Because although that would deter illegal immigrants, people would die. We can't have that on our hands. But that is far from what we are saying. Or at least me.

Breaking the law is breaking the law. There may be mitigating circumstances, yes, but it's wrong. There are better ways to help these people, but let's just let them all here. Yes, most American's are immigrants, but legal. There's a reason for laws, there's a reason for borders, we can't just dismiss all of that because we feel bad for the people fleeing. You can't say that everyone crossing into the US illegally is doing it completely because they fear oppression. That may well be the majority, but it isn't the absolute.

Is it racist to deport people who come here illegally? No is the Answer
Is it wrong to fire people from their jobs because they are illegal immigrants? No is the answer
Is protecting America from terrorist important? YES
Should we secure our borders in anyway possible? YES

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the U.S. borders are not secure enough. We need to place more security on the border to protect the citizens of the USA.

The U.S. need to deport illegal immigrants as I have said earlier. Deporting could stop terrorist because theres that chance of deporting the terrorist off this country.

What can the U.S. do with the illegal immigrants crossing the borders?
1 - The U.S. must tell the Mexican Government or even threaten the Mexican Government too stop helping Illegals cross the borders.
2 - The Mexican Army must stop helping the Illegals cross the borders.
3 - We need to help the Mexican Government in a way that their economy can get better and so many people would not have to cross to the U.S. Illegally.
4 - The U.S. needs to pressure the Mexican President Vincente Fox to make good reforms for Mexico. Reforms that would rid Mexico of corrupt law enforcements, and better the way of life by lowering the amount of people in poverty.

Relative to historic trends, immigration is not that high but it has dramatically increased in recent years. Nearly 900,000 persons are being legally admitted annually. Estimates are that illegal immigration add another 200,000 to 300,000 people per year. 43 percent of all illegal aliens live in California. In California, 21.7 percent of the population is foreign-born, illegal immigrants make-up 4.7 percent.

Quote:
Immigration is a contentious issue in the United States currently, and particularly in California. Why all the fuss? In the last few decades we have seen rising numbers of immigrants, both legal and illegal. The massive inflow of immigrants, especially hispanics, has had profound impacts on our economic, social, and political systems. California recently passed Proposition 187 which essentially eliminated access to social services for most illegal immigrants. We will look at some of the facts of immigration and analyze immigrants' impact on the economy.

Certainly better options than just throwing the borders open, IMO.

Agreed. Theresa, thanks for putting out that info. And yes, Borgslayer, those are some good ideas that we need to do--but the government won't do it.

Okay. In the way of border security we need quite a bit more. However I'm confused, we're so worried about the mexicans illegally comming to america, but what about the cubans who jump off the boats in the middle of the ocean and swim to the shores of florida. We don't throw them back.

Actually, we changed that policy. Now we do.

You mean they get a free ride for swimming?

Personally, I don't think the method of entry matters.

They let illegals GO AWAY INSIDE of the country, you know. Law enforcement (police) officers have contacted immigration services and only let them go, pending a hearing!
And 1/3 of the nation's prisons are filled with people here ILLEGALLY (according to a Fmr. high-up working for Fmr. Attorney General John Ashcroft when he was Attorney General).
Our internal policies are lacked, and we NEED to do something about it.

I have 4 questions for you, Founder:
1. What's the definition of illegal?
2. What you have us do with those people who broke our laws to get in here, hmm?
3. What is a federal crime (definition)?
4. Are you opposed to the President of a leading Hispanic organization calling the "governator," as many call him, a racist for wanting to better secure our borders?
Come on now, no hiding under your desk

1. My definition of an Illegal Alien or act? I wasn't disputing that these people are illegal. I agree that they are, but the punishments offered are a little much. Even in the name of "protecting ourselves".
2. I think if they have been here for many years and made a life for themselves, they should be given amnesty. They should work to get a green card here in America under better conditions. Although that can only be done if they have amnesty and are allowed to stay. Because it would be unusual for an "American citizen" to be petitioning for a Green Card.
3. A crime that occurs on US property or a crime that is made illegal by Federal officials. Whats your point? Are you asking is this a federal crime? Somewhat....I think if they come over here to cause trouble yes, but to make a better life? Nope.
4. I don't think Arnold is a racist. Although he is an idiot. I mean he once made a comment about not wanting immigrants to come over here. Its like "WTF do you think you are Arnold?" Besides what you call "securing our borders" others call keeping a immigrants out of this nation.

The definition of ILLEGAL. The word ILLEGAL. Because that's what they are, sadly. ILLEGAL.

2. I think if they have been here for many years and made a life for themselves, they should be given amnesty. They should work to get a green card here in America under better conditions. No. That is NOT right. Okay, so they've lived here for a while. No. That should NOT mean that they should get amnesty. Then more immigrants would come in and wait a while, basically only INCREASING illegal immigration. Until our borders are secure, we can't allow amnesty. And there is a DIFFERENCE between someone who is a LEGAL CITIZEN and an ILLEGAL ALIEN. That comparison, my friend, is just, simply, ludicrous.

3. A crime that occurs on US property or a crime that is made illegal by Federal officials. Whats your point? Are you asking is this a federal crime? Somewhat....I think if they come over here to cause trouble yes, but to make a better life? Nope.

No. I'm asking if you know what the definition of a Federal Crime is, because THAT is what they have committed. Pity you don't see that.

What? That's not it. He came here LEGALLY. FOLLOWING THE LEGAL PROCESS. He is now a LEGAL American CITIZEN, and therefore he has EVERY right to be concerned, and ever right to argue this, and is NOT an idiot. He is NOT saying that he doesn't want immigrants to come over here--just that he wants to stop the flow of ILLEGAL immigration.

1. How many times do I have to say it before you acknowledge it? I'm not disputing that they are illegal. Here let me say it again. I'm not disputing that they are illegal. So why do you keep bringing that up? My point is that this whole "Illegal cleansing" thing is going too far. These people are not demonic little monsters that are plagueing the lives of "Legal Americans". This is just being very melodramatic. "These people must be stopped now! Our way of life is being threatened!" You know what organization used to say that? I'll give you a hint. K- -K. Fill in the blank. I'm not saying you all are racists but you're going too far. The only law they broke was coming here illegally. I'm sorry they are "stealing" the oppurtunity to mow lawns, sell fruits on the highway, clean your car, and work at fast food restuarants from you. I know how much you all really needed those jobs. No matter what you say, I will never say that these people are evil for coming here and they are not a threat to us. The open borders? That is a threat. Them? NO.

2. Ok, maybe they shouldn't be given amnesty. I don't think they should be deported though. Maybe they can be forced to pay a VERY large fine and then are required to get Green Cards. Other than that, I do not support sending them back. I'll never forget the whole Elin Gonzlez issue. The boy's mother died to get him into this country and for what? Only to have him sent back by "please me in the Oral Office Clinton and Man-Woman Reno." Are they evil for trying to get into this country? Did the mother, who died, threaten the lives of American Security?

3. I don't see it because your questions are vague. Besides, I answered that question. Again, I didn't say they did not commit a federal crime.

4. Ok, well like I said, I did not say he was a racist. What is it you want me to say about him? Does he have the right to complain? Yes he does. Do I agree with him. No I don't.

Alright, let me respond to these attacks that are mischaracterizing my opinions.
1. Fine, I see that you realize the definition of illegal. But you also need to realize that the law must be enforced. You don't seem to realize that.
2. I am NOT being melodramatic. This is a HUGE issue, one of the BIGGEST of our day. We have to do something about it. Do I think that our life is being threatened by people coming in for jobs, etc? Not entirely. Our economy is on the line, but I LIKE the fact that we have Mexicans in here. It is ENRICHING our society in that sense. However, I do NOT want LAWBREAKERS not to be punished.
3. If they have been here for a long time, then don't deport them, etc, though.
4. Founder, forgive me, but by saying the KKK thing, you ARE calling me and Borgslayer and others like us racist. Besides, there is a DIFFERENCE between what we're saying and what the KKK said/says! I just don't understand why you can't see that.
5. I understand that the majority of illegal immigrants are coming here for a better life, etc. And that's meritable. But the fact is that they are BREAKING THE LAW and we HAVE to do something about it. It scares me that you don't see that.

1. Put them in jail for a while, etc, and that's okay. At least those that have been here for 3 years or something--MAYBE. Those 5 years or more, I would consider giving them a very large fine. Problem is, though, illegal immigration would INCREASE. And that's not a good thing.
2. Are they being evil for trying to get into this country? The VAST majority of them, NO. Was she a threat to American security? No. But have you heard about all the MURDERS of Americans BY illegal aliens? A few weeks or couple months ago Bill O'Reilly reported on this. A man's daughter was murdered by one, and just recently, a woman was murdered, and her family taunted, by an Illegal Immigrant mascarading as a powerwasher for decks. Many of these people ARE threats, such as that, and so we HAVE to do more than what we are doing, both internally AND externally.

3. I don't see it because your questions are vague. Besides, I answered that question. Again, I didn't say they did not commit a federal crime.

But you have continually been saying that they shouldn't get punished. Finally, the fine at least says SOMETHING, but nonetheless. You only think that they should get fined for greencards. Not punished for breaking a law.

4. Ok, well like I said, I did not say he was a racist. What is it you want me to say about him? Does he have the right to complain? Yes he does. Do I agree with him. No I don't.

Read that, okay? You think he's an idiot for "commenting about not wanting immigrants to come over here." You are attacking him for wanting to SECURE our borders by calling him an idiot for it. That's not right, and you're wrong there.

RM I'm agreeing with you on the most part. Like it may not seem like it, but I do agree with you. We do need to address this issue. Soon too. Moreso, because of the Terrorist threat. I'm just not sure what the future will bring if we deport all these people and secure the border. We may say we will help with Green Cards, but I'm wary about that.

BTW? I'm NOT calling you a racist. What I meant by that comment was that those people used to say the same thing. We deem what they said was wrong right?
But I apologize of you got that idea.

I've got two commentaries by FOX News' Bill O'Reilly. He's right on on these, but is also giving you some news. We REALLY need to deal with this illegals problem.

www.foxnews.com/oreilly

Bill O'Reilly wrote:
The Battle Over Illegal Immigration Heats Up
Thursday, May 12, 2005
By Bill O'Reilly

The battle over illegal immigration heats up: that is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

First of all, our condolences to the families of Denver detectives John Bishop and Donald Young, both shot, apparently, by a 19-year-old illegal alien who confessed the crime to his girlfriend. The man, Raul Garcia-Gomez, is still at large. Detective Young died.

Now, that terrible crime comes on the heels of a New York housewife being murder by another illegal. We'll get to that in a moment.

But in Washington, the politicians are finally feeling the heat on the illegal issue, as the "Real I.D. Act (search)" passed 100-0 in the Senate. The president will sign it into law shortly. "Real I.D." would require all states to see the birth certificates of anyone applying for driver's licenses. The intent is to keep licenses out of the hands of illegals.

But in New York, State Supreme Court Judge Karen Smith (search) is already defying the spirit of the law. She's ordered the Department of Motor Vehicles not to ask for valid I.D. when issuing licenses.

Can you believe it? Judge Smith says, quote, "DMV cannot be an enforcer for the Department of Homeland Security (search)." Unbelievable. Smith, of course, is disregarding federal law and should lose her position.

Tomorrow, President Bush should call New York Senators Schumer and Clinton into the Oval Office and tell them that if New York State refuses to enforce the Real I.D. Act it will forfeit all federal highway money, period. States cannot continue to defy federal law, period.

Now, back to the illegal alien crime issue. Every sane American knows a majority of illegal aliens are good people. That's not the issue here. If the USA continues to allow millions of people to walk in here illegally, chaos will mount, more people will die. That is definite.

But many in the press simply don't care. Listen to this editorial today by "The Journal News" in Westchester County, near where housewife and mother Mary Nagle (search) was murdered in her own home by an illegal alien last week.

"The Journal News" says, "We hope for the sake of humanity that we are correct in again saying that illegal immigration had nothing to do with this killing. It was committed by a sick individual who could have had any background."

Illegal immigration had nothing to do with the killing? Can you believe these people? If the guy had been deported after his first arrest, Mary Nagle would be alive today. A 5-year-old could figure that out.

The newspaper goes on: "...that the accused in the Mary Nagle murder is an illegal alien does not make all illegal aliens killers or criminals."

Well, that's true and dumb. Nobody thinks all illegals are here to commit crimes, but all illegals do have something in common. They are all illegal! Unfortunately, many in the press, and politics, and on the bench refuse to confront that. And so the chaos and the danger mount.

And that's "The Memo."

Paying the Medical Bills of Illegal Aliens

The Bush administration has just announced that the American taxpayer will provide $1 billion over the next four years to pay illegal alien (search) medical expenses. Unbelievable.

Each state can apply for the federal funds based upon the amount of illegals it has to deal with. California, of course, will get the most money, but the point is the feds recognize the magnitude of the illegal invasion but still won't stop it.

Now, we asked all the border state senators what they would do to stop the chaos. And their answers are very interesting. Dianne Feinstein (search) from California favors federal funding to pay for the incarceration of criminal aliens and more funding for the Border Patrol. California's Barbara Boxer (search) would not answer the question, typical of her. Arizona's John McCain (search) says he has a plan and will make it public soon. Jon Kyl of Arizona also has a plan, but it differs from McCain's. Kyl's plan will be unveiled in June.

John Cornyn of Texas is on board with Kyl's plan, whatever it is. Kay Bailey Hutchison, also from Texas, wants more Border Patrol agents. Jeff Bingaman from New Mexico wants ranchers to be given radios so they can call the Border Patrol and wants more Border Patrol agents. New Mexico's Pete Domenici wants almost $1 billion more to beef up border security.

So there you have it. What do you think? Do you think the politicians have a clue?

Talking Points is not optimistic. There's no serious talk of using the military to back up the Border Patrol. And unless you stop the flood of illegals coming in here every day, all the other stuff's useless. And Americans will continue to pay for the invasion. It's that simple.

And help is not on the way. We conducted an experiment on border interest by giving "Factor" viewers and listeners access to a petition asking for effective border security. About 400,000 of you signed the petition. That's a lot of folks. But since we reach millions every day on radio and TV, the response was not overwhelming. You can view that petition, by the way, by going to www.billoreilly.com.

So what we have here is an unresolved problem that's likely to remain unresolved. The politicians are simply avoiding the issue. And the majority of Americans are OK with that. What more can I say?

And that's The Memo.

Illegal Alien Crime

A micro 9/11: Mary Nagle (search) allegedly killed by an illegal alien. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo."

Mary was a regular American, the mother of two small children, living the dream in the suburbs north of New York City. Last Friday, a power washing company showed up at Mary's house to clean the porch. A few hours later, police say one of the workers, an illegal alien, brutally murdered the 42-year old woman. The man then called the numbers on Mary's cell phone, taunting her family and friends with what he had done.

The alien, 29-year-old Ronald Gerera Castellanos (search), is a Guatemalan, who overstayed his tourist visa four years ago and has been running around ever since. Police arrested him a few hours after Mary was found dead.

In 2002, the guy was arrested for beating up a woman, but the judge let him go. And he skipped his court appearance. Despite that, he was still able to get a job with the washing company because he carried a California driver's license.

So Mary Nagle becomes yet another victim of illegal alien killers. She is no less a victim of our government's failure to protect us than all of those who died on 9/11.

There are thousands of other Mary Nagles you will never hear about because the government doesn't keep statistics on murders by illegals and the liberal press doesn't want to report these kinds of stories.

That's because the media generally supports lenient border policy, driver's licenses for illegals, sanctuary cities, and a "humane policy" for those who come to America illegally.

Now every sane American knows that most illegals are good people, just trying to fight their way out of poverty. "Talking Points" has said that many times.

But sane Americans also know the federal government refuses to enforce the immigration laws. And that puts all of us in danger.

Now we talked with Mary's family. And they're devastated, of course. A six-year old girl and an eight-year old boy will now grow up without a mom. A husband has lost his wife. What more can anyone say?

Most of us are under the illusion that the government will protect us from evil, that the taxes we pay and the people we elect will provide us some security against killers and terrorists.

Sadly, that is not true anymore. At least 11 million people are living here illegally. And nobody knows how many of them are violent. It is long past time for the American people to rise up and demand that all governments enforce the law. No more porous borders, no more sanctuary cities, no more criminal aliens released by apathetic judges.

Unless we the people demand this, more Americans like Mary Nagle will die even as the cowardly politicians and ideological media fiddle while immigration law burns.

And that's "The Memo."

Two of those included murders carried out BY THOSE WHO SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE! Sure, most illegals are good people, but there are many who are not, and we have to stop this problem NOW before even more people die.

It really doesn't make a difference if they shouldn't have been here. They should be punished for their crime like anyone else, not especially because they're illegal. In every society you have people who will commit crimes.

Actually, it DOES. If they weren't here, then detective John Bishop wouldn't have been injured, Donald Young KILLED. If they weren't here, then Mary Nagle's 6 and 8 year old children would have parents. These murders would NOT have happened, and they would still be living had these people not entered this country illegally, nor managed to get by the system.

I realize that by saying this I'm just being facetious, but I do have a valid point to present. You cannot say with any certainty that neither John Bishop nor Donald Young would not have been murdered. You can say that it is probable they would not have been murdered by these particular people, however there is a small possibility that they would have encountered these people elsewhere in another location and get murdered. Considering their line of work, their risk factor is significantly higher than other people.

Que sera, sera . . . whatever will be, will be. The future's not yours or mine to see. Que sera, sera.

I don't believe the people who were killed would still be alive. IMO they would have died anyway. When it is someones time... there is nothing they can do about it.

In a LONG WHILE! Mary Naples' kids would have NOT grown up without a mom (six and eight years old)! How can you both DENY that illegal immigration caused this? That is such a HORRIFYING and WRONG belief. If those illegals weren't there, then this would NOT have happened. Would they have died at some other point? Yes. But now? No, but because these people were here ILLEGALLY, they were murdered, and now a six and an eight year old are left without a mom. How can you SAY such a thing? Horrifying. Simply HORRIFYING.
