I think we should redo the space program. Get people excitied like they were back in the 60's. Give people something to be proud of in our country, and something to dream about and look foward to.

Well, it should be improved, but also, some internal problems should be fixed first

We need to see what's out there--to expand our horizons. I think that we should greatly allow the expansion of private enterprises getting involved in the space industry, like they've begun to do, and I even think that this is important enough that perhaps the government should increase spending for it, and make it a better system overall.

I think that we should spend money on improving the life of the ppl on our planet! The whole space thing isn't that much of a big deal.

It wouldn't actually take that much money to help thousands of people across the globe. I am very torn on this subject: I would rather we sorted out the environmental issues than the humanitarian issues but I want to be an astronaught!
I would love to be the first woman on Mars... but I'd feel guilty because the space program led to the extintion of a breed of sparrow... and the amount of pollution it all makes can't be all that good for the world

I actually believe that if we all would focus on Space exploration we will all grow closer together, since we are all into it. we are all on the same planet.
Once we find E.T life we are bound too get together, too many movies have proven it!
I could see the whole world behind the television watching Mans first step on a different planet, or First Contact.

I'm hoping that private space exploration all over the globe will take over nasa's efforts and then our exploration will become a more world wide contribution instead of just an american nasa thing. Not so long ago a privately funded and built space craft lifted into orbit carrying a single man crew so the future is looking bright for pirvately funded exploration.

I believe that we should spend money on space exploration. My reason is that there are hundreds of stars and planets and some of them might have resources on them we could use, like iron ore or something like that. Plus we could colonize some of the planets.

But why take to the sky when there are so many things still undiscovered here on earth? I saw this program where these people went into unexplored territory of the Amazon rainforest and with one scoop of a net discovered 20 different species of fish. The cure for cancer or AIDS could be right on our doorstep without us even knowing it!

What about the parts of the world that are too poor to have clean water, let alone television?

I think that we must first stop making war and helping the poor. Then we can see what`s next...

Yeah, that would be logical. It's more productive to finish stuff you've started before you move onto the next thing.

I think more money should go into space programs. But more like in a world wide sense. Not just america. and the money should mainly go into research to try and create or figure out a way to make space flight cheaper, to create faster engines, artificial gravity etc etc.

One of my strongest reasons for supporting the development of viable space initiatives is that space offers more resources to help humanity expand and survive. Natural resources on planets and asteroids, exposure to new opportunities, not to mention the possibility (no matter how slim) of contact with sentient life. We won't know until we get out there.

I'm just saying that a Trek fan should, IMO, support space exploration. After all, that's what it's all about, right?
And, as HH laid out, space exploration WOULD improve the life of people one our planet.

This planet will be incapable of sustaining life eventualy. Question is, "When?"
Should we spend money the find out it was usless or bulid ships in the near future to find another suitable place to live?
Both is all good.. I think equal efforts maybe? I don't know how effective that will be though.

You can support space exploration but still think it's important to help people, you know. And what if we get up there and discover that the universe is just full of dusty rocks?

Give me a break. I don't care about that... I have better things too do.
Yeah, i said it. So? At least i'm man enough too admit it. But i believe that when the time comes we set foot on Mars the world is a better place for More people than now. Thats what really matters.
Reminds me of an Commercial where you see TV images of Horrific suffering in Africa and all those places and all the people just switch the channel too something happy. The commercial ends with the quote: "Who cares?"
