stuff like that. You can only guess, the thing that comes closest too what most people can live with shall be used. I can't live with it though...
