... and bad spelling... does anyone agree that there are so many mistakes in Voyager books... it's almost embarrassing! Does no-one proof read these books before they get published!

I've read 5 Voyager books and have a load more to read... I got about 10 for Christmas... overload!

The thing that gets me is the number of continuity errors between the books. I'm not the most picky of people but some of them are blatently obvious...speaking of which I can't remember since I abandoned reading Trek books a while ago in favour of Star Wars lol...more pages for your money& alot less of the said continuity errors.

Many of the authors of Trek books also seem to have a basic vocabulary, and stick to that. The only thing I remember from the novelization of 'Day of Honor' is how often 'growled' was used.

I notice an error here and there, but I dont often read Voyager books. They get edited, but you cant possibly find all the errors in a 200 or 300 page book.

They just need better editors. Most good editors would catch the mistakes.

I agree. I see alot of errors in Trek books. They need to do better than they do.

According to my English teacher, the phrase "To boldly go" is bad grammar because an adverb (boldly) should go after the verb (go).

Yeah, "to boldly go" is splitting the infinitive. "To" and "go" are meant to be together.

I remember when I was at school and my English teacher was always going on about split infinitives (in retrospect she should have been more worried about split ends I think but never mind about that) and she always used Star Trek as an example...

Ya, made me kinda upset. In Homecoming and The Farther Shore, there's one. Homecoming says everyone came down with the "Xakarian Flu." But in The Farther Shore, it changes to the "Xanarian Flu."
I don't know how they missed that error.

The noble custom of proof-reading seems indeed to have been abolished
However, if you have ever read the German translation of any Trek novel, you'll be happy about the English one's typos. Seriousely.
I am atm reading a book that in many passages still uses the raw translation the translater made as a first draft. It's highly annoying! I am a fast reader and these passages slow me down- it's like tripping, mentally. I edit these passages so that next time I read the book I needn't freak out.

Well, I've noticed that Gerron often get his name wrong-spelled. Even Jeri Taylor has misspelled his name.

As for continuity errors, odd things and contradictions, there are a lot of them which I have tried to alalyze here:

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Park/1964/bookreviews.html

But despite that, i find most of the Voyager books highly entertaining, in fact most of the books are better than many TV-episodes.

Books like "The Black Shore" and "Marooned" are masterpieces!
