|
Quote: | Carvings of this unidentified animal, made by the ancient inhabitants of the Scottish Highlands some 1,500 years ago, are the earliest evidence that Loch Ness harbors a strange aquatic creature. This looks a lot like the stone carvings of the Chupacabra.
The earliest recorded sighting of the Loch Ness Monster was in the biography of St. Columba by Adamnan in the year 565 AD. The monster apparently attacked and killed a man who was swimming in the River Ness.
The monster didn't make headlines again until August 27, 1930 when 3 fishermen reported seeing a disturbance in the water. The men watched as a creature 20 feet long approached their boat throwing water in the air. As it passes them, its wake caused their boat to rock violently.
The men were convinced that the disturbance was caused by a living creature. Following the story, the newspaper received several letters from people claiming also to have seen a strange creature in the Loch.
In 1962 The Loch Ness Investigation Bureau was formed to act as a research organization and clearing house for information about the creature. In the beginning it only conducted research for a few week in the year, but by 1964 they established a more permanent presence around the Loch. Eventually the Bureau established camera stations with both still and cinema cameras with telephoto lenses. They had vans which served as mobile camera stations, and underwater listening devises. Searches were conducted using hot-air-balloons and infrared night time cameras, sonar scanners and submarines.
A great deal of information was discovered about the Loch, but they have yet to produce any concrete evidence of a monster

It would be pretty cool to see something like this and I wonder if it does really exist.

Actually, i'm going on Vacation too Scotland In June, and we are definitly gonna visit Loch Ness. So i'm gonna bring me a whole bunch of camera's and strategicly place them around the lake (yes, that right, Around it). If you are gonna try, you btter do it good i always say.
I don't believe in it though, there is totally nothing there. Its impossible. but its still fun though, too go to the place everybody is talking about, smelling the air, sensing the atmosphere, get a good feeling no how and why people think there is a monster.

i watched a tv special a while back on PBS i think it was about the Loch Ness monster. It was pretty convincing. I don't doubt that there cuold be some unknown sea creature we don't know about that has been titled the Loch Ness monster. Heck, we don't know much about what lives in the oceans and such at all. Just recently they found a fish that was believed to have been extinct for thousands of years!

Yeah, the fish was the Coulacant(sp?) but that was in open water. Loch Ness has been closed for thousands of years, whatever is in there must have been in there for all that time. That would mean there is not a monster(because it can't live for that long), or else there have too be a lot of them, like a family. Considdering Size and Food supply it might be possible though.

And almost always proved fake, lol.
Been to Loch Ness before, it's about 150 miles from me. I did see a big green monster, which looked something like the picture, but it wasn't in it.

How deep was its deepest point again? about 1,2 KM? i bet you can hide a huge monster down there, for about a week.
most pics you see are intentionally faked but some are accidential; Toys, Logs, Schools of fish. Its still fun too see them though:
I don't know what the last Picture is but i'm sure its not made too look like the real thing though.

Saint Columbus "shunned" the Loch Ness monster with prayers and songs way way back, but it could be a metaphor, like Saint George's dragon- a metaphor for the sinful ways of the celtic pagans who lived there before Columbus came along. He "saved" them from "the monster" by purging their sins, perhaps?
It would be cool to have a monster, but I'd trade it for a Stargate!
There's lots of scary stuff in water. These guys trailed a small handheld net through a stream in the Amazon and came up with seven different species unknown to man, including a small fish that drinks blood. Some people believe that the monster could have been frozen in ice for millions of years and then woken up. Highly unlikely. It could be an anaconda though....

I know they have been seen In indonesia but in Scotland? Nah, i don't think so. Then there have too be a lot of them too, highly unlikely.

Actually, I meant an Alpatosaurus. I was seeing how many people I could catch out. An alpatosaurus is more like a Diplodocus than a Plesiosaur.
And yes, I know my spelling of dinosaur names is attrocious.

The lochness monster is just a prehistoric dinosaur that never died when the Earth was struck by an Asteriod millions of years ago. Just like that Celocant everyone taught was extinct until people caught some in African Rivers.

It would have died within a day, much less 100000 years or whatever it was, ((Know it's a joke but... )).

I'm off to Scotland on Thursday, and am feeling really hopeful that Nessie will show herself to me. I think it's much better and happier to live in a world where Nessie COULD exist, and to which King Arthur WILL return someday to aid Britain in the hour of her greatest need, and where, if you're lucky enough to stumble upon the right wardrobe, you can still find a way into Narnia. So, I'm very optimistic about seeing Nessie.
My bf, however, is appalled that I want to visit the Loch Ness Monster Visitor Center, or whatever it's called, etc. He plans to stand a good distance away from me, I think.

there have been so many reports over the years of this being true,
so far what has been gathered really is the most plasable thing is that a dinisore got stuck in the lake when it was closing, how exactly was sure,
but it and its mate where stuck and they stayed there the whole time from one generartion to the next,
but there has never really been any real proff of its existance and the lake has been scanned by a lot of people with lots of tech eqipment and nothing was found.
but people still say its there.
Now me personaly like the last two posts cas I d like to think of the world in that manor.
myths and legends are good to beleave in
my fav movie is the Lockness monster neci with the wee little barn and her wee little bike.

Maybe it should eat someone, then they'd have to believe it was real. Any volunteers for the sacrifice?
