I'm having this convo with Danni atm. Ever notice how quickly people label you for what they think you believe? I have a friend on here that is called a "liberal" because of his views on 2 issues, though on nearly everything else he's conservative.
I just find this very amusing, and very shortsighted of people.

I think the following word should be shot, hung, stricken from every language, and then buried in a very, very, very, very, very deep hole:
semantics
It's simply astounding how many arguments degenerate into an argument over a "definition" or, as you pointed out, a label. Simply mind-boggling how we can go around the same issue several times, beating the argument to death, all over a matter of wordplay.

"Labelling is for items, not people." I can't remember who said that, but whoever it was got it down to a T. We all do it, sometimes unintentionally, sometimes deliberately, but we should all try not to. With politics, labels are just silly. There are very few people who have views that fit neatly into one label. It's the great thing about being individuals. You can like certain things, dislike others, agree with some issues, disagree with others, whether those issues (which are not people, so I'm labelling them) are considered to be conservative, liberal, right wing, left wing, facist, racist, etc.
Can we lay off the labelling a bit?

Hm. Labelling gets even more fun when you get into religion. I mentioned to what is now a very good friend of mine that I was Christian in the first ten minutes of our conversation...he informed me that we should stay away from talking about philosophy, then, since I was obviously too devout to participate. Three months later, philosophy is our main topic of most discussions. Heh...that was great.

Deb is pretty fond of calling me a Liberal. But I don't mind. I stand by what I believe in.

fond? No! It like I want to label. I do it by accidents sometimes. But I also stand what I believe too. We are different that's a good thing

Everybody 'labels', even though some don't want to admit it. It's in our instinct to devide people into categorys. It just is. Just like we have prejudices. Some people are better in recognizing that with themselves, some aren't.

Yeah I know. I see myself do it sometimes too, really weird. Though I just try to be concious of what I do and say, always think: what am I saying? What am I trying to achieve?

i don't really label people. But if your Name is for example "republican_Man" you are just asking for it. (no offense RM)
I might have labelled 'Founder' though... I'm not so sure if that was a bad thing, i think i was right wit the labels.
I'm labelled too here, many times. Some might call me a Fascist, some call me Brilliant. I particulary like the last one .
I'm actually a Humanistic, Universalistic Budhist . I don't believe in Buddha, but i share their beleives a bit appearently.

Yeah, my mum used to make me go to these awful holiday club things and I walked in the room on the second day wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt and this girl came up to me and went "Hey, I thought you were a goth?"And I was like "What made you think that?"
"You were wearing a black t-shirt yesterday. You can't change overnight and go from being a goth into some kind of dragstrip hotrod thing!"
"I'm just wearing my clothes. I didn't realise I was going to be labelled as anything."
"Well maybe you should think more about what you wear. You might end up offending someone if one second you're a goth and the next you're not."
what a freak! I was just wearing my clothes!!!!

I label people. I don't shout it in thier faces though. (have no intentions of offending anyone here.... ) But when I think of republicans, I think of Bible Thumpers. Democrats, I think of open minded individuals....
Gothic people, I think of pale, kinda smelly, but brave and don't give a rats a$$ what others think. And I can respect that! lol.
Anyway... just to give you of an idea.

In English class, we're reading Macbeth. Today I labelled the "Old Man" in Act II, Scene 4, as a "witch" because he "knew things." I then went on to label my fun English teacher a "witch" and suggest that we weigh her to see if she weighs the same as a duck.
